I played the turn be for EL_OSO - has anyone heard from regoarrarr or BotB?

Has Snaproll officially retired? His last post in this thread was five pages back, and I didn't read anything about him retiring. Perhaps someone should give him the heads up through PM or something.

My plan is to run some turns this afternoon. If I feel in the groove, does anybody mind if I run more than 10?

no - more than 10 is find by me.

I'm still here, I just never notice when I'm up after getting lost in a world of skips (not the waste-removal thingies, or the unpleasant polystyrene-y snacks. That'd be scary).

Okay, I've run my turns. The save is here: http://gotm.civfanatics.net/saves/civ4sgotm2/The_Real_Ms_Beyond_SG002_AD1619_01.Civ4SavedGame

It wasn't too bad of a turnset. I'll see if I can get back to a more normal SG report technique, though it will be tonight before I can add pictures.

Turn 0:
Lots of whipping: Bank in Kyoto, Observatory in Edo, Bank in Madrid, Library in Numidian, Market in Kagoshima, Market in Nara, Forge in Nagoya, Theater in Izumo. Most of these whips either removed unhappy people or stopped citizens from working unimproved tiles, including resourceless water tiles. I didn't whip in Osaka because it's such an awesome city that it needs to grow to use more tiles.

Turn 1 (1580):

Nagasaki (on south coast) pops copper in a mine. A couple more production doesn't hurt. I move our spearman *out* of Huayna's Vilcabamba on our continent (all troops, including ours, lower the likelihood of revolt there!

Turn 2 (1583):
Discover Education and start liberalism. Everyone already has education, but I queue up several universities (and libraries in cities that need them first).

Also, I continued unassigning many specialists. Our tiles are often so bad that the AI assigns specialists instead of working bad tiles. That's often okay, but here, I think we need the food so we can whip out infrastructure. Also, great people are getting quite expensive.

Also, I move our workers toward cities that need them. We need to chop forests and get more cottages in play.

Note: I think we popped a great artist (groan) in Madrid on our second turn or so. I sent him to one of our western cities to wait until we start invading. He's probably best used as a culture bomb.

Turn 3 (1586):
Nothing much.

Turn 4 (1589):
Huayna adopts emancipation! Ouch. The unhappiness penalties are starting to come in.

There is a Japanese revolt in Mansa's city on our continent. Sweet. It has food, so I intend to keep it when it really revolts.

Turn 5 (1592):
I poprush a few universities as (I deem) appropriate.

Turn 6 (1595):
Nothing to report

Turn 7 (1598):
Hatshepsut adopts Free Market. I think we want that too!

Turn 8 (1601):
Hatshepsut demands one of our two whales from us. I say okay. We should probably cancel that soon. (I forgot to see if we can do it now.) We go from cautious to pleased in her eyes.

Turn 9 (1604):
Liberalism comes in. I am disappointed to see that I can't trade it for anything straight up (except Divine Right + gold + world map, which I don't think is very good). I go to all-cash to see if I can get a tech if I sweeten the pot with a little gold.

Turn 10 (1607):
Mao switches to representation and emancipation. More unhappies in our bigger cities.... All the more reason to whip our infrastructure!

I trade Liberalism+150gold to Hat for Economics (and Free Market). I could have gotten the same deal from Kublai, but he's Hatty's worst enemy. Trying to be nice here....

I pull the three way civic switch to free religion, free market and free speech. I'm not totally sure we want free speech, but it cost no more turns of anarchy and I figure the culture in our battle for real estate on our continent won't hurt.

Turn 11 (1610):
Biz demands Liberalism from us. I say yes. Hey, he's still holding his own against Mansa, so why not stay buddies with him?

And look! He even took a city from Mansa that turn!

Turn 12 (1613):
HC demands 220 gold from us. I say NO. I think we're gonna have to fight him. Why help him get ready for that.

Mansa'a city of Tadmekka revolts to us! I keep it and send a swarm of workers over to improve it.

Turn 13 (1616):
Out of anarchy. I'll have to check how much of an improvement that is for our economy. I think it'll be decent.
Before the civics switch:

...And after the civics switch:

You be the judge!

Turn 14 (1619):
Hmmm.

