SGOTM 15 - Unusual Suspects

Green light from me to play until Agri is done. But wouldn't it be safer to have warrior Lotus keep to the forests for the first 2 turns, rather than move straight south? Petty detail...

I think sending Lotus south to follow the coast sounds reasonable. From looking at the screenshots, I don't think we'd get anymore visibility by going straight south than 1 SW > 1 SE, but I'm fine with either.

The mini turnset Chris suggested gets the green light from me.

I think we need to know where the copper is. We also need to chop trees. I think bronze working is more important than pasturing the sheep. If REX is our goal, we need to chop out settlers and more workers. And at worst, the worker can mine the gold while we wait for animal husbandry to come in. I still vote Agriculture -> Bronze Working -> Animal Husbandry.
AH reveals horses.
A river grass sheep gives 5F2C, how can you pass up on that? If it's hammers you want then consider the fact that the city will grow to size 4 quickly and can then 2-pop whip workers. Getting power tiles like this up early is what fuels a good REX. And yes, I want to pasture sheep before mining the gold.

If nobody agrees with AH then I will have to try to prove it with test games, but the decision doesn't have to be made for this mini set of turns so I don't mind playing on.

Reason for late oracle = Aggressive AI -- they prioritize wonders less. I'd definitely like to get CS or something similar with the Oracle here.

But of course; before we start thinking about what to take with Oracle we need to brainstorm and decide which VC to go for. Playing jack-of-all-trades with VC does not result in a good finish date. Need to come up with a red line and deduce something from the settings.

I will put my thinking cap on.

Even with horses we can't build chariots until we have The Wheel. With BW, we can build axes right away. But... for either axes or chariots we need to have the resource hooked up--unless it's on a river we'll need The Wheel regardless. It would be nice to know where both resources are before settling but we'll only have one in time for our first settler. So, yes, lots to think about. I like the procrastination ploy--let's play to Agri and then think some more.

Good point about Aggressive AI being stupider, Rusten.

I'm thinking AH too. Its a good move when you already have a pasture resource you want to improve. I think last game we got a slower start than some of the other teams because we didn't prioritize pasture the sheep (went cow instead) iirc.

Thanks for the reminder about Aggr AI. That does change what our ambitions should be for Oracle. But I agree it would be good to come up with a plan "A" and maybe even a plan "B" before we get to that point.

I agree with Mini-set to Agri being green.

Fifth Element, Maple Sporks, One Short Straw and I believe also Misfit Gypsy Nuts all settled on turn 0 (4000 BC). Unusual Suspects and Kakumeika settled on turn 1 (3960 BC). Phoenix Rising, Plastic Ducks and Xteam haven't uploaded saves yet.

Interesting that four teams decided settling on turn 0 is optimal.

Not looked at the graph, but assuming you're right they're probably settled 1E, which is reasonable.

I believe I'm ready to go. I've changed the Auto Save to one, and I have tested the Buffy log system and it seems to work. However I'm unsure of who or how the CivFanatics log is created? Is it automatically created by the web site when I upload the game and then I retrieve it somewhere or do I create it somehow?

You will get it when you upload the save after playing. No need to do anything on your end other than copying it over to a post.

Is it automatically created by the web site when I upload the game?

Yes. After you upload the file, a page will appear saying "the file was uploaded successfully, here is a link to it" and on that page will appear the CivFanatics log. You just copy the text that is displayed on the web page and paste it into the forum.

Good luck!

OK one last check. I follow the PPP, save every turn, stop and post if anything remarkable happens, but otherwise run until Agri is completed.

Then someone else carries the ball :yeah:.

Can we tell if anyone went worker first?

Anybody there, first move of my first warrior something weird happened.
Go figure:rolleyes:

Ran into Hammurabi-Toku evil mix
