SGOTM 04 - Team VQ

Cosmic, you're getting very grumpy and sarcastic these days. Have some nice chocolate...

Sorry Scowler just not an overly patient man. When you hit 49 years things don't stick in your brain like they used to and time is of the essence.

Going thru a move too which doesn't improve my humour much.

But I just had some chocolate so all is well.......:goodjob:

Go ahead play Scowler I have no problem in waiting. It's something I do so well. :crazyeye:

Played the remaining 4 turns, which took us nicely to the end of RP. I selected Rifling as the next tech, but that is of course veto-able with no turns put into it yet.

Really, nothing else happened, hence the minimal report and no screenshots.

I made peace with Hannibal as arranged. I didn't revolt to Theo as there was still some infrastructure to benefit from Org Rel, but I did some whipping in a couple of places to hurry things up.

Otherwise ... Washington asked for help against Mehmed but I of course turned him down.

And that's it.

Cosmic, watch out for Gandhi's caravels approaching our nets in the south. I've already killed a couple of his caravels already but he seems to have an endless supply. There is a frigate healing in the city there: I've forgotten the name but left a sign so you can see where it is. There are also a couple of galleons within range at Ning if worst comes to worst.

I added in the drydocks that namliaM recommended, and more shipping is on the way.

Wake up! It's time to play! ;)

I'd say yes we do agree to jump on Washington. Its mainly a phony war, but it keeps Mehmed happy with us and that's a good thing once we lower the hammer on Brennus and need the open borders (or even assistance) from Mehmed.

Besides, iirc GW is hated by most of the world so why not?

Different topic, I'm really enjoying seeing Ghandi's caravels continuing to gift experience to our frigates.... but I wonder what this is doing to his WW and his economy. Unlimited caravels mean he's not spending hammers on infrastructure right? I don't want to let him camp our shores again, but is there a balance out there?

This is "got it" and will likely play tomorrow sometime.

Continuing my above thought - if we moved the sinking of Ghandi's ships into his cultural borders, then that would not incur WW for him correct? So if we can set up a pseudo barricade within his cultural borders that doesn't affect his cities (since we don't want to limit his commerce and growth) - then that might help us both out... Would need to use a few more ships so that the injured ones could retreat to our waters to heal faster (or have a medic ship hanging around).

Good idea Bob. After looking at the save I have to say Gandhi is not doing very well. He's also got some serious enemies too. I have a strange feeling that Brennus (I think or Mehmed maybe both) may attack him some day. I know that is speculation but nonetheless a possilibility. It would appear that he's only building caravels no soldiers and not even attacking anymore. Even if we leave cities for him I wonder if he'll take them.

Turn 1

Hold off one turn before revolting since there aren't any units due yet.

Turn 2

Revolt to theocracy for 2 turns of anarchy

Turn 3

Troop deployment to the rally point.
Catch Brennus with a galleon heading for our shores and decide to use the settler just to prevent that. Not a good spot but don’t need him on our landmass being an enemy of Gandhi.

Civ4ScreenShot0545-1.jpg

Turn 4

Troop deployment and getting frigates/galleons to rally point.

Turn 5

Whip drydock at New Sarai for 2 pop
Whip theater at Sicca for 2 pop

Turn 6

Bjorgvin starts a frigate
New Sarai starts a galleon
Nidaros keeps building Berserkers until rifling is finished.

Turn 7

Uppsala finishes grocer starts a cannon

Turn 8

Uneventful but we are getting a huge stack to smash Hannibal.

Turn 9

Brennus makes this offer. Decline but it concerns me. Why? Hannibal does have steampower but as far as I can tell has no coal. He is on good term with Brennus and may well get it from him. So we may have to watch the shores when we attack.

Civ4ScreenShot0546-1.jpg

We discover rifling and that’s the end of Berserkers but we have more than enough soldiers to take on Hannibal.

Turn 10

Our tactical situation:

Civ4ScreenShot0549.jpg

mmmm I thinks it’s enough and more on the way. We are low on ships but two galleons and a couple of frigates are on the way.

Oh we have this settler on our land just sitting there. There is room to settle but I don’t think he’ll go for the desert and the spot marked that is a legal settling spot.

SO we are ready to declare on Hannibal. :goodjob:
And I will do so

Nice set Cosmic, tho why did we research Riffling?? I would have put that of to preserve us building Berserkers atleast for a while yet.
I guess that is what happens when not paying attention
Scowlers remaining set said:
I selected Rifling as the next tech, but that is of course veto-able with no turns put into it yet.
Going for Steampower would have been much better.

So Sirrian doctrin (right?) get frigates,
1) bomb the hell out of defenses
2) take down the defender(s) but leave 1
3) Leave the city, move to next, rinse and repeat... depleating AI Units, while keeping ours hopefully
4) repeat 1-3 for a couple of cities
5) Walk all over the AI...

Right??

Brennus is getting to be as much a pain as Hannibal... While on the subject of hannibal, do we (eventually) keep is cities? Or raze everything?

