SGOTM 10 - One Short Straw

Played through steel. We may have a problem...

Civ4ScreenShot0260.jpg

DeGaulle has set sail, and I can't tell if he's after us or after Gandhi... If he's after us, it's not going to be worth playing through the rest of this game. Anybody feeling lucky want to play the next few turns?

also, Gandhi came with a demand that I gave:

Didn't want to risk the refuse trade war declaration trigger.

On a totally unrelated note, it's funny how the log shows who's privateer we attacked

Moscow should start IW after it pops its next person. There will need to be some tile shuffling with St. P to maximize its production though.

Gandhi is the worst enemy of De Gaulle so he probably won't attack us.

In exchange for scientific method and steel Mao will declare war on De Gaulle and give us him map and 70 gold which should remove any risk of him attacking us.

Alternatively we could try to use the extort 1 gold for a 10 turn peace treaty trick.

I would just hope that DG attacks Gandhi... Seems reasonably straightforward here. We should just press on towards Rocketry, while completing all the wonders. IW in Moscow and GT in Yaro. Just lots of tile switching to coordinate everything.

Nevermind, hadn't seen the new turns... can't play today (up in the Taxman SG), but I am free the rest of the week...

edit: lubermill in the new city instead of chop -> shop? :D This city should go theater after wbs so it take back its third seafood anyway :)
edit2: isn't silver mine better than engeener in southern city as it won't generate a specialist? Novgorod can use another shop also (even ifwill loose a pop), it will also cut indian irrigation :D

Ended up not needing to bribe Mao. I think DeGaulle declared war on the barbs  I demanded 1 gold tribute and his fleet went right by us towards the Barbs. Of course it means more cities to nuke, but oh well.

We picked up Kremlin and completed Manhattan. St. P lost another tile to Gandhi so it's building the globe for now. Tech has been set to corporations (the AI will never trade it unless all the corps are founded) but I'm not sure if we want to detour to MT instead. Gandhi won't get bomb shelters in time, so nukes will destroy his cities and units - I think cossacks will be the most efficient unit for grabbing his cities right now.

We also have a GSpy, 2 GS, and a GA in Moscow. I would trigger a GA immediately with GS+GSpy, and wait for the GM from our farm to trigger a second GA. I would also seriously consider swapping to slavery since we have the Kremlin and many of our cities are near the happy cap (read - they'll get unhappy once we start warring).

I would build Globe in Yaro if St pet didn't spend too many hammers already... Yaro will be able to use it more if we go for some whipping crazyness...
And a few nukes will do far more than the Globe to take back those border tiles :p

More comments when I get a chance to see the save :)

St. P can pick up two of the seafood from Yaro if necessary. On the other hand, Yaro will take forever to complete the Globe unless it fires its specialists.

What do we want for tech order? We can go straight towards combustion or detour through corporations, possibly taking MT. I think we should pick up the two extra techs before going to combustion because we don't need subs for a while, if at all.

my vote: MT -> Corp -> AL -> combustion or stop research -> stop research or flight -> fascism. I honnestly don't think we'll need oil units. (maybe I underate the AIs a bit :))

thinking at it again, if we want oil units, I'd go MT -> corp -> AL -> combustion -> radio -> flight -> facism. But I would try to go as far as possible with galleons/frigates/SoL/nukes/cavs.

Yaro can build the globe in thirteen turns at the expense of delaying the next GP for 6 turns. As the Globe will be much more useful here and the next GP will only be needed for the 4th golden age and is not therefore time critical I think we dhould build the globe there instead.

Cavalry are probably good enough for our first war with Gandhi so I favor

military tradition-corporation-steam power-assembly line.

 so you agree with mdy, and you disagree with me when I said just the same! :aargh::gripe::trouble::lol:

^

The barbs had a long and healthy life in this game. Actually surprising no one went after them before. I don't think it matters - 50 or 60 cities to capture. It's a lot either way. The little islands are the real PITA.

I'm for MT first, as well. I might also take DG's cash - diplo is going down the drain in a bit anyway. Let's just roll over Gandhi with Cossacks as soon as possible. He has Corp, so maybe we can just take it from him, too. There's also a decent chance he's teching Steam right now. That makes me think we should go: MT -- Comb and throw in AL whenever we have Corp + Steam.

I'd launch the GS-Spy golden age immediately. What are the wartime civics? Should we just push out the last GP before a switch to slavery/theocracy? I would think stringing 2 golden ages right now would be the most beneficial, to get off to a fast start.

Roos is teching steampower. I don't know what Gandhi is teching any more as he has too many EPs (jails I think).

I think we want MT -- corp -- AL -- combustion -- radio. Or we can just stop at AL and use ICBM's + galleons instead. Now that I think about it, that sounds a lot more attractive...

GS/GSpy GA sounds good. We need rep still, and I would keep caste until we get the GM. Otherwise we risk serious GP pollution. Theocracy will let us skip stables in our horse cities which is nice. So push out the last GM, then swap slavery/theo? At that point, I would also spread out Yaro's nets to spread the food around. We'll probably be whipping all cities except Moscow.

If Yaro has the Globe, I would let it all the food necesarry to whip it every two turns (maybe it doesn't need all 5 seafoods, dunno)... Also with one more workshop, Novgorod shouldn't be whipped as it will be optimized for prod at size 14.

Agree on the rest, I think we have some more sets to decide when to stop research (we'll see where the others are once Gandhi is done)
