SGOTM8 - Bede

ya, that sounds good and looks good spike it... thats my input, just work on settling, 20 turns aint a lot, but we can get what we need to get done.

good luck

Only the first player in the first turn set plays 20. After that it's 10 each.

Try Photobucket for multiple inline images that no one else will stray across.

And here is the revised dot map. I too am tempted by goat mountain but the resources needed to exploit it are just too great (mucho worker turns). I also don't like like the idea of not having oyster stew on Christmas Eve, but trying to get that mollusk into a city radius just causes all kinds of problems.

But we can leave that corner for later I think, and push forward on 1, 2, 3. That's a few settlers at any rate.

And now that I see SpikeIt's map I kinda like that one too, still don't get that forest south of WDC, though.

I located a small map bug that affect your save (and one other team) - seems you somehow got an older version of the scenario which is lacking a resource in a tile (which you cant see yet)

You game has not been negatively affected by the bug, but might be in the future.
I dont know if AlanH can edit the save to fix the bug, and he is sleeping now I assume :)
Suggest you hold playing for a few hours untill Alan can confirm if he can fix it or not.

Thanks, Gyathaar. Well spotted. I have to work today, so will not be able to work on your save until this evening. I hope to fix it in about 14 hours from the time of this post.

Well I was going to play this tonight, but I guess I'll have to wait for the fix. I agree 1 and 2 are slam dunks. I still like the choke city, despite the work. Off the bat, I believe the goat moutain is an unworked bonus grass. Plus the city will have a lot of commerce going for it with the water around it. Later on, when we can afford the worker turns, the city should be pretty strong all around.

True, we miss out on the one forest tile that M60 picked up in his map, but at least we can chop those greens to benefit a city. Plus we pick up a few extra tiles we were missing with the 6 city plan.

Looks good to me.

Edit: I guess I should be more clear. I agree with SpikeIt's map and settler placement. However, M60's map is perfectly fine as well. I'm good with either one, though if I was playing alone, I'd do Spike's placement.

I think Spike's map actually gets the most tiles in the area to work. It may be that the southern city near the mountains won't come into it's own till later in the game, but it will be adequate pretty quick. As far as the western part of the map and Bede's oyster problem, I don't see a quick answer for that. I'll have to practice my painting ability (I've never done these types of maps before, just screenshots) and see what I come up with.

Sorry for using this thread as a guinea pig, but I am trying to see how it comes out. I can only seem to insert text, not arrows and circles and such with Irfanview. I'll see what happens anyhow.

One more time, for an alternate settler site map.
Edit: As a side note, I think we should leave a warrior in those mountains to the south to make sure we don't have a barbarian invasion anytime soon. (I wish we were Netherlands with this map and we could use boats!)

Your fixed file is back on the server. Sorry for the delay :(

Agree about the warrior... But the Dutch?! Bah. F15s will take care of any barbarian threat. And use boats? That's just silly. :crazyeye:

Well, I did say "about 14 hours", and it was actually 14:20 hours :)

We could always build gliders of light pliable wood and take off from the top of one of those mountains and soar over the water and settle to the west! Who needs modern technology anyhow!?

Or once we get catapults we could just stick our settlers in 'em and send 'em west over that little strip of water Python style. ;)

If only we could...

[1] 3000BC
Northern scout moves to hill outside of Beijing and spots the eastern coast.
Settler is due in 3. I up lux to 10%, writing is due in 33 at -3gpt. Only 6 gold in the treasury. Greece and China are up Bronze Working and the Wheel.

IBT
A Greek hoplite appears in the jungle.

[2] 2950BC
I stupidly take our warrior and attack a mountain barb camp. We lose. We're not going to grow beyond size 3 before we pop this settler, so I MM to cut another turn off the settler build. Next turn.

IBT
settler -> warrior

[3] 2900BC
The Greeks settle Sparta. We have too many units for our one city. The value of three scouts is beyond me given our land at this point. The units are breaking us. Good think I, um, disbanded our warrior. Sci rate has to drop a lot to not bankrupt us. I'd hate to see our settler disbanded - not sure if this is possible.

[4] 2850BC
Exploring...

[5] 2800BC
Our treasury is at 0. I dial down sci further. Keep exploring.

[6] 2750BC
Its pretty apparent we could become the world broker in dyes if we settle the jungle. 5 resources.

[7] 2710BC
The computer suggest New York, I settle Newark. Hey, I'm from Jersey. With the 2nd city, our treasury is in better shape. I up science so writing is due in 23 at 0gpt. I switch the warrior build in Washington back to settler. Newark starts our 2nd warrior.

[8] 2670BC
There are more grapes far up north. We'll be sipping wine eventually.

[9] 2630BC
Exploring, working.

[10] 2590BC
Yeah. More of the same. Washington will grow in 2, and the settler is due in 8

And the save:2590BC

The Northern territory, or more aptly named, why Greece and China won't wait long to settle south.

Minor administrative note. The save should be at 2550 BC- Turn 30. Not a real issue, next up should just take 11.

Unstack the workers please.

The most efficient sequence with two workers is each worker roads adjacent fields, then combine to irrigate or mine, then separate again to road adjacent fields.

Next settler should go to spot 2 on this map:

I picked up the save at 3000BC and nothing had been played yet. All units had their movement. So for me 3000BC was turn 1. On my turn 10, 2590BC, I played all the moves with only the next turn button left to be done. In previous SGs I've played that's how the saves were handed off. Maybe Juballs played 19 instead of 20?
