Guys, this is simple.
We always proceed forward with the most recent save we have.
If that's the autosave that bcool now has, then bcool, you simply upload it and we move on.
1. SGs are played on the honor system. We at OSS are playing an honest game. Period. There's nothing for AlanH to adjudicate here. It's covered by the above principle. AlanH's role in this is to use the tools available to him to ensure all teams are doing the above.
2. When we somehow goof up, we also pm AlanH, so he can associate the data he gets from his tools with what happens to us as we compete and follow the honor code.
That's it. There's really no ambiguity here.
-------------
As for your misgivings, bcool, how do you think I felt after gifting Gandhi our third city? At least I could have gifted it to him without giving him the techs, right? But no, I had to go and gift him Galley City AND some techs with it...
I look at it this way and I encourage you to do something similar:
1. We're a team. We all contribute in a variety of ways. There's no way, imo, that I could have played this game, this well, to this point, by myself. I'm dead certain of that. So if you were to drop out now, that just weakens us as a team. As RL takes people away, we try to adjust, but it's certainly not preferable.
2. AlanH constantly discourages people from opening the game save because this can happen. But opening the game save, which we have collectively done probably about 5000 times so far, has eanabled us to get where we are. So, it turns out there are also some operating costs that go with those 5000 times. Fine. Our game is still better for having opened it up, right? So we move on.
Meanwhile, we try to learn how to minimize those costs, as MItchum recommended earlier, clicking on any unit to override the <enter> function. And by putting "REAL SAVE" notices at various places on the save.
