SGOTM 02 - The Real Ms. Beyond

If no one else grabs it, I'll play tomorrow. Otherwise, I'll play Wednesday.

Edit: And nice driving regoarrarr! I'm looking forward to reading the blog in depth soon.

I need to withdraw from this game. I apologize profusely for my lack of participation (although I understand that it is inexcuseable). My personal life prevents me from continuing this (or any other) SG. I wish you all the best of luck and I hope to see you around.

Hey Snaproll. Don't worry, real life happens to the best of us. :) Hope RL gives you some chance to unwind somehow, even if it isn't CIV. Thanks for being with us while you could be.

I'm going to play this one tomorrow morning since my batch job hasn't finished running yet on my Civ computer. If anyone wants to run some turns before that, just post and go.

Like I said in the RB24s thread, life issues always come before other things. Wish you all the best, and keep in mind that you will still be a member of the Real Ms. Beyond come the day we win the laurel... (hopefully)

EDIT- It looks like we have about sixteen days to kill six civs. Thats approximately 2.7 days per civ. I think on the strategy front, we may consider a simple wipe through of the AI continent, and only keeping strategic cities.

So, this will be a quick post of the turnset.

I decided to switch the research from Replaceable Parts to Democracy since we're starting to develop Emacipation unhappiness of 4 or 5 in our big cities. The time of the whip is coming to an end.

I think we're pretty much aiming for Grenadiers and Cannons and planning to take out Huayna. I plan to move most of our new forces to a gathering point on the southeast part of the big island.

I've been bombarding one of Huayna's cities, the on on his extreme southwest corner. I suspect it'll be our first target. I made some notes about which cities of his to keep and which to raze.

Then, something rather bad happened: Mansa cancelled open borders with us. This could mean he's planning to attack us. The only civs he doesn't like are Biz and us.

So that's where I left it: we could switch to Democracy if we want to, but I haven't done it yet. I figure we might be able to whip just a couple more buildings in some of our smaller cities, and then that's it, no more whipping.

The Mansa situation is troubling. We don't have that many frigates such that we could take out an invasion force. I've queued a few up on the big island, though we may want to whip some in our capital's archipelago before too long. Mansa hates Biz more than us, but that doesn't make us safe.

This is going to be a slog. I think we should probably be razing most of the cities and looting as much as possible. We might want a couple mounted troops to assist with the pillaging.

Note that Mao built Versailles somewhere.

At the start of my turn, Biz was willing to declare war on Huayna for Steel, but he'd have to go through Mansa's lands to do so, and I'm sure Mansa ain't letting him in, so I figured it wasn't worth it.

The save is here.

As for who's up, our roster says it's Ruff then Oso. But since we're halfway through the month of November, I'd say if you can take it and run some turns, please do so!

I'm playing tonight - planning to play more than 10 to get it rolling.

Nice (about running more than 10 turns)!

I've been thinking a bit. With war imminent, we probably want to have as many means of production as possible, so we might want to stay in Slavery instead of switching to Emancipation just yet. Universal Suffrage might be useful, but I'm not sure.

Good luck, ruff. Expect an attack from Mansa. (Either on us or Biz; I don't know how to tell who it will be or that can be predicted in advance.) Maybe whip a few defensive troops on our capital archipelago.

The fate of the conquest passes to you!

Summary
  • Traded wheat and stone for 3gpt, dye and silk to bismark - more happiness for us
  • Whipped a three cities - two units and a building (of some type)
  • changed some workers to build farm in south - there is a city with zero production, no food resources, zippo - put in some farms so that it can grow and work its cottages
  • chopped some outside city radii forests into frigates, galleons
  • upgraded a galley to a galleon
  • upgraded some other units - left a CRII Samurai with 8XPs not upgraded - used him to kill off a rifleman - hopefully, we can promote him to CRIII and then upgrade
  • swapped to nationhood and put in a round of draft in almost every city - all musketmen but you cannot make a war without some breaking of eggs (you know what I mean)
  • ferried two conveys of units across the the seas (18 units total)
  • teched replacement parts (no trade bait) and rifling
  • capac offered a peace treaty plus 350 gold - nope
  • bella asked me to stop trading with mongols - nope
  • and finally ...

note the medic spear (don't kill him),
the artist (border pop when out of anarchy
and the samurai (who might have a promotion waiting for him)

The Save

Some short comments: And so it has begun. Very cool indeed. Nice work with the drafting too. Also, I think you can use the artist as soon as you control the city and it instantly stops the revolution (so you don't have to wait 6 turns or whatever).

Who wants to take it for a while from here: Oso? Beef? I can probably play again on Monday, and I bet Kodii will want to run some turns before I do.

I'm back. I'll take the save if I don't hear from OSO or Beef within 24 hours.

As for SGOTM 3, are any of you showing any interest? I already heard from Beef and Ruff in this thread, but I'm hoping I can hear from Compromise, regoarrarr, OSO, Zalson and Snaproll. I already assume that Zalson and Snaproll (and perhaps regoarrarr) would not like to continue to SGOTM 3, but you'll never know. :)

Just take it whenever you can then. I might not be able to get to it until later today, so if you can sneak in a turnset (or two), go ahead.

Just checking in. Looks like Kodii will play the next turnset, then I'll play. Does that sound about right?

First of all, a happy Thanksgiving to you Americans on the team. Though our Thanksgiving was a month ago, I'll celebrate this Thanksgiving too (with a birthday cake and presents :) )

So I load up the save and things instantly get ugly. Mansa declares war on us. I will continue to play, but if any of you see this, feel free to add your comments on what we should do. I'm hoping we can protect our capital islands.

EDIT: Mansa has a bunch of transports and destroyers with artillery and cavalry. I didn't realize how far ahead he was in tech. I'm starting to think that the situation looks grim for us, especially considering we have 10 days to complete this. I say, fight to the very bitter end!

In an attempt to save cattle island, I upgrade troops there, but sure enough, Mansa lands. On the brighter side, I raze Huamanga, but huge forces of Malinese and Incan troops are on the march.

Mansa has razed the city we just captured, even though it was defended with many troops. Edo has also been captured. I begin to draft riflemen in a desperate struggle.

I am actually quite perplexed. I haven't seen large stacks such as ours disappear so quickly on Monarch before. I'm half way through my turnset, and since our offensive has been completely destroyed, I have switched to defensive mode.

Furthermore, I have made peace with Huayna. He would only give us a World Map.

I was afraid of that. Oh well, do your best. I think we're pretty much out of the running for any decent awards, so I suggest playing honorably and ... and ... oh h#ll, I don't know.

Good luck - at least we can now draft riflemen and not silly musket guys.
