SGOTM 10 - One Short Straw

Nuked some more. We're mostly lacking in conventional arms for conquest now :( I wish we had flight to airlift but oh well.

Some more amusing screens:

It's probably another 20 turns or so until we wipe everyone out. Also, Gandhi has two destroyers left and they should be the only oil based units around now.

Good job Shyuhe and good luck BBP :) Nice barbarian workforce

Played to Jan '57. Didn't play too well. Had to take peace with Gandhi, as I immediately declared on Mao and the WW killed me. Some awkward losses on the seas first couple of turns. Because of that, the assault on the barb continent is stalling. I killed Mao. Roosevelt's last city is coming down this turn (I nuked and destroyed the defenders, but can't move the cossack 'till next). The Holy City has also been nuked, just for reference. That leaves 9 cities now. I'm not even bothering with city builds anymore. Just doing wealth in all cities that can't produce a nuke. At this point, we just desperately need some land troops in position.

:goodjob: Team! Woot, woot! Raise the roof!

I thought I'd be short on troops after yesterday's set, but I just ended up setting all cities to build wealth and bought a bunch of units near the front. Triple-nuked some of last cities. I was gonna take Parthian just as revenge for Rostov, but it was too awkward and didn't wanna delay the victory.

This was the last city:

And, look at this handsome guy:

Can't wait to see the other threads... Will report soon.

Congrats on the win and finishing on time! :)

Grats BBP! Having a look at the save shortly! :)

PS: tx Yamps

@Yamps, hvala, brate. :D Congrats on your game.

@Team, we're roughly in the middle of the pack. MW & X ran away with it, and it looks like US for the bronze, or maybe Smurkz. Haven't had a chance to look at any threads carefully, but it seems we were inefficient in the war phase. We might have been in bronze contention 'till relatively late, though it's not really clear (US finished in 1933, btw). I really thought it was over when we lost Rostov.

 Perhaps we shouldn't have thrown in the towel so early. I'll take a look at some other threads as well.

:goodjob: finishing before the deadline though!

We were watching your progress closely, Smurkz as well. You didn't whip your civ down to the ground, that's what made the difference. We were using mostly 2 tactical nukes for each city in the end to get things done faster.

@babybluepants

Hvala, eto bit ce valjda prva bronca!

but it seems we were inefficient in the war phase.

With the benefit of hindsight, I see that my warring against Mao was very sloppy  two nukes was clearly the way to go...

Tx to the team for this game :goodjob: Finishing it is an achievement! :D
edit: BBP, you must translate those sentences, otherwise I'll start the french spam

^ We were just in too much of a rush to really think through it. I got off to an awful start, losing some ships in the first few turns of the war phase.

Well, I think we were all deflated after Rostov - I know I stopped really worrying about the game fully. Given that we effectively lost about 20t of research with the Gandhi DOW (whipping all our cities way down and stopping infra builds just when we were supposed to start teching fast - I think 20t is probably right), I guess we were on a pretty decent tech pace overall. That said, the DOW was probably inevitable, so we can't really speculate on what would've been. I'm mostly interested in seeing the first half of the game from the other teams, since that's when we were really putting up an effort. MW apparently settled the Bombay site, which makes their game a bit of a non-contest, though it seems they also REX-ed very hard by whipping - something we just discounted without giving it much thought. The top two teams also apparently did a lot of work on restricting AI expansion.

PS: I said, "Thanks, bro", Yamps said, "Thx, hopefully we'll get our first bronze." Not very interesting... :)

^^ I wonder if avoiding pacifism (religion) would have got us a safer game...

Look at Maple Sporks' game. Those guys deserve an award for high battle spirtit. They settled bombay alike spot as Leningrad ( =p ) but but lost it to Gandhi declaration (They could have saved it, though... bad handling of war but managed in the end).
