I hope I'm wrong about this... but there are a couple of teams that haven't played past 600 AD, and I don't think they've played in a while...could they be done?
Probably. We'll keep :hammer: here though.

I have it. I'll post dispatches regularly.

Haven't looked at the save yet but we might want to consolidate every artillery unit we have in the attack on the Stronghold. We're only attacking with 37 when we have 62 of them. We need to be able to redline everything in the city in 1 turn. I'd like to keep a few in reserve incase the Barb units promo up, then we can hit them again in the same turn. I'd like to see what a stack of about 75 artillery units can do. If we estimate 3 hits to redline a vet Infantry and 5 hits to redline each cannon we'd need to be successful 57% of the time with 75 artillery to reduce all 13 units in the same turn.
I tried to get as much Artillery into the breach as I thought I could. The problem is that he does have rails through most of his empire and there are a lot of units heading north through the chokepoint. I saw them as TF Double Deuce was approaching and considered leaving and army there to prevent it.

While there are 37 Arty units in the breach stack, there are another 15 to 20 in Guard Killer that can be move up under Infantry escort. Ipswich was threatened a couple of times and the AI was attacking the Inf Army stationed there. Now, it has a Rax, so it isn't so bad. I think I move the Army forward, if not, I think it can be done now safely. There were a number of units that threatened the northern flank and we needed to have some Arty there to take them out.

I also used Arty to take out some of the Barb Cannons around the sides of the square, to try to make it easier to get inside and reduce damage...

I can't imagine anyone getting thru that cannon defense without artillery and 600AD is pretty fast for replaceable parts in an emporer level game.

Pre-flight – 1425 – Find a few forted artillery and move them onto the stack. TF Double Deuce has not been pillaging as it goes? Armies do not lose a movement point when pillaging.

IBT – There is a decent counter attack at Guard Killer, but we don’t lose anyone.

1430 – Pound Barb Stronghold and there are two yellow defenders, the rest are redlined. So I attack. We lose four cavs, this chap shows up on the scene:

And…

We collect 25 slaves in all.
Now Nelson forms the 5th INF Army.

Start pillaging a wide swath through the southern barb continent.

IBT – Lose a cav

1435 – Start chipping away at the rest of the barb core.

@ New Lupaca… Lose a cav and:

Found Barb Revenge within the Stronghold Basin. Take out three cannons. Found Leeds. Take out one source of saltpeter.

Since we need to kill all barb cities, I swap some southern coast cities over to MoW and transports so we can take out some of those southern barb islands.

To be continued…

:woohoo:

Bugsy torched the Stronghold!! Good show!

I'm curious...why are we building MoW's? Shouldn't we swap to Destroyers and/or Cruisers? Cruisers make excellent transport escorts (same speed, decent combat stats, good bombardment) and Destroyers are fast little buggers... IIRC, destroyers can see submarines too... if that should come into play.

I might have to take a look at the bombardment stats for Cruisers... I can't remember if the bombardment range is 2 in the epic game, or just the WWII Pacific conquest scenario...but it'd be nice to have 2 or 3 on hand when we get ready to start island-hopping.

Once Flight comes in we should probably use airfields for our trans-oceanic logistics, and reposition our navy for an island-hopping campaign to the south of our home continent.

Nice work Bugs!! :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:

:band:  :trophy: [party]

Nice to see he wasn't invincible... :mischief:

Now its Balls to the Wall and hell bent for killing every city as fast as we can before he can recover. Where did the Capital jump to?

Keep up the good work! :hammer:

Thanks for the WBs :)
The vacation was most excellent (Uh-oh, Bill and Ted flashback [pimp]). I can tell you, sipping vintage port on a patio in Danmark in 24C (75F) at 9.30 PM is my way of living :D
The kids got theirs during the day with visits to theme parks and such and the evenings were just what the doctor ordered for the grownups ;)

I thought I was up
No prob that you grabbed it, Bugs, I'm just a little :crazyeye:
If I'm not up when I check back after the kids have gone to bed, I'll check with sgotm 4 and might play that turn set instead.

