SGOTM 08 - Chokonuts

I played through 12 turns and left it at the beginning of turn 290 I believe

Went through all the cities and tried to set up builds for our three goals from comment i read above:
1. Take Rome and continue towards Antium
2. Spread Confusion and Sushi
3. Build wonders: I think we were a bank short for wall street so I am pretty sure I put a bank or two in the build queue's.

Other than that build a few workers as we don't have many and continued to build rail roads, fort on oil, panama canal, etc.
Could use another few workers I think still.
Spoiler :

Turn 1: Used GG to create a super medic who is on a fleet currently on route to Deli along with other troops, missionaries, and execs.
Settled GS as this changed by build queue to create missionaries in two turns instead of three and also dropped assembly line to 4 turns from 5. I bumped it back up to five because by dropping slider to 70% to allow more gold for upgrades.
There was a cr3 axe floating around so i invest 245 gold and upgraded other than that deleted a couple of axes as they were replaced by newer units.

IBT 1: stack gets countered kills some cav's, a canon, and four rifles.
Our canons and arty take a lot of flanking damage. We lose a rifle.

Secrets of Arty are stolen by Caesar.
Pericles switches to environ. and US.

Turn 2:

GE born in Ulundi is of to choko to build pentagon when Assembly known.

IBT2: Lose a cav

Turn 3:
Lose a cav for a canon and rifle

IBT 3:

Turn 4-IBT 5: Snooze

Turn 6:

Assembly in begin Pentagon in choko

IBT 6:
snooze.

Turn 7:
spread confusion to miletus
Hurry Pentagon with g.e (not completely)

IBT 7: Frigate exchange with caesar.

Turn 8:
Lose 4 arty and canon taking Rome

IBT 8:
Resolution to end war with Caesar - we defy
upgrade 9 canons to arty
war weariness becoming a problem. Up culture to 10% and drop sci to 60%
radio still in 4. (I upped sci to 70% towards end i think);

Turn 9: Snooze
IBT 9: Village Destroyed by infiltrators

Turn 10:
Pentagon complete
Sushi in CoCoMa and Yoda
Bio-> Boudica
Commie + map -> us
Resolution Fails (forget which turn this was known)

IBT 10: snooze

Turn 11:
Ephesus gets Confused.

IBT 11: snooze

Turn 12: 2 rifles lost for 2 roman cavs as we march towards antium.

IBT 12 : Radio in. Stuff loading in a west coast Portugese city. A fleet about to land in Delhi.

Next Sushi target might be Bombay as it lacks food and could use the food boost.
Next research - I think i left it on Mass Media but not sure. Other possibilit Industrialization what does everyone think?
Yoda is now a super science city with 200+ bpt.
Didn't change any civics but rep is definately something to think about maybe after war with Rome is done.
Edit;
I also put a drydock in elphantastic as it seemed a little without purpose.
There is a settled GG there so I figurex 8 XP(2 from pentagon) Boats from there would be a way to go.
I build one of two panama canals to give these boats quick access to the three main bodies of water.
The second one still needs to be built but I wanted to get the mines and oil done first.
There is a hill on the Isthmus down to the two cities (Yodhasphura and another) where it would go.

BTW, everyone should have the autosave interval set to 1 in their civ.ini file for cases like this (it defaults to 5 I think).

That's how it works. THanks. I thought it was part of the file so assumed i was ok by downloading the file everyone is using.

I queue up Wall Street, Rock'n'Roll, Eifell Tower and Christo Redentor in our cities. Mass Media is an OK choice for next tech so leave it (we want control of the UN).

On the Roman front, we need to take Antium and Arretium and raze Ravenna , Medilanum and Neapolis. Let's see how far we can get on this path.

We take Antium first turn and then head for Ravenna to clear the south eastern quadrant.

Mass Media comes in and is replaced by Industrialism. Pericles sports tanks so we'll need some.

Boudica takes Mediolanum for us.

civ4screenshot0001bz3.jpg

I send the Great Prophet to the setting off point to head over for the Taoist Shrine. Next GP out of Yoda and 66% scientist chance which is good as the two GS corps are unfounded as yet.

Ravenna is razed.

civ4screenshot0002oy5.jpg

Cristo Redentor is built.

We take Arretium.

civ4screenshot0003tj5.jpg

We get a GS, I send him to Nobamba, where he can found Standard Ethanol or Alu Co.

