SGOTM 08 - Chokonuts

Played only 8 turns in this turnset but have to throw back to the next player. Our land war proceeded well but at sea we brought back memories of the Argentinians in the Falklands war.
I built some navy as a priority and upgraded a few vessels while deleting others. Our pipeline of new troops was delayed and our cultural defenses were
reduced and fishing boats destroyed. Some new boats are/have being/been built and should go out when the seas are safe.
Couldn't find medic did he die earlier?

Turn 1/320: Set up build queues most troops have auto moved already so hit enter.
IBT 1: Charlie joins the fun and Thebes is captured. Greeks lose two destroyers and an arty we lose SOTL and frigate

Turn 2/321: Reduce spartan defenses.
IBT 2: Snooze.

Turn 3/322: Go for speed and take eritrea without reducing cultural defenses losing only two tanks.
Sparta falls and our heroic rifle is at 20/26 XP. Lost an arty in the process.

I rejiggle things at Yoda and Yodhasphura to try to focus on artist (any thoughts on using caste guys?)

Turn 6/325 This comes up while we lose a battleship and exchange destroyers.

IBT 6: Vote is non event

Turn 7/326: Athens falls :dance: lost two arty and intrepid rifleman is 21/26 XP
Turn 8/327: Knossos falls to a tank charge without taking down defenses hoping to capitulate Pericles.
Stubborn SOB refuses to given in :aargh:
HRE have taken thebes in the west and look like marching north of athens. I think our stack can beat them to the city up there.
Our tanks in Knossos can heal and probably charge another city which should get the capitulation finally.

I am attaching the war and diplo situation so you can see how things stand. I didn't yet convert to Buddism as I wanted to get the greeks under control and am worried about pissing Jao off.

The un stuff is pretty bizarre (echoing mighty's comments earlier).
Sec. Gen. Is Boudica but diplo vic. was between us and Jao :crazyeye:
 
I think what has happened is Boudica won initial vote for Sec Gen but since Joao has overtaken her in population. Boudicca as sec gen will propose votes until the next sec gen vote which will be between us and second in pop (currently Joao). Pericles cant be far from Capitualtion. Once that is done we should move some troops to cover an attack by Joao. If HRE takes some Indian cities that is good we just dont want him to take any Portugeuse cities.

Corp not founded GM in Delhi. Internet queued at choco. Just captured Greek wonders.

no issues with switch just have to watch our backdoor with Jao.
 
Internet gives us no wonder points so if it is a long build I wouldn't worry.

TGD should be a 3-4 turns away.
I guess now that Jao is at war with HRE he is unlikely to threaten us before we get our defenses in place.
 
I had a quick look at the save (I should be able to play later but might not). 2 things of notice, Charly and Boudicia are in their fave civics which is good, what is not good is that our highest xp rifle appears to have no extra xp since the last time I played. We need those 5xp for West Point. I'll see if I can garnish some.
 
I decide to pop Cereal Mills in Greece rather than Delhi. We need to get all cities other than Sparta Sids Sushi. We need Refrigeration first though :cry:

I swap civics and religion and the diplo situation is this.

I then gift Medecine to Boudicea and she turns friendly. I also gift Fascism to Joao to get him to Pleased.

I also found a couple of cities with Sids, so we can boost our pop a bit.

Charly is keen to grab this city. I take it next turn.

I take two cities and Pericles is willing to give up his last mainland city for peace.

We also get the best named city in the game for free.

So we have another choice to make...

What to do now? If we had the UN-Generalship, we could pull the trigger right now but we don't and Boudicea in all her wisdom proposes that we adopt Emancipation (which all civs are in anyway :confused:). I vote no in principle.

I've played 4 turns (until Robotics). I put research on Satellites (for Space Elevator) and then we need Refrigeration (for Ceral Mills).

Do we want to war for the last three wonders (1 each in Portugal, HRE and Celts) and capitulate the world into submission or just get the diplo victory when it comes up (who knows how long we need to wait)? We can build space elevator in 5 turns and then found cereal mills in another 3 after that. Next GP is 15 turns about 20% chance of artist.

Let's get the situation clear and I'll play the last 6 turns.

We have improved our score quite a bit over the last few turns but it is hard to see us improve from here. We need to win the quickest way possible, I think we just have to suck it and wait for the UN.

EDIT: Only other chance is to see if Boudicia would declare on Charly and then join in a couple turns later take the holy city and capitulate him, doubt this would work but you never know.
 
On VC I am ok with whatever the team decides probably best to do what is more fun for you, cubbies and Mighty as we are unlikely to get back to me unless going for it all.
On the high XP rifleman I didn't realize there was a higher Rifleman floating around. I thought the rifleman I nursed to that 21XP I mentioned in my notes above was the highest ranker. :sad: Anyway, we probaby need to pick a fight somewhere or how else how are we going to get the XP from here.

Maybe the rifle died. We had a 21XP rifle last time I played and the highest when I picked up the save was 21 (now 22).

I think the only reasonable target for war and the extra xp is Augustus as no-one likes him so we won't get any -ve diplo. Don't know we'd get 4xp though. He has a city in our south, we could pound him with arty and only let the rifle attack. If he has 4 defenders then we could get it, he's likely to capitulate to Boudicia soon I think.
 
Oz thinking through your reply it seems that if we are going to wrap this up probably not worth the DOW for the XP.
Augustus will cap. to Boudica and we may well find ourselves at war with her messing diplo up.
 
I say go for the diplo win and just work quickly to get Elevator, General Mills and possibly GA for last corp. War at this point in the game is more laborious vs. fun...at least for me. As a backup, maybe we could pump out some spaceship pieces in case people don't vote the way we need - we might be the only team to get a spaceship victory...

Also - that is the best city name in the game. I'm surprised they used it.

- I'm saying we'd still go for diplo, but while we wait for the right votes to come up, we could be pumping out parts in our numerous cities.
 
Continuing on...

Not too much to do, I try and grow our cities population by re-boating our fishes and farming over workshops.

We research Satellites and start Space Elevator (takes 10 turns).

The vote comes up on turn 337.

Pericles has to vote for us and Boudicia is now +14 (she asked for Assembly Line and I gave it to her) and Charly is +15 beacuse of this. :goodjob:

We have to try and get Space Elevator done in 5 turns (I think 5 turns between votes). I decrease the slider to just enough to get Refrigeration in 1 turn and then down to 0% to buy Elevator when we can.

Cereal Mills is done.

We're at 280/340 =0.8235, I think the next vote is in 3 turns so if we buy Space Elevator then, we should end up on 285/343 =0.8309 which is about the highest it has ever been. We need to sell techs and excess cash as it pops up but we should be able to get the cash together (I reckon we'll need about 6000).

Our only problem would be if Boudicia gets ahead of Joao in votes but I don't think that will happen.

Hopefully this is just about over.
