SGOTM 03 - Team VQ

Pre-turn I MM just about everything! Meaning every city... I start some banks/markets/Grocers AND change just about every specialist to MERCHANTs. Why? Cause settled Merchants bring FOOD and I dont care about the hammer or 2 with such a huge empire where we can outproduce all the AI combined!

Well Cyrus got himself a new home :) In contrast to the show tho, his got smaller instead of bigger...

Cyrus send over some Transports to meet up with our major naval stack. Asside from the Battleships and Destroyers here also are our Carriers.... 3 transports sunk offcourse, unfortunatly with Warlords (Patch 08?) we know not what units were there. One thing is sure tho, they dont swim to well. Offcourse this does rack up some WW points :( but it had to be done...

1842, Second round, first Island done...

Cyrus now offcourse starts to try and vote Toku into office... but we still have a clear margin there... Note Cyrus at 115 votes... this should be lower allready when the Diplo vote comes around :)

OK some cities come out off revolt and I get a scare, 50.5%! ! ! I quickly jump the gun and gift some cities to Mansa :( reducing the % to 50...

If we ever get a scare again, our *AHEM* friend Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan is willing to take some cities of our hands....
I strongly suggest we gift Khaaaaaaaaaaan some of those land hogging TUNDRA cities and exchange them for some nice GRASSLAND cities previously owned by Hathy???

Cyrus family, this is your NEW HOME! *** Offcourse it needs a lick of paint here and there ***

Cyrus' main island has only recently been cleared so it will take a few turns to really start working... but ... the start has been made ....
Unfortunatly roads and rails can only be cleared by land units... I dont feel much like taking the WW hit for losing units and Units on Foreign soil just to do that. Also Cyrus has all off 2 or 3 workers, so it is going to take him a while to rebuild anyway... Should we take and disband his worker(s)? just to make it more painfull??:satan:

As long as we keep Cyrus burnt to the ground, let him keep his workers and roads. Heck If the ground is fully salted, we can take peace (only if it is free or benefits us) and then 10 turns later come back and nuke the few improvements that made it in - thus reducing our WW for some turns. I assume you still have some more work to do on the lands of Cyrus - I see farms and towns!

I would definitly agree to gifting some of the larger tundra rich but resource pour cities to Khaan. Perhaps have our defending units go out and pillage our own improvements before handing them over? (if that's possible) Tho, if that makes Khaan less likely to take the city, then the drop in domination is worth the loss of votes.

Gifting Tundra

Destroying last farms & Towns (towns optional)

Preparing to move to next target... Gandhi has the most votes => Most Pop... but is easy to reach for Victoria... If she captures just 1 city, we hit domination...
Next up Hathy !

The save is uploaded to the GOTM system. I played a little more to 1850

I handed over control of the following cities

and we ended up at a save 47.8%

I found some places we allready own, but are surving no POP.... I am pretty sure there are more places but I couldnt find them (aka probably didnt search hard enough)

They give us no extra points on domination, but do give us some extra votes... both cities should be able to (once farmed) grow to a healthy 10 pop city. But (nearly) any city that doesnt add land to us but allows for a few Pop should be planted....

Cyrus' votes decreased 15, I declared war on Hathy and started bombing. Offcourse she in her turn is attacking us ... so Bob has some fighting to do. We also need some more boats down by Cyrus to effectively blockade all the seafood.
We should by ourselves (I neglected to do so) a huge navy to blockade all the sea where needed. Hathy has quite some sea too....

I bought Iron works in Yaroslavl and Planted an extra instructor there. Now we are building 10xp battleships...
Planes are terribly inefficient at destroying improvements. I think I only got 50% success... So we need a lot of them (+carriers) to reach those "far off" farms.

I left some 10K in our bank, we can buy everything everywhere. Maybe we should start making deposits at the bank of Gandhi and Isa? Does gifting money still earn you points with the AI?

Just a heads up, I won't be able to play until Friday at the earliest (tomorrow is my b-day and I suspect my wife has something planned). So if the next player after me wants to jump in for the fun, go right ahead.

I'll still be posting from work, but the playing time will take a short break.

We got the hollywood ...

But I totally forgot to share the movies with vicky and monty :hammer2: ... next player please do so.

I decided that one more tile will not push us to domination ...

Hatty made quite several attempt to re-take it, but we prevailed.

The voting results:

1852: - 93 votes short

1856: - 65 votes short

UNSec at 1860:

We increased by 12 votes, Vicky and monty by 1 each, while the total number of votes decreased by 1. We are getting closer.

To speed things up, I suggest next player to quickly take 2 or more cities from Hatty:

In the other news, we got a great engineer. I totally don't know what to do with him, so maybe build the SE for denial purpose?

Toku and Mansa signed peace. Come to think of it, we can consider declaring on toku and take that size 27 city. It makes no difference now who is the opposition.

I settles 2 new city. One more settler has no where to settle.

Cosmic is UP, or if bobrath feels up to it, >>> take it <<<<.

I dont know if taking the 27 pop city will do us much good.

You did give me an idea fox... We can take 1 tile cities on the coast hemmed in by culture on the land while still beeing able to work some coastal tiles (most of the time) At the very least we will gain a few votes and we can make sure the city is starved to 1 if we feel the need to return the city (most AI take back their own city :) )

Sorry guys had some trouble with the internet the last few days. We had some freezing rain and it caused some disruption. I can't play until Monday due to RL so if Bob wants to take it please do. If the game isn't finished I will definitely play Monday.

If you look at the UNSec votes, we are down to 51 votes short. If we take a size 27 city, (assuming 1 pop = 1 vote), we would be halfway there.

Another thing we could do is capture a city, and pull away all defenders, and let the AI take it back. This series of capture would reduce the city pop by 2 (each time a city is captured, one pop is lost).

But I think we should just capture as many cities as possible. The next 3 votes are all diplo votes, so we should made use of revolting cities to bring us over the diplo victory while not triggering domin victory.

I dont know that cities in revolt are going to add to our votes, but if they do... Sure go ahead... If they dont... well... Starving them "my way" would be faster and more efficient in the terms of WW and hammer cost.
On the other hand even if the cities in revolt dont count on our side, they will not count on "their" side either. Any city we capture will be in revolt > 10 turns I think.

I think we need to get spies out to i.e. Gandhi and really do a number on his farms. He has a good number of votes which he is withholding, taking those away will help and we have the money for large scale sabotage.

Note that Cyrus went from 115 in turn 454 to 55 in turn 470 and I think he is still dropping.
Hathy 102 in turn 458 to 51 in turn 470.

Does anyone know when the population is counted to decide how many votes you have? Is it on the turn that the vote is taken, on the turn in between, or the turn when results are posted?

Good news......

I wasn't feeling well and booked off so having nothing to do I decided to play. Well the game is finished at 1872 with a diplomatic vote. Finally, what a pain in the ass game. My computer could barely handle it and I will won't play 18 civs again. Don't feel like buying a new machine just to keep up with a game.

I won't post and upload until much later today since I've been up all night and the speed at which this game plays makes for very, very long turns.

The neverending game has finally ended. As to Gandhi I still don't understand why at friendly he doesn't vote for us????? Play 11 turns and on the last UN vote managed to knock off 20 votes off Gandhi.

Taking Hatty's cities was a waste of time as they were too small at that point and pushing us 0.5 percent from domination. I even had to gift two cities away to avoid domination. Never have I had to give away the Pentagon much to my chagrin.

So at least we can start the next game now without thinking about this pain in the arse.
