SGOTM 12 - Regular

Too bad too bad. You're missing out on a super-sized stress of a PtW GOTM now too. I'm not able to read the second thread yet, but I guess it's a lot of fun. Can't wait.

Anyway, when you decide you do need a PC in your life, you could get a better one than mine for about half that price. :p
Stick around on the thread though... well I'm assuming we still have a game going.

@ madviking, any progress? If you can't get the time to pick up again after the last strategy pit-stop, then submit the save and we'll move on to the next in the rota - socral?
We might have to move to a world of 24 hour gotits and (at most) 48 hour turnsets now.

Sad to hear that Tax. Thanks for the time you invested so far!
I guess computers even able to run Civ4 are not that expensive, but it's your decision.

BTW, I'd be ready (probably not today) to play!

What are you refering too? Can't find a thread here or in the Succession game registry.

Agree on picking up the pace, although I have been one of the culprits too.

Single player GOTM65 - deity Indian on large pangaea

Good news for me: It seems that the rumours of my PC's death were much exaggerated. Thanks to my flatmate's intervention it has risen phoenix-like from the ashes. Unfortunately for you guys this means I'll be able to play more turns when it gets round to me.

HE seems like the best option. Also let's get a collective move on. Madviking any news?

Good good, but have we persuaded you to get a new computer anyway? :bounce: Go on, you know you want to! Just think, sleek black casing :yumyum: flat panel monitor  a hard disk larger than the brain of Marvin the paranoid android...

I think we should set ourselves a deadline in waiting for Viking, and otherwise find somebody else to proceed from the last upload. Evene considering easter hiolidays he is now missing for several days anmd we need to get this thing finished.

Agree. But should we consult the moderators on this sort of thing?

I say we give him until the end of tomorrow. It has been ages and we are already too slow.

On the plus side - welcome back TaxPayer! :)

Has someone tried to contact him via PM?
Maybe he has notifications turned on and can be reached that way.

Well I've pm'd him to let him know I want the game moving again, so I'm shifting the baton on to you socral. Perhaps it was anyway madviking's intention to end the turnset here, and we have just misunderstood him: the 530bc upload is his just-got-a-leader turn.

So this is the current roster:

socralynnek - next up
Wardancer - on deck
PaperBeetle
TaxPayer'sMoney
Kulko
madviking - just played
archphoenix - :sheep: (skipping!)

And now would be an appropriate time to start enforcing a schedule - it goes like this: after submitting, the Just Played should post a roster check, dropping themselves to the bottom of the list (just above archphoenix). From that post, the Next Up has 24 hours to post a Skip or a Got It. If they don't show, then I'll throw it open to the team, first player to post a Got It plays.
And I'd like to see a save uploaded within 48 hours from the Got It, so skip if the roster has come around at a bad time for you.
Sound fair? Good luck team. :salute:

And some thoughts about the game...

- we can still trade with the Ottomans, and I have no idea how! Osman doesn't seem too upset about our no longer buying spices from him, so I guess everything worked out okay there.
- we have a turn of beakers invested in Invention. I have no idea what is the best tech to be working on right now, in this peculiar variant. Invention would allow us to upgrade our archers, and Leonardo would make disconnect/reconnecting cheaper. But that's a lot of shields to take away from military builds. Personally, I would switch research to Education. A well-prebuilt university would make back those beakers pretty quickly.
- should we bring Portugal into this war with the Inca? This strategy hasn't always worked out for us, and we are strong to Portugal, so maybe it isn't necessary. Anybody have any strong thoughts either way?

got it.

I will play in let's say 2 hours. Hope that's fine with everyone.

Looked into the save with CAII...I don't think it will help us bringing Portugal in besides having them at war with Inca itself. They can't get their units past the isthmus and once we can move there, the war is won.

I also vote for Education. Any other thoughts?

530 BC (0) - Move the leader in direction to Delhi.
Switch to Education. Move our stack with the army one step towards Chichen.

510 BC (1) - Rome has landed two units near Constantinople...
At least that will give us war happiness...
Tell them to remove their units, they declare.
Fight off their archer/spear combo.
Research set up to 90 %.
Hurry HE in Delhi.
Kill about 8-10 Incan units while only losing an archer.

Rush an archer in Bombay as I expect the Romans to land there soon too.

490 BC (2) - The Romans landed a stack near Bomby, a Legion and an archer.
Try my luck and attack with a veteran archer, he gets the Legion down to 1 hp but loses. the Legion gets promoted.
I can't get any other units there. I hope they don't raze it.
Kill a Roman galley.
Kill 4 Incan units.

Stop here. Upload the save. Should we gift Bombay to someone to make it razesafe?
Can continue hopefully tonight.

The screenshot shows there's still an archer in Bombay? Is this correct? If so couldn't it fend off the Roman attack?

It is a regular archer vs a stack of a 2hp legion and a 3 or 4 hp archer. Even if he'd win vs the Legion he could lose vs the archer. don't know, would be worth a try.

If he attacks which Roman unit will defend? The 2HP legion or the archer? If we attack and kill the archer, that leaves the legion to attack us which would probably win. If we attack and the legion defends and we beat it then I'd be confident of holding off the archer's attack.
