SGOTM1 Persia - Sign Up Thread

I should just at this point state for the record that the game is still open to anyone that wants to play. Just sign up in the normal way.

What happened to Samildanach being on our team. Did all that PM'ing to recruit go for nought. Now we have the lowest rated team. :grumbling:
We'll survive either way but I was really looking forward to playing with the team I had assembled to hopefully have a crack at the staff.

Should we start threads now, or should we wait until the seventh?

I'd wait, Bugsy. The teams might change. I for one had hoped to play in a team of five, since I'll be on holiday (again :p) the last week of april and the first week of may. It's hard to be a Motley Crew when you're with just 3...

samildanach volunteered to move, and he can move back if he wants to. He really can. However, this way we have fairly evenly matched teams with a slightly strong Staff team, instead of two very strong teams and the other teams trailing in your wake.

Samildanach and offa are the two highest rated players in this months game. But as I said, you can have him back if you want. Just say the word.

Note that if you all decide to play in future games (which I really hope you will) then the team membership won't be a problem because I can add players to your team to balance the rating. But having 6 players on your team this time round would limit the number of turns people would get. I don't want to be obstructive, or appear vindictive, I just want all the teams to have a shot at winning, and I want some of the less experienced players to have the chance of playing with the elite players - like everyone in your team for instance.

Nevermind then. I think microbe, solarknight and myself are ready for a breakout performance. I have a load of AW experience and with Gozpel and the imfamous Offa in our corner our immortals should be able to run amuck on the AI's in regent world.

I also propose this roster order:

Offa
Gozpel
barbslinger
Microbe
Solarknight

I think having Offa and Gozpel having the first turns will give them more game time overall, the start is important and gets them turns during our, modt likely, initial contact.

The threads go up on the 7th. I will post them as I need control over the first post in order to post scores and graphs and stuff. You can start to play at any time after that.

Something I should have mentioned is that the roster order is not significant. The teams should choose the order of play to suit themselves.

Hi X-men :wavey:

I guess we have some catching up to do. First order of business is to find out what everyone wants from this game, and as we don't have a private thread for it for another couple of days I'll start the ball rolling here. Retrieving people's stated preferences:

Alanh: I'd like to try a variant because I haven't been there before.

leif erikson: "Anything except OCC". Sounds a bit like me.

mabellino: "warmongering skills are a bit shoddy" Does that mean you'd rather play for peace? Or you'd like some practice in an AW?

zamint3: "No special preference" Easy to please, then ...

Capt Buttkick: "AW would mean good practice for me, but no big issue". Could be we have some previous experience here?

I guess we ought to go for a variant bonus. I'd vote AW, as long as there's someone on the team with battleground experience of AW. Choose your weapons, folks!

Edit - found my name on a roster (someone PM'd me and said you'd left me off MB...)

It might be difficult to get 4 players for OCC. Not impossible for sure, and I will approach people I think would be interested. Would you be prepared to play 3CC? You might get more interest.

I'm just playing an 3CC I started, so I would then rather play an 5CC or OCC.

But, as there are at least 2 others who could play an OCC, I think I'll go for it. Although I think Regent would be way easy, so maybe AW would be cool? :)

@Bede: I'd rather play vanilla, but it depends on how many else I get into the team...

ankaa : the teams are UP on page 5 of this thread. You have a 4 man roster for OCC.

Scoutsout. You are in the 5CC always war game. If you really want to change to a girlie straight AW game let me know. I though you would relish the challenge.

As I mentioned before, I played through this game a couple of years ago. I am confident that this will not affect my play unduly after the start, but I think that the opening few moves should be performed by a team-mate. Therefore I would like to swap the opening moves with Gozpel, if this is OK.

I swore I did this already, but I can't find my post on the list so I would like to sign up for the SGOTM. Don't have a preference for what varient. Thanks!

Edit: though I would prefer to be in PTW, I can live with having to install GOTM for vanilla

Don't worry pindicator. You may not see your name on the rosters for another 12 hrs or so, but don't fret. :)

Hello, fellow (Bugs') Bunnies! We're named after Bugs, but if he doesn't mind, I'll open up our discussion.

As far as play order, my biggest enjoyment comes from exploration, and I don't mind starting, so either first or second would be good, although I'll be comfortable wherever I'm slotted. I've not played this GOTM before, so that's not an issue.

For a variant, I've never tried a #CC, and am only just starting my first AW, so I'm open for anything. They each sound fun and challenging. Concerning the skill levels on out team, I'll put my self on the low end of comparable to the rest of you.

I usually PTW, but vanilla is fine too.

Please post your thoughts!

Hello R&L, seems like almost 5 minutes since we last talked :p

I've been looking at what everyone else is considering and wonder why we'd want to follow the crowd. Everyone else is going always war (some with a city limit). Let's go for a never war game. A game where we can never declare war and must take peace as soon as the AI asks for it. Of course, if they are dumb enough to declare war on us, we aren't prevented from waging it to the fullest until they cry uncle.

We could shoot for a combined (space/culture/diplomacy) victory to make it a challenge. Timing out a triple type victory is a much more difficult challenge than simply playing whack the AI for 200+ turns. I mean are we not superior to all the knuckle-dragging, chili dog eating, Brown Derby drinking barbarians who believe the only way to reach the top is to climb on the bodies of fallen. ;)

Just a couple of thoughts before going into an HR team building meeting :spank:. At least we get a free lunch.

"It's Elmer Season" We will be the hunters this time.

I could go for a CC limit, just to up the difficulty level. I think we will walk all over this in a straight AW. I think I would prefer a 5CC. I've been playing a 3CC AW in DI1 for the past seven months and I don't want this to take that long.

Greetings fellow Civmates.

I have never tried any of the variants but, in a Regent game, AW sounds like a worthy goal. I always thought that multiple victory conditions would be fun to try, but I'm not that good!! MB's interpretation of RBCiv doesn't sound like it would be too hard to do either.

Whatever play order you want to do Alan is fine with me. I guess we should wait for the threads to open before we get into specifics.

Some admin questions. AlanH, do you think it would be possible to convince Ainwood that we should have a separate thread space in the GOTM forum for SGOTM much like the Quick Games section that is there now?
I know AlanH has a Mac and I have a "PeeCee", is there anything we have to do to make sure our saves can be transfered?

See you at the front! [dance] :viking: :band:

edit - spelling ;)

I like that idea - Space/Culture/Diplo would be a great timing challenge. Plus something, no one else is planning on doing.

What type of culture 20K or 100K. I think 20K would be tougher. 100K is just a matter of building tons of cities and filling them with cultural buildings.
