SGOTM 11 - One Short Straw

Hi Guys, it was fun playing with you (or mostly hanging out on your thread) for SGOTM11. But I was in waaaay over my head. Good luck on the next one - it looks fun!

Looks like it. No word from ungy in a looooong time, don't think he'll rejoin... Silu won't have time I expect and I had no word from ras either (didn't answer to mails too... doesn't look like wanted to see us win silver ;)).

Not to actually play, that's for sure. I'll probably be lurking and might chime in with techie stuff in case there happens to be need for such and there's no one more competent around to check things. :)

Looks like a fun variant, good luck to y'all in any case :]

You'll probably want to sign-up as a dedicated lurker or something then, as you're not allowed to post substantive stuff in a team's thread unless you're registered.

I'm pretty sure Ras won't be around. Mutineer? He just disappeared all of a sudden.
I have a feeling there will be dwindling numbers on all teams. Maybe a merger, if really needed?

Aw crap I ceep confusing ungy and mut, meant mutineer of course  Didn't look though like he liked us too much :p LTC got quite silent as well...

I think teams will be merged "according to fairness" by alan after the signup closes.

I don't think LC even has access to Civ these days.

@kossin,
Do you guys even have a team now? If it's down to just you and maybe another, we could probably merge. If you have 3-4, maybe we should both try recruiting further, in the interest of competition?

So far I think you're 2 or 3 or so... not sure if you guys joining us would be that fair... maybe we should split some players that have no team yet between us...

:mischief: Merger uh?

As interesting as that idea is, I think Alan will stop such a merger for antitrust reasons. Come on, letting the #1 and #2 teams from the last SGOTM merge? Even if we are both missing significant portions of our respective rosters, I just don't see that one flying :D

Udey1 is most likely not coming back to SGOTM activity.
dingding has more or less quit civving although he might lurk for all I know.

We're still waiting on Duckweed for an answer, so far we're 3 with 2 of us having much limited time.

So either we need some recruiting or a merger (or even dissolving if we can't achieve either).

Going to wait some more time in any case to see how things go ;)

Actually, I just returned to EU today.

I've never seen Alan interfere with any group of people forming a team. MW (aka LC primarily) always actively recruited before SGs. The motivation was to develop a team of reasonably like-minded players. Different teams have different mindsets. Lots of players just want to play turnsets without much analysis. It doesn't make sense to me to have 5 players who want to do MM have to play with someone who's just going to screw everything up by goofing around.

My goal in joining OSS last SG was to see what it was like to play with a different team and see if we could get gold. I went in assuming you guys were serious players and you were. For me it would be pointless otherwise.

If I were to play this SG, I'd like to play on a team that was prepared to GO FOR BROKE! Take some serious, but intelligent, chances. Lots of warring, along with some serious teching. Taking it to the limit is what's fun for me. I don't mind crapping out on a good gamble.

Quoted for sheer amount of truth. Anyone can play to play... trying out things and finding tricks is the fun part of the SGOTM - trying to push the game to the limit.

We were admittedly pretty conservative in our gameplay after the whole math bulb--CS bit. But we can let loose the dogs of war in this upcoming game :) So are you going to join us again LC? Your help (and fanatical MM love) was a great asset to our overall game and it'd be great to see you back.

Exactly my thinking as well, shyuhe! As you know I'm not really a peacemonger usually ;) (LC, see our current SG)

Just sign up :)
