SGOTM 03 - Geezers

Dagnabit's last visit to the forums was on 31st January. A little strange not to hear anything from him. Hope everything is ok with him.

Maybe we should ask to add 2 unallocated players at max, so if he still signs up we can add him to our team. 7 is still ok I think.

In fact that was when he posted his last turn. :hmm: Unfortunately PM'ing will probably only work if he logs in.

Probably not a bad idea, although if he doesn't sign up soon I'm not sure if he can be added subsequently anyway. :( Will you be continuing as captain for the next SG? I certainly don't have a problem if you do.

I have no problem with mark staying el capitan either.

on an aside, Short Straw has sent me a pm asking about merging with us for SGOTM4.

Would we prefer random allocations or merging with someone?

on dagnabit: I tried sending him an email through his profile, but he apparently blocked that ability when he signed up.

Hopefully he just lost his internet access and we'll hear from him in awhile.

Jenarie messaged me back accepting our invite, and has requested to be a Geezer in SGOTM4 officially, so that gives us 5 members. As I said in my mass pm, I would be against merging with a 3 player team then as it'd give us 8 full players, which may be too many to guarantee consistant playing for everyone(I don't know for sure, both games I've played had 6 members and i felt the pace was pretty good), plus it'd knock out the spot we are thinking of keeping open for Dagnabit.

I wouldn't mind being the captain for the next one.

I also think 8 are too much, but there are no 2 player teams to merge with. Just unallocated players. However this wouldn't be a problem for me.

We could merge with short straw forming an 8 players team, but then we would have to be very strict with 24h "got it" and 48h playing. Wouldn't be an option I'd like very much though.

My preferred option would be to take one more unallocated player.

Team One have asked Short Straw if they would like to merge with them, and it's being favourably received, so it looks as though we'll all be happy. :D

Hey all,

I've got to say, this upcoming SG looks fascinating, I'd like to participate in some fashion. My only issue... I've changed jobs and I've been finding little time for Civ. When I do play, I am mostly focusing on defending my #1 position in Quattromasters.

Long way of saying...

I'm looking for a dedicated lurker gig. My first choice would be my old mates. You willing to accept an old-original-Geezer as a lurker? ;)

PS... I'm going to register in the sign-up so I don't miss the deadline. Let me know if you are ok with a lurker...

well, I wasn't a geezer until after you left, but I've certainly got no problem with the top quattromaster helping us out.

Nice to have you on board The-Hawk. :goodjob:

Welcome back, mate ! Of course you are welcome. Even if you feel you need to step up from the lurker role to playing one or the other set nobody from us will object I think. However any advice or opinion given by you will be most welcome.

hm...Simon, if you are still monitoring this thread...you're pm box is full, I can't reply to your message until you delete stuff. lol and ironically I can't pm you telling you to do so.

Ah, thanks for telling me. That's quite funny actually. I'll go and delete my messages. Should be OK in few minutes.

btw don't forget there was that pending request from Cactus Pete to join Geezers. May be worth someone contacting him if you're still looking for the 6th player.

Welcome back The-Hawk. Looking forward for your input. I guess we only need one more player now.

BTW. I am a little relieved that we did not merge with Short Straw. Not because I did not want to have those guys on the team. Just could not stand becoming "Old Short Straw Geezers" or "Short Straw old Geezers" or the most dreaded "Short Geezers". That is hitting close to home. :p

OK I am loosing it.:crazyeye: So I will get more sleep.:D

I checked on him, he's apparently hooked up with XTeam instead. I don't blame him, I completely forgot he had posted anything here. Not sure if Sam or mark thought much more about it than I did either.

We are now a team of six. :hmm: Harbourboy has been added to the team by Alan. :D

Hopefully he'll say hello before he wanders off for a while. ;)

That's me. Hi guys. I've never done a SGOTM before so you'll have to be a bit patient with me. Sounds fascinating though. Looking forward to it.

First thing is - what special mods do I have to install?

the only mod required is the HOF mod. There'll be a link in the first post of our SGOTM4 thread so no need to go searching for a download.

I'll try to find and c/p a synopsis of what the mod provides in awhile.

there's a fairly good post about the HOF mod(if I do say so myself;)), and here's the relevant info pulled from it:

That answer actually leads into an answer on what the HOF mod is.

It is a modpack that contains numerous user-made mods that do a variety of things:
It increases security on the GOTM saves, allowing the GOTM staff to be assured that it is a level competition
It provides an easier to access autolog, allowing you to write down your thoughts on the game as it goes, and providing a detailed account of the various messages Civ4 shows you each turn
It contains bug fixes that have not been addressed by Firaxis thus far(GP bugs, slavery bug, etc.)
It also contains a much better foreign advisor and domestic advisor than what ships with the game. They give you no information you couldn't get already, but it is collected, organized, and shown to you in your advisor screens in a way that is much easier to read, understand, and use. Eg. The domestic advisor will tell you what buildings have been built in what city, allowing you to better steer your empire's infrastructure without micromanaging every city. The foreign advisor has an upgrade in just about every screen, the resources, tech, relations, and even adds a current deals and current civics screen for you to check up on every possible aspect of your diplomatic game.

Basically, it makes it much easier to use all the information Civ4 gives us, saving time for those that already use that information, and giving the others access to it. It also gives better security, allowing you the knowledge that the games you are comparing yourself to were played on the same playing field as you had.