My exploring frigates reveal Huayna's buildup off our east coast. He's coming for us because he's annoyed or cautious with us and no less than pleased with everybody else

That's where I left it.

I think we need lots of frigates over on the southeast to prepare to repel Huayna's assault. I think it's just a matter of time, and he will come. Right now, it looks like he's got 2 frigates and 2 galleons that he's loading up. We'll want at least 3 frigates to take out his frigates, plus one frigate for each galleon and maybe a spare.

Also, I'll add it in later when I add screenshots, but Biz took Shangian--one of Mansa's cities! So, they're one and one with each other. I think the war is turning out to be a good idea!

I didn't build too much military because I think we still need infrastructure desperately. Soon, though, it will be time. I'm really hoping we can sink HC's fleet before it leaves port. We'll want frigates watching for that. And we'll want to sink him away from the bonus-giving coast.

I have no idea who's up next. I consider this my turn listed as "skip" a few posts ago. So, I think it's regoarrarr's turn if he wants it, then Beef's. If we don't hear from regoarrarr on by end of Thu, I'd say Beef takes it. Then Kodii, me (if that doesn't upset anyone), then ruff, then El Oso.

Of course, I'd be okay with "hey I got it, I'm gonna run with it a while" from anyone at this point. I'd like to wrap it up by the end of the month.

(Save link posted at top of this post.)

I updated my turnset post above with some pictures. That sure makes for a more interesting read, I think. Also, I don't think regoarrarr is going to take the next turnset if this thread is any indication. Beef, do you want to take it next?

I'll not be able to play until Sunday probably - if anyone wants to grab it, be my guesy.

Then... I guess I'm up already?

I'll see if I can do something. (Then again, regoarrarr's trip is over by now)

Take it Kodii. If regoarrarr did it, he's gonna take some time to recover.

I think I may have some ships on auto-move to get them over to the east coast. Some (frigate+galleon?) will be coming along our continent via Madrid. And I'd sent a couple frigates over to keep an eye on the Biz vs. Mansa proceedings. They're headed along the south of the AI continent.

Also, if we accumulate enough cash (we may already have enough), we might be able to trade liberalism+cash to Kublai for something useful like Constitution. Of course, he might already be researching it himself, thus making it less valuable.

I've got research set to 0% for Steel. That's more for our foul purposes (=training cannons), though it may or may not be something we'd be willing to trade to the AI. [We should discuss this! I say go for Steel and we can soon start taking other techs by force. Feel free to build barracks in cities too: they're cheap for us as Aggressives.]

Note that Mao (Annoyed with us) and Huayna (WFYABTA and not happy with us) are no longer potential trading partners.

Sorry for the delay. I'll play now, then Beef can take it right after that, considering that its Sunday and assuming he can play today.

EDIT:

Kublai already has Liberalism, so I can't do anything there. We do not have a single tech that we can trade to anybody. We are going to have to start taking techs by force as soon as possible.

Bismarck makes a bunch of civic changes and asks us to join the war against Mansa. I refuse because we are in no shape for a war. Nearing the end of my turnset, we have a large number of frigates out/inside Inca territory, in case of an attack. On the Mansa/Bismarck front, they have made peace. Mao asks us to cancel deals with Hatty, and I refuse again. I decide to extend my turnset a bit longer. Steel comes in and I trade it to Kublai for Constitution, his world map and gold. We can switch to Representation, but I decide not to in my turnset. And now, something has royally screwed up with my computer, so I going to need to fix it.

Ok. I go back and see that Huayna has moved out his ships. He will declare war, but if I don't declare on him now, I'll most definately be in deep water. I declare war on Huayna and successfully sink his ships and losing one frigate. Using a single Grenadier, I am able to take Vilcabamba in two turns. I stop in 1655 AD, with us back as #1 in score.

Only time for a quick comment right now: YES! Way to go sinking Huayna's invasion force! As soon as I saw that, I knew he was gunning for us.

And a quick thought on civics: Representation is probably good, though maybe hereditary rule would work while we're conquering the world. I don't think we're running very many specialists or having many happiness problems in our big cities right now, so I think we could postpone the switch.

