SGOTM 12 - tao

If we are looking to take France on eventually, we might want to rush some culture there so that we can peacefully evict them from their fort. Also if we are looking to hold it for a while and have some spare worker turns we can improve the fortress (can't remember what it's called).

It's the Persians that worry me more though...

Re tech gifting, I'd consider gifting all civs that are in the IA up to the same point. (We keep just AT and Electronics to buy other techs with?)

Update on who likes us or not:

Furious:
Korea (S)
French (Wool)
Annoyed:
Arabia (Furs)
Germany (S)
Iroqois (Furs)
Persia (S) (Gems)
Zulu
Russia (S)
Carthage (Furs)
Cautious:
No One
Polite:
Greece (S) (Furs)

I was going to see if we needed to pick off anyone who was annoyed with us, possibly gifting the captured cities to someone we wanted to be more friendly, but apart from Greece, nobody likes us!

Agreed on the research route, no point in going for RP now we've started the other branch, let the French research it for us.

Don't think we want to attack France at the moment either, apart from the Armies we have no advantage there, possibly reconsider when we get tanks and before they do. Let them keep researching. A few more choice wars to grow the Civs we do want to keep pally with may still be worth considering so that they will be able to help more with research as well as voting for us.

edit: rushing some culture in Bergen will decrease the flip risk as well as evicting the French from their fort.

I'm not making starving for science work - when I lose the pop I lose a few beakers and I don't gain the turn on the tech. What do I need to do to make that work??
Are you comparing prejected research time after the scientists have been reset or just the end of one turn with the start of the next?

57g -42gpt Sci 50% Refining 6 turns

Post turn set items:
-Suggest joining in workers to cities particularly now that we have RParts - they are a large part of the unit support cost problem.
-Germany has a good chunk of $ for peace (76g)

-F8 says at beginning of turnset culture
Paris 13653
France 19155
at the end of the turnset
Paris 14633
France 20483

-Korea and Iroquois have a little money.
-We can trade a tech yet for Persian gems, but wasn't sure if the group would approve. The happiness is not perfect, but the lux slider can stay at zero without gems.

We pay 117gpt unit cost plus 257 gpt building maintenance. :(

We can reduce unit costs by joining workers; OTOH we still need a lot of improvement done in the conquered areas and the homeland will need polution clean-up teams.

We still need to build more workers to join to our real power cities!!!

I will sell some improvements (barracks) in corrupt cities; units can be build in the core; remote cities can build artillery without barracks.

I will change some builds in former Korea, as university and factory will not be really effective.

I think it is best to make peace with Germany.

I don't know (yet?) which civ to attack next (if any).

How many factories do we have?We need just one or two as our goal is diplomatic victory, not spaceship (we need just one or two shield powerful cities with factories for UN prebuilding cities, this will save us some upkeep as we must pay 3gpt for one factory)

The weekend has started and I did my turns; sorry for the delay.

Initial production changes and micromanagement:

Join 3 native workers to Constantinople.
Cuzco stock exchange to police station and growth.
Osaka to artillery.
Delhi for growth.
Lisbon bank to police station.
Seoul factory to market
London, York get engineers
Barcelona to worker
Alesia to galleon
P'yongyang to galleon, worker and growth.
Bergen to worker.
Delhi to hospital
Rome to granary.
Madrid to worker
Entremont to explorer.

Disband some knights in England.

Sell barracks in York, P'yongyang, Washington, Osaka, Teotihuacan, Sumer, Ta-Tu, Karakorum, Lisbon, Seoul, Kyoto.

Make some minor trades and get Persian gems, 6g, wm for atomic. Donate ivory and silks.
Donate literature to Zulus.
Donate silks to Russia.
Donate 100g to Arabs; sell them physics for 103g, wm.
Donate 120g to Iroquois; sell banking for 137g, wm

Peace with Germany getting 3gpt, 76g, wm; donate spices and silks.

We now have 277g at -59gpt, refining in 5 instead of 6.

