Well, usual AW rules forbid that and while "habit" alone does not seem a valid reason, I think allowing per turn trades turns the game (even more?) into a "who can exploit the AI most" competition. It also would drastically increase the luck factor.

The archipelago argument - already mentioned above - is very valid too.

A couple of questions:

Since no embassies, alliances are out, but how about gold per turn deals for tech, maps & gold?

Would you please define contact. Is it spotting a unit, seeing a border, when they first contact you or just having them appear on your diplomacy screen?

How many opponents?

One thing that's too bad is that I doubt many teams will get to use Siphai in the one as it'll probably be over one way or another before anyone gets to them. If you do get that far at least you'll have the best offensive unit availble pre-tanks to work with.
