SGOTM 21 Maintenance Thread

Team Phoenix Rising has withdrawn from this game. This is due to real life and limited numbers left in team to complete game.

Good luck to all other teams.

Say what?

Sorry to hear that. PR would be the last team I'd expected to drop out. :(

There are still about 2 months left and your progress is ahead of most teams. Usually 3~4 active members would be very solid to complete the game. Consider how PD completed the game with 2 players in most of SGOTM12.

I really hope that your team could think about it again and stay to complete.

Duckweed - This was not an easy decision for us. Unfortunately some times real life comes first. We have all viewed other threads, saves and posted in lurker thread already. This Phoenix has truly burnt out and hit the ashes.

I'm really sorry to hear that. For the record, I've always had a soft spot in my heart for PR, so I share your pain in having come to this decision.

On the plus side, all of the other teams have just increased their chances of getting an Award.

We have all viewed other threads, saves and posted in lurker thread already.
If multiple team members have had the time to do these things, then surely over the course of 2 months, whether waiting 1.5 months from now before picking up the game again or playing overnight for the last couple of nights, some players would have had time to play out the game.

The time spent posting in a lurker thread could have been spent posting in your own thread, the time spent viewing others' saves could have been spent on viewing your own saves, and the time spent viewing others' threads could have been spent in your own thread.

As Duckweed said, it's actually not that hard to get through a game of Civ IV... many of us have pulled over-night sessions to finish most of an XOTM game in the span of a single day. Once you'd made the decision that you were lacking in time to play out the game slowly over the next 2 months, it's a real shame (meaning: it is really unfortunate) that you were unable to put your remaining time toward trying to finish off the game.

@Dhoom

Keep in mind that it is probably more complicated than.

PR were very consistent over the years.

All the best to all the PR members.

Well i should explain why it's not really a "shame" that PR stopped, when i had to leave our remaining members felt like they lost the heart of their team.

In many other teams, there are several players who "carry" games..
but reality for PR was that i turned them into this competitive team Duckweed mentions.

If he would stop for RL reasons, PD would still have plenty players carrying their game (using this example, i hope you do not mind)..
in PR we had Izuul who watches his little daughter while playing usually & who was not sure he should sign up again anyways.

+ 1 player who kept signing up because of me.
They cannot go on "alone" easily after i changed the team spirit back then.
5-1 = still 4 does not work here.

I reckon its up to the players in the Team to decide whether to continue. PR have been in SGOTM for a while now and I'm sure that they won't have taken this decision lightly. Hopefully the Phoenix will be reborn from the ashes of this game.

It won't affect Fifth Element directly, PR were never true rivals for the Wooden Spoon .

Please let's leave PR to handle the situation as they feel appropriate. This is not the appropriate forum for a debate on this matter.

I notice PR's saves have disappeared from the progress page. Is this normal when a team drops out? Will we be able to view them once the game is over?

This is the first time a team has dropped out, so there is no precedent. I had to remove the players so that they could be free to spectate for the rest of the game. Their saves are still on the server, and I'll reinstate them when the game is over.

This question deserves a general answer:
Question about SGOTM
In earlier SGOTMs teams have been allowed to do moves on the final turn, after the victory screens are showed, before submitting the final save. Are we allowed to win hearts on the final turn, before submitting the final save?

The rules say:

Scenario
Win the hearts of the three female leaders. Then win the game with any victory condition.
I assume the bolded 'then' means we have to win the hearts before the turn of victory, but checking for clarification just to be sure.
You are correct.
The introduction also says:
Win the heart of the most prominent women of the world, all three female leaders, before you reach a victory condition of your choice.
In this game, all special conditions must be met before the victory turn. Because the only special condition is winning the hearts and they all must be won before achieving victory.

Also note:
Teams will be ranked first by number of hearts won, then by date.
Winning hearts after winning the game will not increase your ranking.
Spoiler :
But here is something new:

We will use it as a tie breaker if two teams have the same victory date with the same number hearts won before victory (but less than 3) and one of the teams wins another heart on the final turn. :crazyeye:

Spoiler :
Put in spoiler because it's not going to happen.