1: 1405: join 2 native workers to Tenochtitlan
trade maps

2: 1410: disband pike, mace in Lisbon

3: 1415: disband some more units
France has 34gpt, 60g, wm for electronics. Make deal, donate spices.

4: 1420: trades; mm

5: 1425: finish 5th stock exchange; switch Constantinople to Wall Street.
Learn refining, start steel. Do 1 0% research turn to get cash for future interest from Wall Street.
(Alternative: steel in 11 at 60%, +19gpt)

6: 1430: some trades; Iroquois give 7gpt, for astronomy

7: 1435: zzzzz

IBT Korea declares war on Persia

8: 1440: more joinings

9: 1445: zzzz

10: 1450: deals expire and we do new ones, especially;
Persia gives 20gpt, 22g, wm for refining; donate spices
Rusia gives 9gpt, 3g, wm for atomic; donate spices, incense
Greece: donate 120g; get everything back + 3gpt for atomic; donate spices

Summary:
Mostly peaceful; I did not start any new wars. But we have a far to big army just for peace: IMHO now is the time (we have rubber, France doesn't) to prepare our attack on the frogs due in 13 turns, when the deal last expires.

I pushed the population of our "productive" (more exact: scientific) cities and this should continue. Outer cities build workers and those are then joined. Do not join slaves: we get plenty of pollution and it needs to be cleaned.

I trade mostly maps each turn to impove relations, also some old techs with donate and get back method.

We now do 715bpt at 70% and +19gpt, compared to 461bpt at 50% and -42gpt at the beginning of this turn. Nice improvement. :)

PS: Foolish Koreans declared war on Persia. Let us hope they survive as we wanted to keep this scientific civ in the game. I sent 2 frigates to serve as observers.

just 4 more compulsory techs after steel then hopefully we get Fission with the free tech bonanza in the era change. France isn't needed much more for research and they won't vote for us so we need to take them out when we have the advantage. If they don't have rubber then that gives us until they trade for it, out next opportunity will be getting to tanks first. Lets see if we can do it once the 13 turns of deals are up.

RE: Korea - could we sign a ROP and block the landing sites? A worker or explorer on each of the 2 tiles should do it.

Good progress guys and things shaping up for UN.

However, I am very busy this week and will be on holiday from Friday for 8 days so I think I better skip my turn.

Furley - You OK to take the next turn ?

we must to keep this moving (i want to look at other team threads), i can play this now or tomorrow at any time. would you like to swap Furiey?

1450AD:
Sell few buildings, MM few cities for faster growth

1455AD: fight for better attitude towards us, reinforce positions in France continent
, shave off one turn of research

1460AD:increasing science, clearing pollution

1465AD:did something

1470AD:steel learned, MM for 25 minutes, hire 70 specialists, combustion in 6, 100% science, -8 gpt, 1000 gold in the bank. The game should be over in 23 turns( combustion 6, MP 5t, MT 5t, Flight 7)

1475AD:Korea barely survives Persian attack

1480AD:Korea destroyed and i could do nothing about it

1485AD:did nothing

1490AD:

1495AD:start palace in Cuzco (prebuild for UN), due in 18 turns (if we will be researching at the same rate as we are doing now 1113bpt at 100% science, we will reach Modern era in 18 turns exactly, 1 turn for Combustion, 5 for Mass Production and Motorizzed Transportation, 7 for Flight, 1+5+5+7=18)

Combustion comes in, start MP due in 5. Didn't trade for wool as someone wants to attack France, I'd say not worth bothering, the game will be over (probably) in 17 turns.
If we can research Flight one turn faster, in 6 turns, then speed up palace build by hiring few civ engineers or work one more mined mountain.
It will be hard to get Fission with trashed rep (no gpt trades). Start second prebuild somewhere in a city with 50spt when 10 turns from MA, it will help in case we didn't get Fission upon entering Modern Era. Fission costs 1120 beakers, we could research it in 10 turns, we'll see. Good luck
