SGOTM 12 - Team Zoe

whomp, I guess this slingshot only works if you research the last needed tech of that age yourself. As it is, we only need currency and construction. Maybe this is another argument to try and get construction fast. We should be able to get currency via trades. The only problem I see with a second tier freebie is feudalism. Is that tech still that expensive though we are all feudals already?

Good point. I think that makes research on construction that much more important since we can always get lit after we hit the new age.

This rings the question to me: how are we going to trade for say, engineering, then? If we have no surplus AA tech, aren't we condemned to pay full price? Maybe once all 7 sci rivals have their techs, we can get large enough discounts...

I am fairly sure the slignshot will work if you remember to do it when the "we have entered the next age" screen comes up, no matter when that is. It could be in the middle of your turn when you acquire the last tech of the AA. Just select what's the big picture and trade for all the techs you can.
Can anyone refute this?

In theory we could trade for 4-5 middle age techs and get something pretty far up the tree, particularly if we give them a little time to run ahead.

I've tried it while in the middle of a tech trade round and never seem to get it to work, so as far as I know, it has to be done upon research of construction et al.

lurker's comment: I'm a lurker and I'm ok. I sleep all night and I work all day.

Yes. Popping from a hut works, researching the last tech yourself works, getting the last tech as a trade will give you the freebie without the chance to use the big picture screen.

I don't think it will be possible to get a tier 2 freebie. If we go max on construction, we will not be able to afford to buy a tier 1 tech, and we'll likely be trading into the MA anyway. If we go max on lit, we'll trade our way into the MA. If we go max on lit, trade for currency, construction, polytheism and code, and research MM ourselves, we will have the chance to get a tier 2, but it relies on literature still having good value. I think that third option might be the way to go. Max on lit, and see what trades are out there for us when we get it. Either trade our way into the MA immediately, pick up the other 2 tier 1's, and start towards Navigation, or trade for all but 1 AA tech, research that one ourselves, and cross our fingers. I think we want lit quickly for a library in the capital, and for the chance to expand borders in Aztec land.

I like Sanabas plan

I'll agree to literature. I don't like max science but I'll go along with it since each AI has only two cities and it seems likely it will have some value. Is this a concensus yet?

We should build our swords first (before Dromons) so we can trade away our iron if need be. That sould be good for all or part of a tech. I am guessing the AI will value that highly no matter how many cities you have.

Go with lit. Sanabas' plan is well thought and makes sense.

At 80% science we can finish literature or code of laws in 19 turns, currency would be 29, construction would be 37. BTW this would be -16 gpt.

With another unit for MP maybe we can cut lux to 10%, or convert a citizen to scientist to help speed that up some.

Then I'd go for literature with this plan.

We don't need to grow at the moment, so if you can hire a scientist, decrease lux rate and increase total science output while maintaining a shield per turn number that has minimal wastage, we should. Building swords/dromons, if we can't reach 15 spt, adjust it to non-starvation, 10 spt, max beakers.

literature seems to be the consensus then

Aha! That's sounding very healthy!!! :D

This is the best configuration that I can come up with; it gives us Literature in 13 turns at a neg 16gpt, plus two turn swords. Is this optimum or can anyone improve on this?

Spoiler :

Edit: The irrigated grassland to the NW is being mined; I will need to stop it or this configuration will no longer be viable. Is that acceptable?

Looks good. The forested elephant 2 NW of the zoo is 1 food, 2 shield, 3 commerce, yeah? If so, optimum is to swap between the 1/4/1 iron and the 1/2/3 elephant every 2nd turn. That will let us alternate between 14 & 16 shields, for no shield wastage, and produce an extra 1 commerce per turn.

Feudalism allows 3 MP? If so, as soon as we build our next sword after the harbour, or if we trade for a lux, we should be able to increase research to 100% with the extra happy face.

Abandoning the mine for now is definitely the way to go.
