SGOTM 12 - One Short Straw

Things look fine.

Regarding research, I don't know that we need to run at non-binary research. I thought LC was suggesting to run 100% research/espionage whenever you can so that we never have a ton of gold on hand.

one minor point, I recall you saying something about chain irrigating north from Rheims toward Orleans. Keep in mind that this isn't necessary because the rice to the west of Orleans is already irrigated which can be spread from there instead.

Good luck!

GP Farm, I would finish the farm on the sugar, and cancel the sugar and iron deal with Gandhi. Maybe cancel gems to Gandhi too and renegotiate for his gold and iron again (to prevent Churchill from getting the iron.)

Bahamas, I would workshop over the fort and work the workshop rather than the engineer.

Those 2 Mao LB might attack the stack outside Guangzhou, that macemen only has 5/8 and they would have positive odds against it I think. Might want to upgrade the catapult to to drill II? seems a waste but might save it if they do attack that stack.

We're not at war right now. I doubt Mao has the courage to attack a large stack with a single unit anyway.

Bahamas: I was gonna stop the Eng for fish in 1t, I think (whatever gets Taj on the same schedule).

Binary research: not sure what we gain by it at this point, but ok.

I haven't done any significant testing, but my understanding is that beakers are lost to rounding, including prerequisite and piggyback beakers. Maybe it isn't that significant. If not, I sure could save a lot of monkeying around with the sliders in my GOTM games.

I know, it's just we're talking 1-2bpt lost to rounding out of 700bpt now. More relevant in the early game, when you're going at 12bpt, IMO. Especially if binary leads to us getting a critical tech like Steel 1t later, due to over-saving (that's certainly happened to me before). I'll go binary for now, though - we're still some turns away from Steel.

There are other reasons to monkey around with the slider, btw, esp. higher-level tech-parity situations and all...

PM'd. I guess we'll wait for them before reloading? Edit: they're both in Europe, so it won't be 'till tmr...

Before it crashed, I basically just rolled turn and dealt with the city pop-ups.

T182 - 1220 AD
Roosevelt completes S Paya and UoS
Churchill's GM disappeared

No. I keep forgetting to set my autosave interval to 1... Just did it now. :mischief:

I have a save from just before I hit Enter at the end of T181 - I always save at that point.

bbp, all you can do is play from your most recent save and play exactly as you did before the crash. Go ahead and do that.

It's good that you pm'ed AlanH, because he'll now be alert to that when examining our saves.

CHruchill's GM was close enough to Rheims to conduct the trade mission there. Watch for his gold to show up this turn or next. Let's hope and pray.

On binary research, klarius said that what bbp said is basically true. HE said here are even situations where 90% or 80% or whatever can get you more more beakers, I guess because of the rounding or something.

That's what I thought, but there was no gold in F4. Maybe next turn.

No cash or GM from Churchill. :(

Some shocking news in 1230 AD: St. Petersburg FIDL. Stalin got off his island. :goodjob:

Delaying Mao DOW by 1t after all. LC was right.

Keep an eye on CHurchill's cash anyway, who knows what happened with the GM.

We also need to keep an eye on Stalin. If he founds another city, then we want to gift him St Nick (or another ice ball) quickly, so we can steal Mil Sci eventually.

1250 AD save uploaded. Getting late, I don't wanna make any mistakes...

Chengdu captured at the loss of 4 Trebs and a cat. Roosevelt's SOD was lurking.

Spotted St Pete on an island S of Stalingrad, NE of Bermuda.

Made a ridiculous mistake. With 5 workers selected near Bananas/Gp, I went into sign mode and started typing. Somehow went out of sign mode and automated the workers. Anyway, need some farms in GP now.

Lyons was bombarded for a turn and down to 20%. It's size 1, so I think we can take 2t (it won't build any more units).

No sign of cash from Churchill.

Tech/ep is def. behind.

I can play a bit further tmr morning. Comments?

Well done on capturing Chengdu! Roosy's stack looks deadly. So deadly, in fact, that we might as well let him just capture Hangzhou. We can send our guys straight to Nanjing.

ANy particular reason we haven't switched to State Property?
