SGOTM 05 - Mac Team

You can also load up existing galleys with raiding parties and send them on their way south.

Right... and unload them onto that unclaimed tile you spoke of.

In case I'm able to trade for Code of Laws, what is our next research goal?... Civil Service?

I don't think you'll be able to trade; no one likes us. But you probably will finish it. I think Civil Service should be next; we need Bureaucracy and the ability to chain irrigation.

Savey save.

We are in a tough situation. Our barb allies are going to be wiped off the big island soon.

I don't have any specific suggestions other than keep building troops and send some more raiding parties to Sals island. The raiding parties should be staged down by the iron+copper where there are free tiles.

Yeah - our barbarian allies are being cut down by Tokugawa. I even tried paying him off with Code of Laws and some gold, but he wouldn't budge.

I'm really wondering if attacking Saladin is such a good idea. Maybe it will be enough kick him off our island and then turtle down?

I think after we kick Sal off our island we should start expanding westward, once the borders pop on Toku's city over there. If we can force peace with Toku and get to the big island via the western route, we might be able to make some progress against India.

But we may be out of the running for a domination win. I'm not sure what the alternatives are.

1) 1274 AD - positioning units

2) 1280 AD - Kara. b. cat, set to Keshik; Besh. b. cat, set to axeman;

3) 1286 AD - moving galleys to blockade Kufah (don't want Sal's galleys escaping);

4) 1292 AD - positioning a swordsman nar Khurasan;

5) 1298 AD - Barbs provide Literature;

6) 1304 AD - galley continues to move toward Sal's southern lands;

7) 1310 AD - declare war on Saladin; Lost Keshik attacking Sal's swordsman protecting his iron source;

8) 1316 AD - Kufah captured :D ; Besh. b. axeman, set to Keshik;

9) 1322 AD - Khurasan captured;

10 1328 AD - pillagers land in Sal's backyard and moving toward iron;

Recap: Sal has one city left on our mainland; some units healing for this final assault; 3 galleys defending the strait between us and Saladin; need to check the science investment (I forgot) and increase it now that we've some :gold: from capturing 2 cities; after capturing Sal's last city on our mainland, ???

The library in Ning-hsia should be whipped. We should probably close borders with Qin unless we want his galleys and settlers wandering around our territory.

Edit: we should probably whip some defenders in Ning-hsia first, in case Qin gets any big ideas.

There are four unhappy citizens in Karakorum. We should probably whip a colosseum there.

We should probably move some of our defenders from Beshbalik over to the west since we control the water and Saladin can't get to Beshbalik.

After we pillage the iron and copper, we should pillage towns for gold.

I don't see us invading Saladin right now. After we take the last city on our island, we should make peace (after some more pillaging), then settle the sugar island to our east and build some more cities on our island. Once borders pop to our west, we can take Toku's city there, which seems pretty good and gives us a bridge to the big island. There's a spot one north or south of the bananas on our island for another city.

I've downloaded the save, and will follow Dr. S's plan (unless there are stringent objections). I'll try to play tomorrow (Sunday).

Finished my turn set. Biggest mistake: agreeing to peace with Saladin too soon (which meant I missed out on some pillaging income). I realized my mistake about 153 milliseconds after agreeing to the deal. :doh

Turn highlights:

1334: whip Colosseum in Karakorum to deal with unhappiness-caused starvation.

1340: Cyrus offers gems for dye. I take it.

1352: Close border with Qin. Whip axe in Ning-Hsia.

1358: Take Anjar, recapturing a worker. Saladin agrees to peace without conditions. Spot unbelievably advanced Chinese technology that allows them to sail smaller ships in the deep ocean.

1364: Karakorum begins a settler. We need to fill in the island, and, if we're lucky, get another settler to sugar island to the east. We don't have the population to compete in the Medieval period right now. Moving one galley to the east for possible expansion.

I don't have any short term suggestions. I'm curious about other people's long-term thoughts. Where are we going with this game? I don't have a good sense of what we should be trying to achieve long term.

Me niether. Conquest seems a distant dream. Right now we are operating at a severe economic deficit, which translates into a seemingly insurmountable tech lag.

Maybe we can extort a couple of techs from Saladin in exchange for Peace after we start to kick him off our island. That will certainly help some.

I still can't think of a way we can leverage the few remaining barbarian strongholds into a strategic advantage. If anyone has any ideas on this, speak up!

Cultural is out, UN isn't an option. That leaves Domination (same problems as Conquest) and Space.

If we're going for Space, we're going to need another island or two :assimilate:
