SGOTM 16 - Misfit Gypsy Nuts

Can't we settle the GE? He can help build military, and aid with a future AP build.

I still prefer the bulb. Having a couple of XBows is likely to save us a few units when we get attacked. They might even deter an attack letting our cats do all the damage on city attacks. I do think with our lack of cities quality of units will count as well as numbers.

Machinery will also help with optics/meet the other AI. The sooner we can do that the more options we might have for trade etc. With our current research rate it will take along time to self tech.

I'm for settling the GE. I know we need to get contact with the other civs, but I think the long term return when settling the GE, will be more worth in this long game.

Let me get this right.

In favour of bulbing: Tim, C63, Sleepless.

In favour of settling: AJ, Oz, McA.

Ron- you say "bulbing... not a terrible option". Not contrasted with settling. Pretty non-committal.

I suggest the active player decides. That would be Timmy.

OK, I will be bulbing. Thanks for forging sort-of agreement :) Sorry, been a crazy weekend so far, turns will be done tomorrow morning Pacific time.

Time difference think that means I can read about it this evening... :)

Good luck Timmy827

Regarding the GE, I would normally do some kind of long term benefit analysis.

Machinery = ~1100:science: -VS- 2:hammers:/t * estimated turns left + other long term benefits.

I usually guess about how many turns may be left, and look at immediate needs also.

My gut says settling is better "value", however, X-Bows + Optics road is important now.

I guess I don't really have a preference, playing solo, I would probably settle.

On a different note, I have been play testing with mounted units. Flanking II rocks! I really think there is something wrong with the way combat odds are figured when there are high withdrawal chances. I think it also carries over in some respect to Drill III.

Very sorry but I need to back out. Basically have too much going on in real life; I'm finding it hard to get time to concentrate on something like a SGOTM turnset where I want to execute perfectly. And I don't want to stress out about screwing up something that the rest of the team has put considerable time into.

So, I hope to stay on and provide some discussion but am not going to play, at least not anytime soon. Next turns can go back to Ozbenno or onwards to Ronnie. Again, sorry I'm flaking out.

Sorry to hear that timmy827 but any comments/advice would be welcome and I'm sure I and the rest of the team would be happy for you to jump in the roster again at a later date.

Looks like Ronnie1 is up then.

I think I know just what you mean...

There have been a few changes to the turn order. I've reorganised things as below. Let me know if anything should be switched.

The turn set roster order is...
Players
1) Ronnie1
2) Ozbenno Just Played
3) Conquistador63 Up Now
4) McArine On Deck
5) Sleepless

Team Advisors
6) adrianj
7) timmy827

Hoping for his glorious return
8) Grifftavian

Welcome to your BtS SGOTM 16 Team Thread.
(snip)
Good luck, and have fun. Remember, it's just a GAME! :mischief:

To be honest, I think we are neither doing very well in this game, nor getting much fun out of it. Three players have already dropped from the active roster, and gamewise we are very backwards comparing to the average single player game I use to play in this same difficulty settings, but that might be partly due to the land not being brilliant.

I mention that not because I want to be whining, but just to emphasize that, at this point, if we still hope to get some fun out of this game, we should forget about laurels and get things moving, even if at the price of not optimizing our play.

With that in mind, I think it is reasonable to say that after I manage to re-read the last few pages of this thread, I might be able to post a PPP over the next few days. :)

Mmm certainly things we could have done better but things in game haven't gone great for us either. i.e The GE for the Mids if we had got him instead of the prophet. The need to steal IW rather than trade or self tech etc.

If the war goes quickly against Brennus I think we will be right back in it so to me this is the crucial part of the game coming up. How quick we can get a decent army up and how well we plan it plus how kind the good old rng is.. ;)

I ....:agree:

Mmm just noticed the game ends on the 21st January which seems a long way away but isn't really so do need to get a little bit of a move on. ;)

Would the PPP outlined in the post #553 and the comments in the posts 554 & 555 suffice or do I need to write it down with more detail? Hate to admit but I feeling a bit lazy about that...
