SGOTM 16 - U'nu'sual S'us'pec'ts

Yes, that was what my last post said before I deleted it.

edit: in slightly less polite words.... :D

Alrighty Neil, here's what we've got:

I think 4 maces and 3 trebs will be more than sufficient. Should we spend zero, one, or two turns bombarding?

Hmmm, there isn't much there, that's for sure.
I don't know what to do. :dunno:

I think we have to factor in 2 whipped LB's, that's what happened when I moved on Camel Town.
So, with 3 LB's, a GW and an Archer defending, that calls for at least 1 suicide cat, to wear down 2 or 3 LB's just enough to make the Treb odds very favourable.

As the cats have only just returned from Camel Town, this means waiting until next turn. The bonus of this is that we see what the Brennus SoD is doing and what our borders around Bibracte look like.

What's Brennus' stack going to do?
Where is it going?
If we make a move on Vienne and threaten it, will the stack move to defend Vienne?

edit: in any event, 1 turn bombard with 3 trebs and some cats will reduce it to 0%. Definitely worth it IMO.

edit 2: sorry I'm not more gung-ho, but the SoD is probably the main concern right now.

edit 3: sorry for continually second guessing myself :p

OK, after going back-and-forth, I believe we should wait 1 more turn before making a decision regarding the stack and/or Vienne.

I am happy with the city builds and the workers, so its a green from me to continue.
I trust your judgement for what happens next turn.

Neil, I don't think we should go back and forth. Assuming we leave with 4 maces and 3 trebs here is what we've got:

Test Brennus was a little dumb, but his units are the same.

Our units:

So if you're worried about the stack going to support Vienne if we leave for it, that's one thing. But if you're worried about losing to his stack, don't be.

Edit: Granted, things can always go different (wrong) in the real game. But I'm pretty comfortable with the units we have there, even if we take the city raider maces and the trebs to go attack Vienne.

I'm back online now, had to pick up my daughter.

OK, im in, go for vienne.

Edit: the thing that worried me was his stack moving towards camel town, but we have a number of maces there, so there is nothing to worry about

There has been some interesting movements on the graphs.
PR has lost some score, maple sporks have played 1 more turn than us, and the ducks power is climbing

That's the spirit!

It's possible he does this. But if he does, I believe his army will be within striking distance of our Bibracte stack and we'll be able to take down some of his units.

Interesting. Is the PR war effort not going well? What could cause their power graph to be so jumpy. Ours seems to be going up during the war?

And as always, I can't wait to read the ducks thread.

I just got home and finished getting the kid in bed after being out most of the day.

I think we should spare the units to take Vienne, but I don't think that will happen for a while since it is past 2:00 am on the US East Coast.

Edit: Apparently Bengiinal is a late-nighter. :)

Oh that's right - he's on vacation.

Damn kids. :old:

Green from me. :)

Go kick some Celtic butt.

Maybe they attacked without enough units, or even worse, without good enough units, and are in some sort of total war.

I'll wait for a few more greens on the war plans. We'll give it 24 hours from the PPP post and I'll play tomorrow afternoonish (~12 hours from now).

Yeah, I'm already a night owl. And break brings it out even more. 3:30am here, :mischief:

For sure, wait 24 hours from the PPP, we want everyone to comment. Its a big decision.

I remember back in my Uni days where I would stay up to 3 or 4 during the holidays, watching rented VHS copies of the latest episodes of Star Trek: Next Gen.

Ahhh, to be young. :old: edit: mind you, I wouldn't swap, I like getting paid what I get paid too much :D

I normally play the ones i dont make, i am currently at 1ad in the saladin botm

Deckhand plays them, not sure if anyone else does.

Edit: has the sun come up in north carolina yet?

Alrighty. I'm waiting on a green from Revent to play a one-turn mini-set and see where the stack moves. He's online a fair amount so I'll wait for him.

Also, what did we decide on whipping Universities. Steel Horse was in favor of immediate action, and Neil wanted to wait for stone for Oxford. In a lot of cases Universities will pay off immediately as the cities are large and producing quite a few beakers with the slider up so high. I hadn't proposed whipping because the cities are in most cases worker good tiles (I did propose whipping away some plains hill mines and that's been approved by the team). Also in this discussion should be a discussion of the slider. If we're going to be whipping in universities and libraries as SH recommends , maybe we could turn the slider down and then get more bang for our buck when some of the research buildings are finished?

I'm in favor of using the whip if the city has high commerce. Turning research off prior to whipping out universities makes a lot of sense. With our power so high, it's unlikely anyone will demand money from us.
