SGOTM8 - Bede

That's ok, because it was almost 2AM when I wrote it. :crazyeye:

The Monk is supposed to be doing the teaching and the preaching.
I'm sure he can explain it better.

I need to be quiet for a while and just watch you guys play.

k i got it but i have one question... where do i settle, post a screenie with the exact tile or direct me from the starting location

k i just want to clear some stuff up so i dont mess anything up for our team.

1) my posted save after 20 turns is given to the link that bede provided.
i dont have to provide a save for all 20 turns do i? just the one after 20 turns?

also... what tech path so i go down... i suggest the republic slingshot attepmt... if to risky i say we go straight for construction and try to grow our cities until we change to a monarchy or republic, i just want to know what tech to start on

Correct

umm...? so do i have to give a save for every turn, or just an overall log of every turn and one save?

You only need a save at the end of the 20th turn, but before going to the 21st. There's a specific procedure for what to do with the save so the powers that be can look it over if they want.

You just need to post a log of what you did each turn before that.

Good luck and safe building!

@juballs,

Alphabet at maximum.

M60 did a pretty good job of expliaing why no granary in the capitol. Here's my summary:

site is food rich and shield poor, so getting enough food is not a problem, it is the shields. Spending the shields on a granary at the beginning is too costly. Better to have two towns built rather than one granary.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. Everything you said was correct, which seemed to be all I needed to say, but here's the breakdown:

[my posted save after 20 turns is given to the link that bede provided.
Correct. You upload your save after 20 turns to the link Bede gave you.
i dont have to provide a save for all 20 turns do i?
Correct. you do not have to provide 20 saves.
just the one after 20 turns?
Correct. Just upload one save after 20 turns.

The procedure is listed here .. the Maintenance Thread is your friend and bible.

ok, i can start now, i assum that in my first 20 turns i will
a) explore the land mass we are on
b) hopefully pop a goody hut or 2
c) build scout, worker, warrior and settler
d) possibly meet an AI civ
e) either found the second city and finish alphabet(if all goes well)

We warping to Republic to start out?

Oh and thanks, M60 and Bede for the explanations. What if a city was settled in the middle of a jungle with no fruit about, the site would be good to go on shields but maybe food poor(i.e. below 5fpt), an early granery might make sense then if I understand your logic correctly?

ok i just completed the first 20 turns of the game with a log included, i will post it tonight some time

good luck to spikeit who is up next!

i did the best i could, our settler is mere turns away, the only thing i would have done differently is moved the popped warrior into our town so an entertainer would not have to of been used after Washington grew to 3

hope i did alright

also... i dont know where to post my turn log... if you want it in this thread i will post it in here, i just want it okayed before i do

the 3000BC save is up for spikeit, and it is named Bede.sav

take a look at the map and y questions let me know

i also noticed that at the 3000BC check point, we are in first place!

Jungle tiles are both food and shield poor. They only carry one food. They do not produce shields, although once cleared can be a good source of BGs. However, due to the time it takes to clear a jungle it falls into the same category as putting mines and roads in mountains, i.e. you wait a while and keep your workers in more productive tasks. About the only thing I would do with jungle towns is put a fledgling garrison in place and spin off what workers I could.

One other thing about jungles is the AI tends to settle them last, so sometimes you can pick up cheap real estate easier. But again, it's not terribly productive early on.

Ah, the light slowly begins to shine on the tiger!!!

Another question, is there a program, other than paint, or something outrageously expensive to help with editing images, like croping and stuff? I like to post screenies when I put up my log, but they always come out huge.

@rt,

Irfanview is probably the best program for capturing and resizing screenshots. Simple and cheap (it's free)

@juballs,

SO far so good, but use the luxury slider rather than a clown in the future.

Log always goes in the team thread.

I should be able to play tomorrow after the log is shown and some discussion. In the meanwhile take a look at our beautiful situation.

We have a real urban planning problem on our hands. How to make best use of limited area. Fortunately the jungle north will deter the neighbors unless that is all they have.

Get roads onto the floodplains ASAP. We will be needing the gold to maintain the burn to Writing.

I will try to post a dot map later, but anyone who knows me (M60?) will tell you that my urban planning is frequently less than awesome. The problem as I see it now is how to get five productive towns in place when there are only two rivers and a small lake to work with.

thanks for the feedback.

i agree city placement wil be the tough part of the early game.

as for the luxury slider, i know that, but it was my 19th-20th turn that it was happening, and so i just made the 3rd ciitizen into an entertainer.
spikeit can change that right when he still opens the save and no effect will happen, and the settler will be built the next turn as it was planned to be.

i will be studying the map to think about city placement, since i dont know how to use any picture editing software i will just use directional commands to suggest where cities should go from the capital.

thanks again, and good luck to spikeit

i will also be posting my game log as soon as i get home from work

Well, there's my suggestions.

Build is a little wide, maybe, but going any tighter won't fit another town. I don't think. And we are certainly getting a lot of coastline!!!!

Unfortunately it looks like acqueducts everywhere as I hate to put a town right on top of a floodplain, 'cause its my impression that makes the disease thing worse.
