SGOTM 23 - Turbo Ants

Another idea along the same lines:

Mobility

(-1 terrain movement)
Never used it.
That's what Keshiks have, right? or is it similar, but different?
We'd have to examine the terrain to see if this could be a big benefit.

It would mean: Flanking I, II and Mobility. No C1.
I don't see the withdraw helping much with speed-conquest. I suppose it means your Knight is alive instead of dead, but it also means it's usually around 0.1 health.
The other advantage is FII gives 'immune to first strikes'. That could help keep our units keep more health and moving sooner. edit: Knights are already immune

It's only been 5 days since ZPV 'took a break'. As I begin to catch up, it sounds like he had a lot of concrete plans already. Maybe we'll give him a couple more days to pop back in and at least post his thoughts even if he can't play.

My plans for tonight did fall thru, so I can start trying to figure out some stuff.

I think Keshiks are slightly better than mobility promo.
The difference being forested/jungled hills are still a problem for Mobility, right?
Mobility only works on forest, jungle, or hill, but not a comination
where Keshiks can move thru any of those tiles.

What do you guys think about a mini turnset where we start the golden age, micro the cities a bit so we can see our research rate. What else should be done ASAP?
- multiple resource trades to Churchill to get him to Pleased sooner
- kill Gandhi missionary
- erase sign to raze Beijing and 'city here' sign.
- MM istanbul to finish granary this turn?
- TBD...

Mao
  1. Beijing will need ~7t to come out of resistance. Can we capture it by T117 for a T125 victory?

Can we gift the city(to gandhi?), re-capture. Gift it to Memed, recapture, with the goal of reducing the city size each capture, thus reducing the resistance time?

Are there plans to put Mao in Caste? If not and he whips then the city won't take so long.

Do we consider raze/re-settle? Currently there are signs to raze Beijing, but I think that was for a northern RR

We only need one settler with the South RR, right?

I think I like the March idea. We don't even need our 9xp knights for that. Our 7xp one will get at least 1 xp on their first battle, so they'll have March in time to heal the first time. Yea!, Charismatic trait.

We can use some of the 9xp knights for C2+Amphibious.

I'm fine with starting the GA for MM. I'd hold off on other reversible moves, including killing the G Miss. It's just really annoying when such a move crimps your style. GO ahead and get it, do whatever you want and upload, if you wish.

March idea is definitely clever. KK should be a creampuff so march would lessen the number of knights needed there. Mao will be harder because he has metal, so the stronger knights might be better.

I would also consider sending HAs to KK if that allows us to send a bunch of immediate amphibious to CHurchill, but that also depends on how important it is to beef up our trade routes asap. I think we can capture at least 2 island cities on T116 and a third on T117.

what's the plan to close the culture gap between Munich and Istanbul?
Good spot. Istanbul could hire an artist. Another possibility would be to build culture just before we finish, since we probably wouldn't need any more units.

Note that the grass tile at Istanbul-2w1n has 2t into a mine.

Speaking of which, we also need to start building mines everywhere, right?

With chemistry, workshops produce one more Hammer than the mines, but you're right we need to get mines everywhere to have a better shot at instant coal

What need do we have this turn for the Golden Age? Would it make sense to start it on T112. It's not like we can win the game before the Golden Age ends either way

For starters, the GP planning is based on the GA this turn. Is there a reason to extend the GA on the other end? I thought you had us getting RR on ~T123. GA ends on T124.

Also, I think we're more cash-starved now than we'll be later. Hoepfully anway, capturing lots of cities.

Yea, I figured. Just felt I needed to ask before triggering it.
Certainly a later GA would net us a few extra beakers overall, but like you said: needs are more urgent now and it would mess up the GP plan.

ok, I 'got it'. Not sure how much irreversible I'll do, other than the GA and churchill trades. It's not like we can forget the missionary kill, so I won't do that.

Memed will OB. Any reason not to?

Stalin has 50g. Trade him something? Literature? Monarchy?
Sure, OB with Mehmed. I think that's the most Stalin has offered in a while. Not Monarchy. Don'tr want it cheaper for anyone else. Hm. On literature, will he build HE and then buildtoo many units for becoming a vassal? Or can he even build HE (without a level 4 unit)?

My tech estimates (see above) were done way back when we were planning 2 more GAges and had Fredburg, Berlin, Istanbul, Lisbon all in the GP plan. Now they're mostly doing Knights.
So the affect is that we have about 50 specialists instead of 80 in my estimate.

Anyway, we're doing 900 final-bpt instead of what I thought might be ~1200.
I don't think it's a problem.
a) once we have a ton on conquest gold coming in, we can run more sci instead of merchants
b) I think we only needed to average 1000 bpt til the end, so we should be able to make up that ground.
c) plenty of ways to run a ton of sci later...
so I guess the thing to watch out for is meeting our early tech milestones...but I think we hit the big ones: guilds, banking, engineering were all on time and very important. Chemistry on time means a small hammer boost. I can't think of any critical techs.

Spies. What can they do? We have 29 EPs on Churchil. Maybe we plan to steal $ from him?
Is it worth the risk of getting -1 if the spy gets caught? Or do you only get -1 if a mission fails?

if we traded calendar instead then his workers might do plantations instead of chopping.
