SGOTM7 - Team Ivan

We need to rush libraries asap in all the newly settled cities(we make much gpt), and maybe strategically 'settle-squeeze' some cities for Domination. The game isn't far long to finish.

This has been mostly moving around units and hurrying libraries and some settlers. All city capturing/founding stuff is in the turnlog:

1. 1210
Gordium captured

5. 1250
razed Bactra
Sidon captured

7. 1260
Bingol founded, hurried library
Riza founded, library hurried

8. 1265
Zonguldak founded, library hurried
Linkoping captured

Astronomy discovered, start phyisics

9. 1270
Kirklareli founded

10 1275
Oslo captured
killed 4 spearmen in Nidaros

We need only 36 more tiles for domination, so the next player will probably finish the game.

can and will play tonight.
will try to culture expand as much as possible, if Zarth has not done that allready

Congrats Team Ivan. :goodjob:

I think you will find that not every team will notch a "W".

Although I've followed your game I'm looking forward to your final write up and what events you felt were most noteworthy.

Hmm I seem to have misplaced my turnlog, but there were just 2 more turn before domination. We got 9127 and finished last of the vanilla players.

Well played! You won an AWD game :) Not so dusty

Well done Team Ivan:goodjob:: it was an entertaining game, despite our finish position, and I've got a nice 'taste' of an AW game.

I'll wait to read the impressions of Ivan and conehead(as the most experienced players), and what they think we did well or not so well.

P.S.: I can finally LURK at the other SGOTM threads!!! :)

Well, I don't think I told the team that I never attempted an AW game in my life, so this was my first AW game and victory. I think I could have contributed to the discussions more, but I didn't really have any AW experience, this was my first.

I believe we should have built more science buildings so we could have reached our UU faster and got use out of it. Fighting knights against Persian muskets slowed us down. Speaking of persia, they conquered the arabs early in the game, that made them more powerful.

Thanks for playing, I certainly learned a lot this game.
I never won a game on deity before, let alone one on always war.
Also, I'm very anxious to read about what the other teams did better than us.

I'm intererrested to see how for some of the other teams managed to get a 500AD victory too. Might be they got an early leader which would be a huge advantage.

We built 3 granaries, you only 1. Thus we expanded faster and that is one of the key elements.

I don't think that it is "that" important. We had more troops instead of granaries and might start overseas compain earlier. Overall team tao had better ciry plcement (RCP) and much better military maneuvres. Obviously this is key elements to win AWD.
Ther was also some mistakes that our team did, that "solid professionals" of team tao woud not make. I consider this game as training/education and my special thanks to King Alex for detailed answering to newbies questions.
Two things that wear out of our control and make tao and our games different: Zulu had GW and Persian kiled Arabs and was much stronger in our game.
Anyhow it woud be interesting to compare our play because we follow the same direction as team tao. King Alex, could you write a final spoiler?
Regards, Ivan.

You can select to display the number of units on the submissions page.

Yes, we had a good RCP and also included cities on formerly Indian territory.

Yes, we walked over India, Zulu, etc. consequently step by step and had the Al Bait to draw all AI landings to a single area.

"Our" Zulus also hat The Great Wall.

Yes, we had the advantage of Persia not having conquered Arabia.

America got the GW in our game, Tao. It cascaded to them after the Zulus build the Lighthouse in Bapedi, IIRC. If they'd been beaten to the Lighthouse and wound up with GW in Bapedi instead, we would have had to change our strategy slightly. I would personally have pushed for our northern Zulu landing to have been by Bapedi instead of whatever that town was at the end of the peninsula, so that Bapedi would have been the first large town to be attacked. We would then have had to backtrack to get the peninsula town, which would have cost us a few turns.

Belated congrats on your win, Team Ivan. :)

@Ivan: I'll try to write a spoiler.
If you want to also add some (key)things that I might miss in my report, you can always add something posting in the 'spoiler' thread(or just post at this thread, and I'll edit my report in the spolier thread).

@tao & Renata: Congratulations on your victory/award(I don't think I'm allowed to post in your thread before I write our spoiler, right?)
