[BTS] SGOTM 26 - Home Slices

So whales looks like:

T67 whip monument
T68 Mids
T69 - T77 Granary (add 1 chop after math)
T78 whip (57/60 Granary)
T79 Mids (back to size 2 with 4f) workboat needed.

or

T77 whip (54/60 Granary)
T78 Mids
T79 (back to size 2 with 8f) workboat needed.

Either way wb is needed for T79, right? I figured we can't afford to whip away the silver til T78. Otherwise, ideally whip T76 and grow T78 (wb needed 1t earlier)

Whales needs to get to Size 4 when horses is improved.
We can't do that if we constantly rob its food bowl.

Whip monument goes into Great Wall.

If Mirrorguard wants to do T66 WB in Cows and T68 monument whip, I would be fine with it.
I know how much people hate chopping workboats.

I think Mirrorguard delayed the Monument whip 1 turn somehow to put the Great Wall overflow in on T69 instead of T68
I ran the test to see how settling 2clam would affect research speed. What I intended to do was to whip at T69 when food bin is 18/26 to save 1more turn on silver mine to see its maximum gold potential. Whipping at T68 is just one of the mistakes, but it means I will have to find 2 extra beaker to compensate for what's lost 1 turn in whale coast. Either from science or new city.
Workboat in Canal feels like less food and more money
For purity of GS point, there will be fewer scientists there. Whip anger stacks up too. I guess return on investment in canal food supply is not as good compared to elsewhere?

I believe it's 67h, not 75, but we could get some value here. ofc OrgRel costs at least -2 upkeep.

This lead me to thinking about the civics switches we have to do.
In an ideal world, I see 3 turns of anarchy:

T81 - ish?
Bureau + OrgRel (thx LC)
(sorry 2Clams, no caste artist for you)
Crap! we don't have Poly yet
Ugh, this delays IW.
Hopefully? we meet an AI that gives us Alpha, Poly, Mono, IW.
This plan might be falling apart, but here's how it would work (if this was Deity, and the AI didn't suck)...

T90? or T95-ish? (after we get Mids)
Caste + Rep

5 turns later:
Probably in Science? (or maybe Silver or Whales) gets us a 100% GS to bulb Philo
Slavery, Pacifism

Science stops working scientists to focus on growth/failgold
All three of these cities (if not more) should have a library. Ideally before the caste+rep switch. or whip it now.

T110-ish : using 2 library scientists, Silver (or Whales) gets 100% GS #2 for Edu
Science cannot afford to run 2 scientists for a long period of time. No food.

Then all Free switches during GAs....

1st Golden Age free switch: Caste, Merc when/if it's available (another reason GLH is not ideal).
Before End GA: Slavery, OrgRel?

(5 turn gap)

2nd Golden Age: Caste, Pacifism, Merc if we haven't yet
Before End GA: Slavery, OrgRel?

Biology
Are we revolting on T79?

If we are, Cow City could work Stonehenge 1 more turn and start workboat on T67.

Are we revolting on T79?

I wasn't sure if the team would come up with a good reason to do that.
The plan I threw together has us waiting until Mono. Maybe we bail on Mono til we get it free?
An extra turn of anarchy is better than research Mono ourselves.
Sometimes I try too hard avoid the anarchy turn.

So bureau+caste is an option, with a switch back to slavery T84 (plus OrgRel?) but I don't know if we can do without slavery T79-84
And I doubt we'll have (poly) mono T84.

Or just Bureau?

So, we're at about 0 gold T79. How much do we have in Mids? Aren't we gonna have to trigger that gold just to get moving?
Or we still have most of our Henge gold to spend yet? How much will that be?

It will take a while to get IW, or Mono, etc without leftover SH gold.
Should we burn up that gold then suffer a bit yet? Setting up our long term 100% research plan?

We have 156 henge gold next turn of which we will have all of it T79 if the AI completes Stonehenge next turn. (116 in capital and 38 in Cow City)
This goes to 170 by T67.

Every time the PPP says 'Mids', we really mean SH if it's not built and if the city hasn't filled SH already. correct?

Ya I think so.
I'm going to try and write up the PPP with all the latest changes and see what the team thinks.

I've already noticed that Cow City is busy with Great Wall T67, so Workboat needs to be started T66 even if we revolt to Bureau T79.
And Rex can't start a mine on that hill T68 because the city is not founded yet.

