SGOTM 12 - Team Zoe

Our capital will need a library and uni. See what happens with other cities. I'd likely give most of them a library anyway, as it's the cheapest culture building we have.

I didn't see a save but noticed it's up on the SGOTM results. ThERat are you finishing the last turn or should Smart pick up? Smart are you there?

Roster:
Beorn --got it rolling
ThERat-- met bunch of civs and gave us a nice lead
Smart --Still there?
Sanabas --Needs to find that dang disc
Zerksees--
Bucephalus --
Whomp--

I played 9, so smart can take over from there..I usually post my SGOTM posts there and do not link them, sorry about that.

I agree on switching to a rax and then start churning out swords. The workers will finish mining the grass tile (smart, 3 are mining use the 4th to start to road the iron) and can help connect the iron pretty fast.

The link is in my sig, so I'll just kep spamming in order for everyone to have easy access ;)

About suicide runs, I think so far we haven't had any passage that wasn't crossable without taking a chance. It's great that it turned out like it did, but I think we should keep all our boatsies up and rolling to scout as much map as possible.

lurker's comment: I was looking for this thread, and couldn't find "Team Zoo", yet I kept wondering who was this "Team Zoe".... :spank: :shake:

Seems like you guys are off to a great start! Keep it up! (especially the pictures, they're very nice - especially with the different variety of graphics :cooool:)

Yeah I'm here, now reading this thread :)
Count it as a got it, I'll post some thoughts and play today.

Pre-turn: Two civs are building Pyramids, we can build Oracle also, but it's even shorter then first prebuild. I agree that we need to switch prebuild now. Granary will give us 80 free food till we will grow to 12 size, but it costs 60 shields and 1 gpt forever. We can build Barraks after SoZ, now it will be a waste of gold for maintence. So I switched to temple to lower lux slider.
Also it would be better if one citizen was on grass instead of forest during the last turn, now we have 9 fpt and I can't correct this before city will grow. We need to maintain 10 fpt if it's possible to avoid waste of food. Everything else looks good, hit enter.

Turn 3 - 2470 BC: Temple is built, started barraks, chopped ivory with all workers in one turn. Will irrigate it, with minned iron hill we will be able to run at 10 spt till size 10. Can't lower lux slider even with temple, but on growth to size 8 it will help us.

IBT: Good and bad news - Persians have build Pyramids and wonders cascaded to Oracle, so we have no prebuild now. But we haven't wasted any shields because we switched it already.

Turn 5 - 2390 BC: Met Sumeria, they have nothing to trade.
Met France and Scandinavia, they have Mathematics! Traded it for 275 gold and 4 gpt with France, they have better deal.
Nobody else have math, and those two civs haven't ivory. There are no civs who are building any Wonders. I could trade math around and get ~250 gold, but I don't know who knows each other, and there are several civs with ivory, so I decided to stop trading here.

Turn 6 - 2350 BC: SoZ in 17 turns, workers finished irrigation, I'll mine and road iron hill now.

Turn 7 - 2310 BC: 3 civs now knows Writing, it's too expensive now, I'll wait till it will be traded between each others.

Turn 10 - 2190 BC: Iron Hill is mined, I sent one worker to road Incense - it have nothing to do anyway and our borders will be expanded in 7 turns. Met England, they have nothing to offer. Collected 122 gold by selling HBR to 3 civs, it's known by everybody anyway.

Turn 11 - 2150 BC: Played one more turn to make turncount rounded - it's turn 40 in game now

good choice to swap the prebuild since the cascade fell. I hope we can get SoZ. Then we can build up our military and go after the AI next to us.

As for the workers, once the incense is roaded we can connect the wine with a colony. Will help the happy situation a lot. And we can always use the 3 workers to cut down the jungle in the end, once they have nothing do. I guess we want to mine some tiles once we have grown fully.

Do we want to purchase writing? And where do we head after that? MM I guess?

