SGOTM 16 - Misfit Gypsy Nuts

It seems every SGOTM there is inevitably some debate about what the best Super-Medic is. ;) Medic I + III is 25% Ron, the same as Medic I + Woody III. At least that's what my reference doc shows me. I prefer the chariot to be the medic because a) it can move faster, so can catch up to the front line after holding back with injured troops, and b) it's less like likely to be picked out as the defender when in a stack. (also c) requires less promos)

I agree with Ron that we shouldn't delay Currency by too much. It's not the trade routes so much as the ability to build Wealth that will keep our units from striking.

I don't follow the logic of setting research to CoL. Is the plan to get the rest of Currency through a peace deal? Is our tech pace so slow that it makes no difference to how soon we get Currency even if we switch away from it? Or do you mean to do this after Currency and I just read it wrong?

Regarding the wine near Cuman - try to be 'non-threatening' until it's complete, else the workers will run away.

Specifically which cities are we keeping and which are we razing? Sounds like we are keeping most if not all of them, though what was the plan for Cuman?

Whip a market in Bibracte as soon as practicable.
 
I'll get currency in the next few turns for certain. As I'm likely going to build wealth somewhere. Assign tiles etc to avoid going broke I think getting some units out now so they can reach the front is a better idea. As we are burning money a civic change to OR wouldn't hurt either along the way. ;)

Amount of units. C63 didn't find that many units and from what we can see now he is def lacking so just wondering if he has any around. As we are going to carry on straight to Ram (I hope) the cats shouldn't go to waste but we do seem to be lacking a few melee units to actually take cities.

CoL after currency. def currency first and I will make sure we have no chance of losing troops by striking. Though with my luck in this game not promising what the RNG will do. ;) Ronnie1 asked what we would do after currency so I favour CoL - Optics.

I was going to check on the wine tile though won't give us the happiness benefit until we have monarchy. Being a size 9 city I would keep it now. There is 1 city to the west of Bibracte which doesn't seem to have much at all though there might be a fish in the fog? I would keep all the rest.

Another thought it might be an idea to build the Palace in Bibracte and the FP in Egypt but that will be for later on. With the need to have 3 corps it would seem a waste to run SP later on.

The good thing with OR is all our cities will have the prod bonus for buildings though I'll keep us on theocracy for the time being. Its just an option if things get really bad.

As mentioned we can get currency this turn by burning all our cash. With the slow movement speed I'd rather wait a couple of turns to get units out first then use building research to get us currency than use our cash reserves. So should have currency in 4 turns.
 
Cities to keep. Looking at the pics I would keep all the cities bar Dunrovia. As mentioned earlier it doesn't look like it has a food tile (though might be a fish in the fog) and certainly no production. Personally I would leave him this city for 10 turns and grab monarchy for a peace treaty. That will be for the next turnset though.

Doh! My ignorance rears its ugly head again.:sad: I guess I am so used to Woody III Medics because I almost always have a well promoted Woody II Warrior begging for a free upgrade.;)

Medic III Chariot is fine by me.

Durnovaria has 2 riverside grass tiles, Verlamion has only 1 resource (silk) that is not in another cities BFC, and only 1 flat grass tile that is shared with the barb city. The question is, are we going to fill those spaces with cities eventually? If so, why burn them now?

I am in favor of extorting techs for peace when he is fully crippled.

Some thoughts/comments.

Our GG has been born. Currently 1SE of Tolosa ready to attach to a chariot next turn.

I still like the idea of leaving him Dunrovia for 10 turns and extorting techs. Have known them not give up techs so if that ends up being the case should just kill him off. :) Our troops are a bit fragmented but we have enough to take his remainder cities for certain once we get a bit of healing and regrouping.

We have some cash in the bank. I did sell Alpha to Ram for 220g early on. Thought the money was more important than the tech at the time. We now have enough to get CoL @100% with a few gold left in the bank. Will get some more with the rest of Brennus's cities.

City builds. Have put most cities on markets then should go for courthouses. I do think a change to OR this turn makes sense now. We will be doing a lot of building and very few units.

We do have a galley/tireme near Cuman. There is a sword/xbow on the galley which should land on the island in readiness for the settler from Orleans. Not knowing how many barbs are there I think we did need a couple of strong units rather than just a settler and city defender. There is an archer heading that way for CG purposes on the island as well. We should try and map that island asap and settle another city there as well to give all our cities foreign trade routes.

Note Brennus has a few units around Tolosa though shouldn't cause us any problems.
 
So Ronnie1 is up though don't mind playing a few more turns... ;)

Some more thoughts and what I was planning.

Certainly have enough units for Vienne and Georgovia. Have started moving a few units to the sugar city from the South there are a couple of units coming from Cuman and a couple more when they have healed. An archer is heading towards Cuman for CG. Would use either that or the one coming from the East. The plan for the worker on the hill was to road towards sugar city. Could then mine gems for that city. Suitably protected that is. :)

Burgundian looks a nice food rich city as well on the way to Ram. From the info screen seems we are a lot stronger than him.. :) Could do with roading that way as well. I was hoping to get some workers from Brennus but none so far. :(

Civics def think a change to Org Rel this turn would pay off.

City builds. I've started a market in Paris but think we should change to try and build the AP here. Bibracte if we get Christainity there and build the temples can run 6 priests. Shouldn't take to long that way to get our second shrine and with Rams conf shrine tick off another of our boxes.

Must admit I'm not keen on cottages (sure I've mentioned it before :lol:). We don't have a lot of riverlands for cottages so would rather see farms/mines/workshops/watermills etc than non riverside cottages.

Did experiment a little bit by building wealth in all cities we could get CoL in 3 turns saving about 230 gold over. Running 0% science and wealth in cities gave us about +8gold per turn so we won't go broke yet. :)

I am a bit confused by the Market builds? They cost 150:hammers:, they provide 1:) (currently) more with additional resources some day, + 25%:gold:(very little with low commerce).

Temples only cost 80:hammers:, Colosseums only cost 40:hammers:. :confused:

Simplified PPP....

Finish killing off Brennus and/or extort techs for peace after mostly killing off Brennus.

He will currently give Monarchy + HBR + 50gold.

Consolidate economy and gather troops for impending invasion of Ramesses.

@Ronnie1 its not just the 1 happy its the ability to run merchants and the 25%extra gold as we will be running a very low slider for the foreseeable future. They are quite hefty builds so whipping away our unhappy citizens atm doesn't hurt so much. Not sure how many hammers are invested in them but certainly not many. Would be helped by OR as well. Like all the buildings.

Do think Paris should be changed for the AP build and pinch some hills back.

Brennus has been willing to give up everything for the last few turns. Unless he will give all his techs I would just finish him off. Noticed a few times once you have left an AI with 1 crappy city they won't give anything for peace.
 
I think the market builds aren't so bad. Our slider will be at 50% or less for quite a long time, making the +25% gold good value in our cottaged core cities.

I played.

Mostly good, some little things not so great.

I traded Currency to Ramesses for Monarchy so we could run HR for some of the happy problems.

Battles were mostly walkovers, but Brennus planted the western dot before I could take Duroctorum. It is right where we want it, so I peaced him for HBR.

Ramesses built the AP about 6 turns into the set. :( At least it is on our continent. He has LB's also. :(
