SGOTM 11 Maintenance Thread

And a Neil no less......

I expect it has. I've already had to change several scripts to deal with your team name. I'll investigate.

Sorry you are having to do my testing for me, but right now, I'm up to my eyes in the most interesting UK general election in living memory. After polling day on Thursday, and catching up on sleep, I'll be able to give more attention to this activity.

[EDIT] Fixed - I think!

Election spoiler.
Spoiler :

I am informed that the Tories are heading for a landslide victory as Cleggs support is falling wayside after someone actually read his manifesto! (Landslide is determined as over 350 seats.)

Leader Spoiler
Spoiler :

As for Clegg. Good leader bad policies. Whoever gets in power the next 5 years will never see government again in 20 years!

I apolgise for this off topic message. :D

Election spoiler.
Finally a nice avatar. You look smarter with this one!

Then your team will lose to mine, but that's another question.

Actually what I see happening (from across the water) is:
Spoiler :
Clegg will beat Brown for second in the popular vote, but the Tories will form a minority government with his promised help. 2 weeks later this government collapses when the Lib Dems are asked to vote on any Tory proposal. This causes the Lib Dems to split into Liberals and Lib Unionists, except this time the Lib Unionists will be just a rump selection of a few MPs with no party support. A new election is forced with a Lib/Lab coalition in, but the damage is already done as the new Government is forced to adopt the policies of Milton Friedman and ruin the country permanently. Sorry

Our team will do it's best. We may not have any deity players on our team but we will certainly try to complete the game acheiving all conditions. We may not finish first but we will be improving our game through debate. People assume everyone is playing this game to win out right.

@ Brian Re the election.

Spoiler :

In Spoiler as off topic. We will see in 24-36 hours time. I really don't think a second election will help Lib dems as people might simply shun them. In most cases 2 parties will agree to a coalition on certain terms. Lib dems will want electoral reforms. Tories will want guarantees they will back them on other issues. Labour would sooner die than agree to electoral reforms as it would ruin their powerbase up north.

If labour get beaten to 2nd place in terms of seats or 2nd/3rd place vote wise Gordon Brown would probably step down anyway. The party would almost certainly demand it.

OK, I know I started it, but please can we keep this thread on topic now? I need players to be subscribed to it, and to read the game-related posts that appear here. Spam will not help that cause.

A Question. Hope it is right place to put it.

It is my turn to play save.
I download save, played a few turn, stop to discuss before continue to play.

If I upload save, do I need to download it again in order to continue or I can continue from my local save?

You can continue from your local save. Just make sure that you really do start from the same save that you uploaded. If ever in doubt, download. :)

This may sound like a silly warning call but close to 2 weeks off the halfway distance for this game.

I assume that the 4 month period is set in stone and teams that don't complete their games by August 23rd would simply not be put up for awards. Obviously Phoenix Rising will be doing its best to meet this deadline.

That's a correct assumption ...

The finish deadline is August 23 2010. If any team has not finished by this date they will be deemed to have retired, and will not be eligible for any awards.

When will you want us to start on our sagas, we'll have a special guest appearance by Lars Larsnephew.

To continue the tradition, i'm asking for the next game.
I know we have some 50 days to the deadline, but better plan in advance that let a hole like the one between the last and the current.

IMHO, an announcement few days before the end of the present and the usual 3-4 weeks to sign up and so on would be great.

I concur with BLubmuz.
It is important to Start the next SGOTM before ciV is released.

I'll start the process of asking for a game designer, but don't hold your breath.

I don't see why the SGOTM has to be started before Civ5 is released. If it is going to affect people's interest in, and time to play, the SGOTM, that will happen whatever the timing.

Lets not jump the gun before the current game is concluded. I see no harm looking for a map maker. Theres no need to start next SGOTM day after last one. I think the game moderator deserve a few weeks rest from us.

Civ 5 like any game will have bugs when it is first released. So adoption may not be too quick. The important thing is that the game is set up right and not rushed in to keep people happy. A well designed game is as important as actually taking part too. Winning is just a bonus.

All in all I think this debate should probably be left till after the game is finished. I didn't see any games posted as defeats on progress page. ;)

I don't know (or remember) if the issue was already reported, so:
In the progress and Results page, there's the option to select the start and the finish dates.
It works fine for the finish date, but no way to move the earliest date from the 4000 BC in the graphs.

I use Firefox (but also tried with IE) under Win XP.

The problem is that for the earliest dates the lines are all packed, so you can't see almost nothing.

Even in the remote case Civ5 will be bugless, the HoF crowd will need time to setup and test the HoF Mod for Civ5. We can probably run some GotM, but surely not a competition like this without that "cheat deterrent". So, i won't expect serious Civ5 competitions before the early 2011.

Anyway, better don't let too much grass grow under our feet before next SG.

And you'll never see such an info there. When the final save is uploaded, it won't be listed, in case of victory or defeat. All you can see is the second last save before the game end.

There is a full stop (period) after the End Date menu. The Start date only applies to the file list. I'll see if it is possible to make it apply to the graphs as well, but no promises.
