SGOTM 10 - One Short Straw

I have actually adopted the religion as soon as it's founded, since it gives time for a worker to chop out another worker without much loss. More workers = good :D

To get lib, we'll need a GS within the first two great people. If we go GE first, then a GS from 2 scientists under pacifism (12 gpp) takes.... 270/24 or 24ish turns. So we can get a GS in the mid 1400's, which I think is early enough. If we try to crank out settlers earlier, it'll take a little longer to get the GS (I'd say ~10 turns). We can also change to caste system once we finish a settler or two, to really speed up GS production.

The only questions is if the GE serves any use here...

Also there are some combinations where GE bulb is preferably [something along lib into constitution, trade for gunpowder, bulb economy with GE getting GM instead... not that it would be reliable, but within realm of reality].

On my testing, that might be too late for free GM. There are obviously uses for GE (we could also rush Taj or NE), but I prefer getting an academy, followed by Education bulb. This is doable with an early switch to caste (mid-1400's).

This makes me think... Are we thinking of cottaging Moscow later, or just relying on specs for base tech? When would we need to start working cottages to have it pay off without Emancipation?

If we're cottaging anything, it should be the capital (and probably only the capital). With 4 workers, we can start cottaging the riverside tiles in anticipation of weaning Moscow off of specialists (as St. P and other cities come online).

Bump.

Where is the other half of the team? I think we have the opening sequence pretty much down. I'm good with shyuhe playing whenever he's happy with his test runs. Should we go for 2-3t first, then post some screenshots so we can discuss exploration a bit?

Ok, it's been a few days and haven't heard anything new. So I propose the following:

Settler moves to 1W of gold. Second settler moves to where worker is. We revolt to bureau/serfdom/merc/pac. Worker then begins chopping the tile he is on.

Any objections?

edit:  nice x-post. I imagine people are busy with things. I'll PM them just to make sure. But I'll probably play out the rest of the first turn sometime tomorrow.

We should also discuss which direction our explorers go in. Assuming we continue with Moscow 1W of gold and St. Pete on the ivory, we'll have to assign directions for LB#1 and #2, and the explorer.

I'm sorry team - briefly had other matters to attend to. Will be posting more thoughts tonight.

I haven't heard anything from Alan about that yet. Hopefully it won't be an issue...

Good point about the settler, but I think it's better to settle as you can see the tiles in the BFC when you settle anyways. In effect, settling provides the same scouting as moving to look and moving back to settle.

I think the upper LB should go look for seafood. That penninsula is probably a dead-end but we want to figure out optimal city placement for it anyways.

I'm O.K. with this.

Ok, revolted bureau/serf/merc/pac as discussed and moved the units as well. Next turn, northern LB heads north (spots island), explorer SSW, and southern LB SW. I settle Moscow and worker continues chopping (cancelled order just to be safe). So here's the layout:

The second settler has not moved yet. As Soirana (or someone) suggested, it may be better to move 2W before doubling back to settle on the ivory. I doubt we'll change the location of St. Pete but just in case...

edit: I'm pretty sure we're on the small part of B&S.

What do you mean? You are chopping from t0, right?

Our opening depends quite a bit on chopping that hill right away. Moving Peter would screw that up, and I can't imagine anything we find beating the two seafood for early growth and expansion. I prefer knowing how we'll play the first 25t ahead of time.

Jesus, we made through first turn!!!

I see the light in da end...

WOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to move the north LB to 1W of fish. I think we need to know more about the potential city site there ahead of sending a settler. Looks like we have four cities in the screenshot now...
