SGOTM 10 - One Short Straw

I might play on Sunday. basically i would keep to previously posted plan [version with late religion switch].

Still would like to reinstall civ first [actually deinstalling is hardest part]

I think we have the next 5-6 turns down, so playing Sunday should be fine. Do you wanna post a plan for review? I'm down with getting peace asap, then OB, before religion. We should probably play through to that point, then spend some time figuring out GP's, expansion strategy and fogbusting/exploration. I would vote for another LB out of Moscow, as it grows to 8, then get going on a settler. We'll need a CG unit in St Pete soon.

Can't we use one of the LB near the stolen worker for St. P? I'd rather not sink too many hammers into military police if possible (i.e., warriors). Also, once Gandhi OB's with us, he can't stop it for 10 turns so if we can squeeze out a settler in 10 turns, that'll give us enough of a window to sneak a settler through his lands.

No worries, I'm over my warrior obsession now. :) I meant we should do another LB in Moscow as it grows - we need something to build there anyway. How many fogbust units will we need in the near future? I don't imagine StPete doing any military, and Moscow should be occupied with settler spam for some time.

Not sure, but if chop and GE rush is on same turn that is basically wasted chop. At least in my memmory.
The hammers from a chop will overflow to the next build if it occurs on the same turn that a GE is used.

I think it did occur on the same turn, so he might have a worker this turn, assuming that's what he's using the chop on.

Playing to peace sounds all right. You can just go ahead, as far as I'm concerned. Chopping sounds good.

Killed Ghandi's explorer [90%+ chance 2xp] and managed to get his map and 10 gold for peace at 1375AD.

Well, we got some more fish....

No trace of someone, on whom Ghandi is spendig espionage. although guessing on where his explorers spend time i'd guess northern landmass.

:goodjob:

The fish city's looking pretty decent. 2fish/iron/4hill is probably gonna be better than 3fish. There could be someone on the SW landmass (the one with sheep)... I'm starting to wonder where the uranium is on this map... There's a lot of resource-less tiles in the west.

Are we running a scientist in Moscow? What's our GP plan now?

Yeah, I was thinking we'd just take the extra hammers for now. It's up to you.

Fish could be a GP farm, but that would probably require getting it up and running soon. No? We should probably settle a couple of cities in the south first...

 What happened exactly? I thought we were both getting a settler by 1430 in tests...

The GA is really unfortunate... Winning back that FP is a tall order now. What are the options? Letting it go, rushing Taj and hoping that gets it back, or switching to a 3fish GP farm? Both of those fixes require a substantial investment...

I'd put St. P on wealth for a turn then build a settler. We definitely want to try settling behind Gandhi as there's some nice green land over there, and probably room for two cities. If we settle near the fur, we can block off the west from him. The 4th city should go near the coast to the south. Still not quite sure how we want to fit the cities in over there though...

I think with library + NE, the border should hold. Once St. P reaches 150 culture, it should stop the cultural bleeding. I would let the FP go for now.

The border will hold the way it is now, but that FP is an extra specialist for the length of the game... At the very least, we should probably put a rush order on NE. We can gradually chip away at a GA bomb, as long as he doesn't rush a wonder or something in Bombay.

it is 1425AD.
I canceled chop with one worker turn left.
In my test it was around 1435Ad actually so i kept to my target.

Ok, didn't notice the pre-chop...

I'm not so sure about building settlers in St. Pete. It can afford to grow to 9, and could then contribute a couple of workers, but I think we should be maxing specialists and getting NE up and running soon. Moscow is much, much faster building settlers, with all those hammers running through bureau.

I guess we should dotmap now... We could use some production from the next city or two. Fur is pretty weak. We'll need some reasonably accurate testing on his settling pattern and timeline now. In my previous tests, I didn't need to worry about him settling south or west for quite a while (late 1500's). He goes for iron first, and he's quite slow expanding after the early worker steal.

I think either mdy or RRR is up now.

@bbp - I only suggest building a settler in St. P because we want to try to block off some land quickly. It may be better to leave the settlers to Moscow and workers for St. P, as you suggest.
