SGOTM 12 - Team Zoe

So you guys don't want to MA the Mayans against Portugal and Inca? Inca will take their cities and Mayans will help go against Portugal. Should expedite the demise of Maya.

(I would still MA Korea vs. Portugal)

BTW our unit support cost is 0 atm so we can build more units.

I would start these MAs in a turn or two.

Nice work, Zerks - you just can't get the hang of the love and peace thing, can you? :mischief:
Hey I did not start any wars in my first turnset, and I did not start this one either. I am not even the one that came up with the name berzerksees. I am just an innocent victim

Wouldn't an inca-maya war be better served if the mayas lost their stack of doom in the mail somewhere, behind a choke point? This would mean no slaves, mind you, but Portugal can get worked up for that.

What about declare on portugal, ally maya/korea, wait a few turns, close the choke, ally maya against inca, reap Portugal, then see what happens with the natives?

:hmm: Diplomacy...

I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
^ What she said.

I could close the choke on Maya, but I am afraid they will get steamrolled by the Inca. Then the Inca will be sitting there with 4 cities and able to support even more units. It might create a bigger problem than its worth. Choke close now will cost at least one AC to hold the choke - and I want every man to help ensure swift demise of Portugal.

Here is the save if you want to take a look http://gotm.civfanatics.net/saves/sgotm12/Team_Zoe_SG012_BC0630_01.SAV

Here's what I think ThERat and I were thinking.
1. When units are healed MA Korea vs. Portugal. Let them hit each other for a turn or two and look for leader fishing opportunities.
2. Let the Mayans go home (say 5-6 turns) and then MA Maya against Inca. Again let them smash each other up while we're capturing the Portugese cities. If the Mayans take them great (our MA is over). If they don't take cities we'll take them and finish off the Mayans afterwards.

The only problem I see with MA'ing Maya against Portugal is we would eventually need two fronts. One ex Portugal with Mayans coming at us and second the choke. I'd rather close the door with all their units on the other side of the choke and have them hitting the Incans.

Does that make sense?

Setting up clean frontlines makes sense, yes. And then we can start worrying about korea and ottoman expanding later, in 20 turns or so.

Two fronts vs Maya you mean? Maybe, maybe not. If we knock out Portugal in 5-8 turns, and the Maya are defeated by the Inca all their units go poof and all we have to do is go after the Inca. If Inca fail then we have two fronts vs Maya after our MA with Maya vs. Inca is over. Maybe by then we'll also own Korea, and we'll have more units to work with.

I guess my problem with that is relying on the AI to actually defeat another AI and with all those units that go poof go some of the free labor (enslavement) opportunities with it.

I guess whether it's the Incans or the Mayans that we MA with (against the other) I'd prefer to fight them on one side (especially of a choke) instead of two.

OK so Korea MA with us vs Portugal in a turn or two
Mayans and Inca start a war once the Maya are on the other side of the choke. If we join Maya it could be in a turn or two - a fake war against Inca to get them to kill each other.
We go all out vs Portugal. After most Mayan units go home, put unit(s) in the choke to stop them from returning.

Whoever is next will have to finish the Portugal job and then decide if we do Korea next.

Portugal is gassed methinks and I want to war with them ASAP. I guess I will be starting a war after all - maybe not just an innocent victim :mischief:

Plan?

I think that makes sense. Speak up now if you think that plan is crazy.

Ref: Korea I'd hold off till we know whether we need them around for their scientific benefits.

I'm a little confused as to how you intend to get Maya and Inca in to a war;
and I really hope your plan involves not fighting that big stack of Javelins.

MA Maya on our side, let them gas themselves and generate slaves by fighting on their border with the Incans. We sail in after the Ports are gone and take the Incans cities from our water landings.

Great work! :goodjob:
Please count it as got it, I will be able to thing about everything in this thread and play tomorrow :)
Whoa Nelly. Wait till Zerksees is finished. He's only through 6 turns.

When I look at the map it tells me that fighting the Ports is logical. If we MA with anyone it would be Korea. If one gets the upperhand then it's a win win.
Because if Portugese are able to fight off the Koreans then we're taking the initiative on the other front. If Korea gets the upperhand and somehow got a city then a scientific expands. Whether they stay on the continent is something we can decide after Mayans, Incans and Ports are gone.

Then there's the south. Again if either one gets the upperhand it's a win win again because they're gassed and we simply mop up the winner.

Honestly, I'd be surprised if we couldn't take all three in less than 20 turns. Too optimistic?

I thought of something similar that happened to me in another game that was crowded.

If you look at the Mayan troops, they probably have all their troops out in the open, so their towns must be probably not so full (3-4 spears). So, why not take on the Mayans now that they troops are out in the open and not home?

wow a lot of discussion and some confusion.

So, I hope we are all on the same track and smart knows what we are thinking about. This game we got a good shot at doing very well, let's not mess that up.

I am not too sure why we would want to fight Korea for now. They are scientific and we need them for our IA slingshot. Their land isn't very attractive. I'd rather take Ottoman then. Anyway, for the next 2 turn sets, I guess, we will be busy taking out Portugal/Inca/Maya.

I would go after Egypt after that, Thebes looks great with gems. Here, we could make use of the same tactic of MA's. Clearing out Egypt/Hittites/Netherlands. Leaving some land for Babs/Persia.

edit:
@ansar. At the moment, our tactics evolve around having few units to keep unit cost down. We can't afford to fight a long drawn out war just to kill many units. WW is existent in feudalism as well. Our wars should be fast and furious gaining us more cities.

No, not kill those units. I meant, since all those units are out in the open, their cities probably dont have much defense, therefore, being easy to take the cities and eliminate the units (when the civ is eliminated).