In general, I built a few missionaries to spread the faiths around.

At the end of 10 turns, we have 1 turn left on Industrialism. Rock and Roll 2 turns, Wall Street 5, Eifell 3, UN 6. To get West Point we need a level 6 unit. We have a rifle that just needs 7xp I think. To get Red Cross we need 6 hospitals, I queued 1 up in the capital. Ulundi has Hollywood queued. I also queued work boats in cities with unclaimed sea resources.

Us or Boudica should have Neapolis done in a turn or two. We should get peace then. We'll have to see if we can get a tech for peace (we don't want capitulation) Rocketry would be best but Combustion OK, even Fascism allows a NW. If we can't get Combustion for peace consider teching it as we need oil for tanks.

We have 205/310, so have 21 wonder to get. The Taoist shrine and the 4 being built (no-one has Radio yet) leave 16. Hollywood/Red Cross and West Point leaves 13. The others have Creative Constructions (Corinth), Hindu Shrine and Sankore (Athens), Buddhist Shrine (Aachen), Mausollos (Portugal), Lighthouse (Bibracte), leaving 7. 4 are corps (need 2 GSs, GA and GM). Leaves Three Gorges, Space Elevator ant Mt Rushmore I think. Rocketry is the furthest down the tech path we need.

Greece with its tanks seems a bridge too far until we can bring our own (although our power is way beyond theirs). Our two choices after the Rome wars are no more (ie two turns) are Holy Roman or Greece I think. Charlie is way behind in tech, so if we want to get his one city first we can, razing a clear path. We can then turn north taking Corinth and Athens and probably Bibracte at the same time.

We then have one Portugese city to take and win the game.

What do we think?

Beelining our forces for Holy Roman shrine followed by Greece sounds good.
I think we also need internet.
I would imagine at least one corp will be founded in Greece of the four and he is probably building three gorges.

Nice report Oz. You really made short work of those three Roman cities.
Maybe I wait too long to heal but my arty and canons were really banged up by the flanking damage on the road to Rome.

edit:
with redentor in we can think about civics.
I would keep US for the wonder whoring phase currently underway. Then go rep. as we have a ton of settled great people.
Also if and when Jao goes out of religion we can go free religion.

10 more turns complete. Here we go:

- Finished Industrialism, Rocketry, Combustion, and Fascism. Just selected Plastics because it gives Three Gorges and allows Standard Ethanol.

- Razed Neapolis since it didn't have a wonder. Made peace with Augustus, but he was stubborn and would only give us a map :(

- Finished Rock'n'Roll, Eiffel Tower, Wall Street, and UN.

- Founded Aluminum Co. Another GS is born...he can be used for Standard Ethanol when Plastics completes.

- Pericles' declares war on Charlie...interesting

- Great Prophet is on his way to Arretium for last Shrine

- Started Apollo Program in capital. We've finished 5 hospitals and the last one is almost done so we will be able to build Red Cross. We can also now build Mt. Rushmore. Our wonder score is now 230/320.

- We are elected Sec. General of UN. Only Joao voted for us. Boudica was other runner and got votes from Charlie and Pericles (our friend?). We should be able to propose first vote soon.

- Troops are being assembled on silver mine 1 SW of Bombay in preparation for war. I've also started building tanks :)

I don't think I've left anything out. We should be close to war again...especially if Pericles is currently warring with Charlie.

Who are we aiming for in the new war, Charly or Pericles? If Pericles is already at war and we're still twice his power I wouldn't mind going after him.

Have we started building tanks to ferry over?

Does Apollo count for wonder points? I don't think it does (or Ethernet) as it is a project not a wonder.

A few tanks are headed to galleons, but none have got on a boat yet.

I forgot about Apollo probably not counting for points, I've only done 2 turns on it so it could be stopped...or we could let it finish (6 more turns I believe) in case we want to back into that type of victory.

We should use the war to our advantage as we did against Rome. Which side to take.
Technologically pericles is only real obstacle left my only real worry against him is that the cities we need off him are on the other side of his land from where we are. If we go through him we run risk of him vassaling with HRE. If we go round and take goals first we leave ourselves open to counter (if he can make one). HRE has a large standing army it is old but it is still there to have to be beaten. I will check recon if Pericles has just defensive units I say go round then come back through him.
If no one has Plastics I say change to flight to give us fighters and Bombers. I think only builds needed from now are units and wonders. I will look to prioritise to give us needed GP's for remaining corps. Should be able to play tonight to keep this moving unless anyone has any major thoughts or deabtes.

