SGOTM 05 - Gypsy Kings

Just another point for R1 why build the christian missionary in kaka?
For Athens or mainland city troop building experience. And we need another one.

It makes sense to me that we want to spread religion to our troop cities ... also, increases the shrine gold. So at least one city ought to make the missionaries.

Toku wants 20 gold and 7 gpt for peace IIRC, does the gpt expire in 10 turns?

Is it worth it to get peace in the east to buy time to rebuild in the east while we make a west army?

East only attack vs Two fronts is a key question now.

Why I like Two fronts:

Peace in the east lessens the impact of Qin's ships ... we can rebuild army in east more slowly, ship the troops more carefully.

Our empire is wide ... sending troops from our west cities to the east takes a long time ... and they become obsolete? Might be faster to send west built troops west, and east built troops east.

Downside is the army is split ... so the question is can two separate armies be strong enough to be effective?

It's a good question, I like the idea of as short a time on the water as possible. Less risk of losses like the 2 Keshiks that died on the water during my turnset. IMO, we need to have a city making missionaries, I think they will pay off in experience and Shrine gold in the long run.

I´ve played and uploaded the save...

I was concentrating on building troops sending them east to reinforce there. I made peace with Toku for 10 Gold and Feudalism. I started building the heroic epic but unfortunately we lost access to marble due to cultural border expansion of Toku´s city. Mh, nothing more to say. We should continue building troops and then I would say Alex and Toku are next targets when we have the power.
QSH still don´t want to make peace...

Oh, and we got a Great Artist in Athens. He is still there because I didn´t know what to do with him. We could let him stay were he as until we get another GP to start a golden age or we could use him as specialist.

We could culture bomb the mainland city to get the marble back, or save for the next city we capture to bomb it making ideal spot for Forbidden Palace.

Nice round Lehm.

After looking at the save, I think we need to redeclare on Greece after we get peace with Qin. I think we might have a chance after razing the new chinese city near Sparta. If we culture bomb the greek city north of our mainland city, it should cut off that end of the continent.

I got the save. I'm able to play but I'll wait for some input until Sunday. We might need to sac a cat or 2 to raze the chinese city. With those LB's around this will be the norm, even with maces, I believe.

I'll focus on troop building but also on working cottage tiles. We'll have a hard time with maint costs as we continue to expand. Maybe we will be forced to shut down research soon. We should consider building CH's in new cities that we keep, even before forges/troops.

I think we need another missionary.

I agree that cats must be saced as necessary.

We need a consensus on how to use the Great Artist. I vote for culture bombing a mainland city. Maybe the one we have now, but would prefer one further inland to eat up more land tiles.

I agree to the culture bomb. We don´t get anything useful from lightbulbing. So let´s get another city more east to make the forbidden palace more useful.

I think we should get engineering somehow and right after it we can shut down research.

That would seem the best idea with GA.

There is an automated worker south of kaka I think we need to change it. Apart from that I cant think of anything esle

I played less than 10 turns, as there is a window of opportunity to redeclare on Toku and capture a pair of workers, but I think that should be discussed by the team, as our keshiks could suffer a counter-attack.

Summary of the turnset:
1.we got lucky and razed Qin's city w/o losses.
2.we got unlucky and our only foreign trade route is gone - Cyrus went Mercantilism. Slider is 20% and we're working mainly cottage tiles - and we need still more.
3. we got unlucky again, Qin got circumnavigating bonus. he still won't make peace.

I think CH's are a priority in distant cities, but I didn't change japanese city build as it hasn't been discussed.

Been crazy busy at work until end of Sept. Looking at the save ...

Who do we fight next? Could finish off Alex, and culture bomb his city north of Kagoshima.

We could steal workers from Toku, but how strong is he now? He is the power chart leader, maybe we want to finish Alex now, then concentrate troops for Toku? I am leaning that direction.

Have we decided not to send an army west? Asoka is the weak one that we have not already hit ... maybe we want an army heading that way?

I think we need to decide which cities will be specializing in what ... Market in Mecca is unclear to me, as it has limited commerce if we use its hammers, and we have none of the resources that market adds happiness to.

If we are going to use it for commerce (which might be a good idea), then market makes sense, but then let's whip the market now, (at happy cap anyway), set governor to max food+commerce, and maybe get the cats off the queue in favor of commerce buildings? I think we are still suffering from indecision about these things.

Do we want National Epic in either Karak or Athens? If we are not planning to do a lot of whipping, might Caste System be something to consider? And is Police State the best option with few wars now?

I agree with re-declaring on Alex and culture bombing the northern city, I believe I already suggested that opportunity.

We need to be careful about declaring on Alex with that Axe still near Athens. We only have a Sword there, not enough to defend IMO.

I think we need to be careful with Japan now that they Samauri.

The Market build is strange IMO.

I think we should start going west because it is so much closer.

I could go either way on the National Wonders. Now that we don't have the marble, do we spend those turns on troops for a faster finish?

In 7 turns athens pops border and the axe will jump off the island. If we work the max hammers in Sparta, we can make CH in 14, or barracks in 5 if we need troops there to defend against Delphi. Or maybe we take out Delphi in 7 (after the Athens pop) then move east with the army.

Looking at city use, I suggest we use Karak, Athens, and EastBridge for commerce, the rest for hammers. Karak is 11H 28C at max hammers, 8H and 34C on max commerce.

Athens has 12H max now, but has academy and should be our GP farm, running a couple of specialists and cottages, unless we think we are done with reasearch after engineering.

EastBridge is stagnant for growth if it works the iron. Why not give up the hammers and let the pop grow.

Mecca is our best hammer city at 16, followed by Turfan at 14 (or 28 for troops since it has HE). So let's whip that market and get it back to troop production. Maces in Mecca and Turfan, cats elsewhere (except the three commerce cities).

I am open to hearing other ideas about city roles ... a lot depends on wheher we are shutting off research after eng ... can cats and maces beat rifles?
