SGOTM1 Sign Up Thread

Hi everyone, and welcome to the SGOTM sign up thread.

The general idea of SGOTM is for competing teams to play a Succession Game based on a GOTM scenario. Anyone can play, and this month in particular the game has been selected to give people a gentle introduction to SG play.

This time round the Succession Game of the Month is revisiting the first ever GOTM where the teams will be playing as Persia on a small map at regent difficulty. No modifications to the original game have been made and no downloads (other than the starting saved game) are required.

The game will start on the 7th April, so sign up (either individually or as a team) by posting in this thread, and above all, have fun :D

Here is the start position.

To support a greater variety of gameplay styles, this month sees the introduction of scoring bonuses for SG's played to the listed variant rules.

Always War. Scored as a Monarch level game.
Five City Challenge. Scored as a Monarch level game.
One City Challenge. Scored as an Emperor level game.

Teams who abide by the RBCiv Exploit rule set will receive a bonus of 7% to their score. (Yes I know it's a funny number).

Demonstrating the ability to win by more than one victory condition on the same turn will earn the lucky team a 10% bonus to their score. Note: Domination does not count for this bonus (so there :p ).

The individual team threads will be posted on the day of the game starting along with the rosters.

Being not a fan of OCC or 5CC, don't think it can compensate for score even with the offered bonuses. However, it may be a fun. Same goes to AW game unless there is iron and food bonus right next to the start.

I'd prefer straight game going for ALL victory conditions on the same turn (around 1700-1900AD or slightly later) played in PTW 1.27f. Including 100K (On a small map it is tough), 20K (even more difficult), Domination, Conquest, Space Ship, and Diplo. This would apparently require some milking later in the game and other tricks but can be probably done. And honorable RBC rules. But, if nobody is willing to play that, I'll join some other team, 5CC or AW probably.

Not a fan of milking but no problem of learning how to do that.

Count me in. Already forgot what regent looks like.

No OCC please - I've had enough of it recently. ;)

5CC or AW looks interesting as I never did that before.

EDIT: Priorities for me:

1. AW
2. 5CC (or both)
3. any other but OCC

I'll be away until 04/11 so make sure I'm not in the first 1 or 2 slot.

I'll try to arrange teams so that everyone getw to play the style they prefer, but some pople may have to take their second choice.

The scoring bonuses are not really meant to fully compenstate for the increased challenge. I have played this game to the end twice. Once as a straight game and once as always war. Even with the bonus I did not score as well in the AW run through. My play was hardly perfect in either game though.

Did not mean to take the fun out. It was however unclear how would various team rosters compete then? Best write-up? Earliest finish? I'm thinking of GOTM competition spirit there as well but may be wrong. Personally, I never take it seriously. It is just pure fun on its own.

It'll just be scored by Jason as always. The easiest way to get a high score will be to play a normal game to a fast military victory I imagine. Playing a varient might be more fun though and the bonus is just to encourage it a little.

To be honest, I did think of making this a compulsory AW game, but decided it might put some people off. I hope most people will play it as AW though.

I'd like to sign on, because the gotm succession game idea is very appealing, and I have never played a succession game before. I played this game before about 2 years ago, but hopefully this won't disqualify me.

I would quite like to play a straight conquest or possibly AW, but would try anything. I think though a OCC might take a lot of the fun out of this game.

Sign me up!

But if I'm picked last in the team again (school-horrors), then I play OCC with my own team: Me, Myself and I. :)

If you're willing to do PTW, then I'll sign up. Haven't tried one of the mods yet, although I'm about to do an AW on my own to see how it works. A #CC sounds fun too, but I recall reading that you almost need to be at Diety for the trading to be profitable enough.

Put me down for AW :)

Ted

I would like to sign on as well. I have never tried AW, OCC, 5CC or any other varient. I am willing to give anything a try, except OCC.

The only thing I am worried about is not knowing how to do what the team wants to do. For all to enjoy it, the team shouldn't have to spend their time teaching me game concepts so that I can keep up with them, although I am a fast learner.

Can I play too?

No real preference on variant.

Might be nice to try for a multi-type victory though, but not a requirement.

Well, MB, it looks like at least 3 groups for this one so far...

If they're willing, Bugsy, Denyd, Grahamiam and I could team up with 1-2 others, as it sounds like the other groups are forming up.