**Edit**
Interesting.
Mirrorguard does not spend all the Great Wall gold right away and shifts spending to 100% from T72 through T78 I think for a couple extra beakers.

Woke up this morning (or more like the middle of the night) with an outside-the-box plan I think you're going to love!

The inside-the-box way to get to sushi is to block at compass to bulb Biology (otherwise you have to bulb astro, physics, electricity first)
And you get there using MoM-fueled GAges.

But! we don't have to use MoM, we could use Parthenon for a similar effect. Since we can't use both and, we don't have any calendar resources, we block at calendar.

Now we're free to get compass + optics any time we want-- in case the AI are across the ocean. And those are both needed for sushi/medicine anyway.
- We can send missionaries to get religion the way we want it or spies for same.
- Trading tech for $$ can fuel us a long way.
- Now we can have Harbors
- Optics gives +1 sight, so that often gives instant circumnavigation and if not, caravels do.
- we get our whales

The bad news: we still can't trade resources or attack anyone until Astronomy, but at least we'll know if they have something to trade.

P.S. I figured out how to possibly get Astronomy before Sushi -- without causing any delay to Sushi...but I won't bore you with that

+1

Plus, Parthenon comes sooner, works all the time, and we can trade for calendar resources without having calendar.

Are we all thinking Whales= Artist, Silver = General, 2Clams = Merchant
Prioritization:
  1. Hammer city?
  2. GP schedule
  3. Wonder schedule
Merchant needs to be a hammer city, yes? We need to ensure we get the GSes we need and we need to have necessary wonders available, such as the Mids and the Parthenon, when we need them. That tells us where where the Parthenon and the General go, right?

So with my new idea to have Astronomy early-ish, Colossus (going obsolete) looks less shiny, especially without copper to make it more shiny.
I have the urge to chop GLH ASAP in 2Clams. Anyone wanna talk me off the ledge?

Strike 2,3 and 4 against Colossus : requires MC, requires forge, useless for failgold, but most importantly:
We're going to want to run dozens of scientists which means at minimum only our 14 seafood tiles are worked. Ideally, if we had the health, all cities would be size 14 and work tons of water tiles, but that's not likely. So maybe we get +20gpt or maybe just +14gpt.

I'm getting very jealous of GLH. Even tho, when we're finally in Merc, it's only worth +12gpt. With SB OB, it's about +15, then +16....
Let's imagine, in about 20 turns, finding a dozen other AI cities (+3 TR). GLH now provides +30gpt, right?
Find some more AI and it's +36. Then, now that we can envision earlier harbors, it's +54gpt

Now, Merc gives us +42, so we're definitely doing that, so +54 is not long lived. And +36 only happens if we find AI cities.

These are the only 2 Merchant wonders that pay for themselves so would we even consider anything else?

Here's the major thing stopping me from chopping GLH:
The UN is still viable. I forgot about a GE rushing (most of) it. I think about 800h, right?

Earlier I mentioned how we might contain/control religious VC, but if we need Astronomy, we will be too late to direct that. It could get built in Hindu, etc and we're out of that VC. Would the AI ever sail a missionary to us?

If we bury the UN, then we truly only have 'kill em all' left on the table. An again, if that mostly has to happen post-Astronomy that's a lot of work and goes against our sharing/loving relationships that might bring us health, and sushi, and copper (cathedrals), etc.

Could GLH be the biggest mistake in the game?

I'm torn between kill 'em all and Diplo. We still need the Heroic Epic and an experienced unit so maybe we just kill one or two?

A GE provides hammers based on the city pop. I think it's 800 base plus 30 per pop in the city but the brain cell in charge of that fact is 99% dead.

Since we can't use both and, we don't have any calendar resources, we block at calendar.

I didn't even realize that Calendar blocks Astro. I think it's because Calendar is a tech you almost always want early for plantations.

P.S. I figured out how to possibly get Astronomy before Sushi -- without causing any delay to Sushi...but I won't bore you with that

I'm interested to hear how this would work. But I can wait for the right time. ;)

Draft 14 muskets in 2 turns, send them along with chariots (for pillaging) + a few trebs?
I imagine we've got to beat longbows on hills as the toughest defender.

That army costs us what? 30 gpt?
Conquest gold? 3000-5000?
rape and pillage, 1000-2000?