Oh God you're a hard one to please. We have a ton of berserkers just how many raiders do you need. You have 8 berserkers and 8 grens and more on the mainland and another on a galleon heading to Ning.

I did pay attention namliaM and felt it was time to move to the next phase of attacker. (infantry) If you had a problem with that choice then why didn't say anything sooner????(Grens with combat/pinch combo can be just as effective as raiders.)(and I am also aware of the amphibious promotion being lost but don't you think some 14-16 raiders with amphibious is enough???)

While on the subject of hannibal, do we (eventually) keep is cities? Or raze everything?

Hasn't this been discussed. Gandhi is weak as a kitten and needs to be strengthened. We should take all of the cities as discussed and relocate. It isn't the best land but with that army we should be able to move onto GW's land afterwards. I think once we start taking cities we leave our northern cities and let Gandhi have them. Hasn't that been a plan now for a while now?

Leave the city, move to next, rinse and repeat... depleating AI Units, while keeping ours hopefully

Better to loose a cannon amphibiously then a CR3 gren so if you use cannon when faced with CD2/CD3 it won't cost us those precious units. We shouldn't loose any units this way and preserve our fantastic army. (In SP mode on Prince I have kept a smaller raider army in tact without having the ability to get maces anymore and when winning I still had them all. Just don't take unnecessary risks and our army will stay good.) Deplete those cities enough and then land and he's toast.

Again the true Sirian Doctrine is with aircraft but we aren't that far yet. As to our techs we lack democracy (getting eman unhappy) and nationalism/liberalism etc. Once we forego Nidaros we will then become confucianist and hopefully not get hit too hard. I am not sure if he has the shrine or not.

Have fun I thought I set you up nice but "whatever".

I think SIrian doctrine is abt amphibious attack ... which is what I think namlliaM is pointing out abt berserkers (free amphibious promotion).

But I agree its time to move one ... we aren't doing that great economically to be able to massively upgrade berserkers and yet stay technologically on par with our target.

Oh God you're a hard one to please.
 not a matter of pleasing me

It is just that I think we dont need rifling untill when we need it. :crazyeye: And maybe we dont need any more amphib units, but it is nice to have the option I think. And as to why I didnt say anything... I guess I missed it, or thought nothing of it at the time. But at this time/moment I am thinking *ouch* why did we go and lose our UU?

Fox and you are right tho. We cannot keep upgrading Grens for ever and ever and hope to keep up in tech. so :wavey: Zerkers, hello Hannibal

I am sure you set me up nice Cosmic, but I have not yet even had a look at the save... so I couldnt comment. My remarks/questions are purely of the report.

Yes, yes, and another yes.

We need to clear out space in our new homeland, which means we need a capital site to move our palace to. Our economy will take a hit in the coming decades as we 1) increase our city count and 2) lose the shrine income. Perhaps there's a shrine nearby we can appropriate? :groucho:

@Bobrath

I am hoping Hannibal has a shrine as he has the confucian holy city.

@team

We have not lost amphibious units at all. The promotion is still available at level 3 infantry (combat II opens it up iirc) and is how I continued with amphib battles when in one game I needed more. My thoughts too were we simply don't have the economy to do a lot of upgrading unless we stop science. We can't afford to turn it off and should think about destroyers/infantry real soon. We are missing the prerequisite for corporation. Nationalism->constitution which we will need if we loose Karakorum to Gandhi as well and as far as I am concerned we should give him the entire landmass once we get into Hannibal's lands.

So what's going on here? I would have assumed we'd see at least some playing and reporting by now. Namliam got something for us?

Sorry bob, I had a strange kind of weekend... but finaly played... 9 turns and stopped there. Up to the team to deside how to continue and bob Fox ;) to execute that.

First we find the save uploaded

MM, nothing...

Upon the first turn of the war, I land some Frigates next to drumtumtum (or something or rather) and see this

It makes me cry  and allmost stop right then and there. But I figure we are allready at war and continue on to bombard its defenses.

I cleaned up some of Gandhis Caravels to train our (traveling) Frigates inside his waters... there are 2 frigates healing there right now.
Other intresting things that happened. Well Isabella should go on the Funniest home videos for the trade suggestion she made.
I traded Steam power with GW to catch us up a little.
We pop 2 sources of coal, one of which near Nadiros is allready mined :goodjob:
Hannibal has appearently made a landing on our continent.... But wrong side of the mountians  I started some Riffles (great going Cosmic to get riffling ;) ) just to make sure we beef up our home land defenses a little.

Is is smart to continue the war against Hannibal??? Wowsers Infantry?? Maybe we should move on to GW or some other poor AI (Brennus?) that doesnt have Infantry yet?? I set us down the road of Infantry but we have a ways to go yet, I dont know if we dont start nibbling down Hannibal if we can do it later, he has (Physics=>) Artilery as well :(
If we wait even longer he will get Combustion and Industrialism (tanks) and he will trully be unstoppable.