What about Nationalism? I haven't played the draft-n-conquer game before, is it useful in our situation?

We probably can't grab any of Huayna's mainland cities quite yet, so I'd look for a good tech grab for peace if possible. Soon, however....

I actually don't think attacking Huayna's mainland will be too difficult. In fact, we can probably progress slowly, as we can probably sink anything he sends towards us. I have two frigates healing, and two fully healed around that peninsula, awaiting more ships. After taking Vilcabamba that was defended by two riflemen with a single grenadier over two turns, I finally realized the strength of the +50% against riflemen. At the moment, the closest Incan city to us is defended by three riflemen. A bunch of grenadiers and cannons could easily take it. I was gonna suggest that we bring cavalry in equal numbers along, but I realized this isn't Epic Nine

REVIVAL OF THE SUMMARY POST:

regoarrarr [recently crossed 88 counties in less than 24 hours] - On Deck?
BeefontheBone - UP
Kodii - Just Played
Compromise - On Deck?
Ruff_Hi [anxiously waiting]
EL_OSO [anxiously waiting]
Snaproll [?]
Zalson [retired]

Diplomacy:
We're at war with Huayna. We don't have to power to attack his mainland, but we have the power to sink whatever he sends towards us. Bismarck is at peace with Mansa again. When making a trade with Kublai, I notice that he is willing to declare war on Bismarck or Mao for a price. Perhaps we may want to stir things up over there.

Technology:
I have Replaceable Parts queued up, but I really don't know what direction we want to go in. Anyone have any suggestions?

Settling:
We're done settling! Theres only one lone German city on our continent, but it will be ours before long.

Builds:
A lot of our cities are building universities, etc. I think we want to switch to barracks, units and ships.

Religion:
N/A for now. I think all our cities are Christian already. Perhaps our two newly acquired cities (Vilcabamba and the Malinese city) need religion.

Great People:
I don't think this is too important right now. Madrid is running some specialists, if I'm not mistaken.

Civics:
Hereditary Rule vs. Representation. What do you guys think? Do we need to switch to military civics such as Nationhood?

Nice summary post; good to see its return.

Very cool if you think we can start taking Incan cities! Cannons and grenadiers rock against riflemen.

As for research, I'm inclined to take RP from Huayna as part of a peace deal. Maybe we could set to 0% research while we kick some butt.

Also, did any more of Mansa's or Bismark's cities change hands?

I don't think so. I noticed that Mansa owned a city called "Essen", so I assume that it was taken at some point...

Will Beef play the next turnset? Did our captain succeed in getting to all 88 Ohio counties in 24 hours? Can we bribe Kublai into war? Will we be able to finish this by the end of the month? Is everyone busy reading Epic 9 reports?

These questions and more...film at 11.

With just under 17 days left for us to finish the game, I'm starting to lean in favor of the "whoever can play NOW, can play". What do you guys think?

Compromise said:
Take it Kodii. If regoarrarr did it, he's gonna take some time to recover.

What is this IF I did it?!?!? :)

Of course I did it. You can follow along at http://everywhatever.blogspot.com for the full recap. The short answer is that it took 23 hours, 34 minutes and 34 seconds.

As for this game, I think, unfortunately, that I'm going to have to put myself on auto-skip. I look forward to continuing to hear about the success of our team - with the deadline apparently coming up, I think I'm for whoever can play, just play.

SGOTM 3 Signups are open. Initially, I'm interesting in playing. I haven't read through the scenario yet though. The link is here:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=192760

EDIT: Crossposted with Capt'n. Whoever can get to it first, Beef, or Compromise can go next.

EDIT2: I've quickly skimmed SGOTM3. Its a crowded standard archipelago with SEVENTEEN AIs. The AIs are aggressive and the goal is to win by Diplomatic or Space. Its Monarch, and Peter of Russia. I need to look again, but we may HAVE to use the HoF Mod. If anyone is interested, we can begin signups under "Real Ms. Beyond".

EDIT3  : I personally think its pointless to discuss whether to play SGOTM 3 or not in here, especially since we need to get moving in gameplay. SGOTM 3 discussion will only confuse things. I made a thread in the RB forums here.