Let's keep track of what wonders we need and where they are:

Current Wonder score: 230/310
Current Game Score: 230/310 =.7419
Wonders Left: 16

National Wonders Left: 15 points (245)
Mount Rushmore - Can be built now
West Point - Need level 7 unit (have level 6 rifle - do not upgrade)
Red Cross - 1 hospital left

Shrines 15 points (260)
Taoist - Arretium (GP on the way)
Hindu - Athens (Greece)
Buddhist - Aachen (HRE)

Corporations 20 points (280)

Creative Constructions - Corinth (Greece)
Standard Ethanol - Plastics (We have the GS)
Civilized Jewellers (Need a GA)
Cereal Mills (Need a GM)

World Wonders 30 Points (310)

Great Lighthouse - Bibracte (Celtia)
University of Sankore - Athens (Greece)
Mausolleum of Maussollos - ??? (Portugal) - WHERE IS THIS???
Hollywood - Hopefully this is just about complete
Three Gorges Dam - Need Plastics
Space Elevator - Need Robotics

I think from here we just work towards winning the game as quick as we can, keep on the Plastics path to get the two wonders we need, capture the cities we need, raze all others, capitulate the AI and win this thing. After Plastics, Flight would be good as we can airlift units to the front quickly. Start up Rushmore somewhere as well and try and get West Point.

How many turns in are we? As our final score is wonder points/turns, we should figure out where to stop if possible (ie where our score isn't going to increase).

We need a GM and GA for the remaining corps, so sack all scientists and employ merchants and artists.

Actaully there is a graph on the progress page that tells me it is turn 310. So we have a score of .74. We need to get every wonder in 419 turns to better this. If we don't get the two final corps it is 405 turns. We should keep track of this as well.

I'm thinking we're reaching critical mass and need to try and win quickly from here, so should we keep rather than raze cities (closer to domination and more UN votes) and capitulate rather than get peace. If we capitulate an AI, they cannot culturally impede on captured cities.

:confused::confused:

Are we moving from goal of getting all wonders to goal of best possible game score. I think our best possible score is going to be gained after about 10 or so turns at the most. This will give us time to complete Hollywood Red Cross Rushmore Tao Shrine and Standard Ethanol. Its going to take about 20 for next GP and 30 turns for one after that. Three Gorges is going to take to long to build to improve our score. We have chance to get votes of Charlie and Boudicca if we drop religion or even change to Buddhist. Not sure if this will be enough but I think we can write off chances of getting anyone elses. To improve our chances we should try to capture Greek cities but they have flight so maybe trickier than expeceted.
With not being sure of goals I have not played turns I probably not got time until weekend to play now so skip me this time (and hopefully for last time).

I'm not sure. What do we think?

I was just thinking we probably won't get the two remaining corps so should try and win this thing quickly. We can probably capitulate Pericles and capture Athens and Corinth (with their 15 points) in 15-20 turns. After that we should be able to capitulate another AI and capture a wonder (charly) and build 3 gorges in 10 or so turns after that if we war quickly. That should improve our score and push us towards victory.

I guess we have to ask ourselves - do we want to get a "reasonable" score or do we want to just have fun and finish this game?

If we would still like a somewhat respectable score (we know other teams are going to crush us), we should take the approach to push as fast as possible and finish as soon as we can. War, War, War, a few wonders, more War. We could even declare on Augustus and Gandhi again to make them capitulate.

If we don't care about our score, we can just have fun, spread our corps and religions around and max out the wonder score of 320.

The question is - which do we prefer? As I re-read some of the posts now and from a while ago, we've gone back and forth on this issue and we should settle on 1 before we play again.

As for my vote, I don't care either way and will let someone else who may have a stronger opinion decide.

If I thought we could get all wonders I would say go ahead and do it but I'm not sure we will get the two corps. Given we have less than a month as well...

Re-declaring on Gandhi and Augustus would be a good idea, we can capitulate them easily.

For mine, let's just finish this baby off. War on two fronts, boost our wonder score as much as we can and win.
