SGOTM 22 - TTfkapr

His stack has moved 1E. Heading to horse??? My gut is to move both Archers from Fish towards Rome. They would be in time for city 4. We can then spare units for horse city if needed.

Save uploaded.

So mini plan. Both Archers from Fish towards Rome.

Hold back warrior 1SE of Rome.

Farm grassland 2S of Rome.

Gspy towards Sal.
WB to iron city.
Exploring warrior head towards Celts.

Not much else to plan.

We also need to be thinking about a galley for spies soon. Hmmm.

Also when to whip fish city.

In that case I will go with the mini plan above moving the additional archers up. Frankly I would rather him just attack. Worst case scenario is Brennus showing up with a stack too. Hence my archer plan.

I think granary whip can wait 2 turns. Only issue might be if we don't want more than 20 hammers in galley on OF.

I'll wait a few mins for any replies before playing. Still finishing ironing here.

I would be inclined to brink a warrior and an archer from fish. If Darius goes to 2W of Rome toward Horse City, we may have to attack him on open ground.

Everything else sounds fine.

You make the call on the granary based on the test game.

Can you rename Antium to Fish or Fish City?

I will have to test on granary. On my final shirt ironing wise.

This is one of the issues with Civ 4. If you stack a city full of defenders the Ai just never attacks.

Will play on in 5 or so mins. Test granary first.

Okay full focus on game now. Time to test granary. Will rename fish later. :)

Everything looks good so far :goodjob: Iron can start to work on spies allmoust right away.

Seems to me we need to delay granary whip. Tried 225bc, 200bc and 175bc whip. Overall 175 offered 28OF but still had 3 turns to regrow. The 2 previous turns were worse. Let me quickly try 150bc.

150bc whip looks good. 32OF regrowth 2 turn.

Updated test game. Warrior may be out of place.

Time to play on live game a turn. Sorry for slow play but this needs to be right. We have option to lose a mine and work a grassland here for 1 turn earlier growth. See what team think. Timing is everything.

Either whip immediately or in 2 turns, everything else is worse. Immediate whip gives most food and has us back at pop 4 one turn earlier than any other option. Whip in 2 turns is behind in food but gives more hammers and commerce. Enough more to justify it, so my vote goes to whip in 2 turns.

Played the next turn and stack moved east again. Do we want another build in horse city now? Uploading. Should be good to settle Iron next turn. 8 units nearby and 4 buildings.

What to build next in Rome and horse?? We have plenty of archers and a chariot now.

Would a city wall in horse be an over kill?

So whip next turn??? 175bc?? I fear we may have cross posted?

Yes, whip 175BC. Absolutely not 150BC, that doesn't store any food in granary before growth and is horribly behind in food 2 turns later.

So short term goals:

1. Hook up iron and consider Praets.
2. How to best use spies. Where to build them.
3. City location for city no 5. Where to build settler?
4. City builds. How many more archers do we really want?
5. Great person strategy. Do we still want GS for a religion??

Spies wise Shulec suggested a galley as this worked stationary. So producing them in iron city may not be perfect? This shrine city is likely to expand borderwise quickly. I suggest galley in Fish city after granary.

Spies?? Could be whipped or slow built. Rome could slow build some? Pends how quickly we want spies over Praets.

Final settler? Whipped from fish eventually?

No sign of Brennus stack yet but it may not be going the coastal route. Certainly not passed Carthage city. Persians will have other units to arrive.

Time to pause for night. Busy for me after work tomorrow. Might have time on Sat to play.

Trojan will not get culture from holy city due to Christianity since running Hinduism as state religion.

Once we get spies going, I want CoL. Once Iron is built, I want to run two scientists in Rome to get a philosophy bulb going.

Calendar would be nice thing to have too.

Edit:
I took a look on real game save.
Axeman and archer is defending in Darius city . Hes cities are not on hill. We should have good odds even against axeman there.
Hes not that far away, 4 Prets could cause some troubles. For sure we should get 1 wm2 Pret asap.
In 3 turns we will c how far from faudalism/machinery they are.
Our economy looks not bad Currency is preety obv choice for me.
I like stealing CoL bulbing Philo(dont like self techin it) and run Pacifism.
I dont know maybe we dont need cats, this unit spam is silly. Maybe better option is get early maces, steal MC maybe Machinery too and slowly pushing forward while teching to Curassiers .
I would love to have Marble somehow somewhere... and MoM and TGL and Parthenon :D.

I wouldn't build any more archers, our unit upkeep costs are shooting through the roof. Next turn the archers from Rome can be spread across the empire and that's more than enough. Horse could put one turn hammers into barracks (or walls if we fear DoW from Brennus), then build worker in 6 turns. No need to keep it growing without improvements. I wouldn't finish that archer in Rome now either. The best thing to do with the hammers is probably to put into aqueduct until Alpha is online, then build spies.