Nice set Smart! I think we're in real good shape with SoZ. This has the potential to be a big difference maker along with cats and dromons. We definitely need to head towards MM since we need to start taking the Aztecs and Japanese. We should also review our trade routes before any war is started. Since both have ivory colonizing the grapes and incense will be really important to reduce our lux.

lurker's comment: Looks promising! Soon the Aztecs will know pain

Nice going there :hatsoff:
At size 12, we are sure to get a semi-useless tile until we can clear the jungles, so with the lake at size 10, we can still max out 10 fpt and get to our "optimal" size 11 in timely fashion.
Good timing on the incense too. I'm all for connecting the wines right now if we plan on keeping clear from phony wars with people we don't drop on.

Phony wars outside of actual military targets would hurt the tech rate and our international relations, which are the 2 things we need to win diplo fast.

We need to purchase writing and MM, since we can't pop swords out forever withou making the boats to do the do. We have an outbound GPT deal now, so I think that to research towards anything would be a shaky move, even towards literature. Once literature is out though, I'd make it a point to see to it that everybody gets his own piece of books.

Reading that sentence caused some temporary heart failure. Good choice to keep it to ourselves.

We're ~11 turns from writing, yeah? I don't think it's worth paying full, unresearched price for it. Better to finish it ourselves, and then decide on trying for philo or going straight to Map Making. If CoL isn't out when we get writing, I think we take the gamble for philosophy. Great if we get it, and if we don't, we should still have plenty of opportunity to trade it for MM, CoL, maybe other stuff as well.

I'm still stuck on no civ. The conquests disc is sitting on my desk, but is no good without the civ3 disc. Other alternative is to haul the old box out of the garage and connect it back up solely for this game. It's very tempting. But better to skip me for this round.

Sorry for that

And about Writing - I don't think that trade is possible now, they wanted almost all our gold and gpt, so after doing that we will not be able to do anything except lone-scientist research.
With all luxes connected and additional mp's (now we have only one...) we will have nice income at size 10-12, after researching Writing we can trade it around and just wait till somebody will learn MM and other techs for us.

That roading worker can make colony on wines immediatly - workers don't have so much things to do, almost all tiles are improved. We must clean only one jungle to have 12 free tiles and I think that we can keep the last forest - food will not be a problem when we will reach size 12, and chop and mine just gains one more food, which will be useless soon. We can road that forest and then clean jungles. After growth to size 12 we must reimprove our lend - from irrigation to mines.

Not trading but researching writing is a good idea. We won't make any ground breaking amount of unit that we are at the point where we need dromons by then. That's what, 2 to 4 turns after we complete SoZ? Make that 2 swords and we're good to go.

We will obviously not get philo first though, since writing is out. I would estimate 10-15 turns max after they research writing, they'll have philo. That leaves us 5 turns :crazyeye:

Literature might still be there but I don't think we need it - we agreed no research will be more profitable, right? So it wouldn't be needed, we would risk not making much profit out of it if it is researched by an AI and it diverts gold from our military funds into this project. I call this a white elephant.

If anything, I'd give a run at currency.

I agree this game all we need are markets, banks etc. Research will be futile for the near future anyway.

Finish SoZ, get a rax and then churn out military for the first conquest.

Got it.

Since I'll be building SoZ most of the time, there is not much to plan. Will colonize grapes and once we reach full size will modify tiles as appropriate.

After SoZ I'll build a sword or two.

Will try to get some other techs so we have something else to build if we lose this race.

After writing is done, when do we start putting up embassies, and where? I suppose Japan would be a good choice since we are going to join them vs. Aztecs in due time - right?

I think I'd buid a rax before swords. We want those AC's to be vet. I would put up embassies in Japan and Azteca. Those will be the cities we will want for corruption purposes.

Definitely rax after SoZ. Zerksees should probably play an 11 or 12 turn set, until we actually get writing, so we can see what else is out there, and work out what to get next.

We already do have a barrack btw.