Good job Bugs. Did you happen to look at the demographics pre and post capture? I'm wondering how bad this impacted their overall production and economy.

My availability may be limited for the next fews days and over the weekend as I'll have a housefull of guest including my 5 year old niece running around, so don't despair if I'm not around until Tuesday or Wednesday next week. I'll try to check in but playing may not be a possibility.

By the time Bugs, Capt and Scout get through with their sets there may not be much left. If needed, slide the Mistical One in front of me.

Sorry, didn't look at the demographics. I can post them where they are at now.

Scout - good point about the MoW. I'll swap ASAP.

Starting second session now.

Tell me about it. I leave you guys a perfectly good continent full of Barbarians, and by the time it gets back to me... there probably won't be enough left for me to kill 100+ units like Leif did. :p :mischief:

If we need the demographics, I can get them form the save where I ended. :D

@Scout - Sorry, didn't mean to get so many, they just came like lambs to the slaughter. ;) Kind of like the Great Marianas Turkey Shoot. :p

@Gator - Have a good time with all them folks visitin'. Maybe you can give some Civ Lessons?? :mischief:

Keep up the good work Bugs... :goodjob:

As recommended by Scout I swap over all MoW builds to destroyers. we are number one in productivity. I just noticed that by founding Barb revenge, we have further cut the barb lands in half. Except in the mountains near revenge, there aren’t any roads north to south on their west coast.

IBT – We lose one cav and kill four. I get the feeling that the barbs are gassed.

1440 – Using our terrain, I bombard New Chinook, lose a cav capturing the city.

Abandon New Lupaca, and resettle Reading one tile NW. Kill two more Barb Cannon.

Move two task forces into position with a third headed south. It appears that the barbs are keeping three defenders per city. The problem is how far apart their cities are.

IBT – We get this news:

1445 – First I remobilize. Then at New Cherokee, use our navy to weaken the defenders and…

Abandon New Chinook 2 and found Birmingham 1 NW. Knock off another Barb cannon.

@ Zapotec, bombard, then use two cav armies to…

Disconnect the rubber. Set up for three more cities next turn.

To be continued…

IBT – Nada.

1450 – At Olmec – Bombard, lose a cav killing the four defenders

At new Chehalis – rinse and repeat, this time with a cav army

@ Chehalis – A tougher nut since it was on a hill lose four cavs, but finally crack it.

Abandon New Cherokee and I don’t replace it. I stop for the night with all the worker turns and MM ahead of me.

To be continued…

Clear the decks boys, it looks like ol' Bugsy brought his A-game! :spank:

This is what it looks like when an AI starts turtling after you torch their capitol. ;)

@Bugs: where are we on the research cycle? If we are where I think we are, we might have to position our navy on the south end of Barbaria... and clear a few islands there before bringing the troop ships home to load up with Marines.

Though I realize it's probably early for that yet.

Keep up the good work Bugs.

Is that naval force still down south? Could we use it to bombard some of those southern cities and use TF Double Deuce to raise some hell? :mischief:

Once the saltpeter is disconnected, that's exactly what we'll do.

1450 (con’t) – Abandon Zapotec and replace with Leicester, 2SW. Flight is due in two turns.

1455 - @ New Apache – Bombard and kill the two defenders. Lose a cav.

@ New Zapotec – Our navy bombards nicely, our cavs come through and…

@ Lupaca 2 – Use the position south of New Chehalis to bombard the city and capture it with a cav army. Our combat railroad workers are paying for themselves in spades. Oh, they are all slaves, What a rate of return!

Sell off the infrastructure, abandon New Chehalis, and found Carlisle, 1SW.

@ Chinook – Use Naval bombard and artillery, lose two cavs, then take the city.

Sell off and abandon Chehelis. Kill two more Barb Cannon – only one left.

Set up for New Chinook next turn and start marching towards the west coast cities.

To be continued…
