Cool! We did it finally. Does not make us first but it seems as a good game.

I'm going to read other threads and analyze how they did it. Especially solving the Wacken early game puzzle would be interesting.

Thanks everyone for playing! And sorry again I could not participate more actively.

Well, I could not possibly read all posts in the Wacken and klarius threads but I browsed through the critical points there and might have a few conclusions.

1) FP location was wrong, it should have been way more up north. Some leader fishing could have helped to rush it or it was possible to still build is brick-by-brick.

2) Build around the capital should have been way less dense. It was rather critical in this game.

3) Excellent use of gifting cities, retaking them and demanding cities on AI landmasses for peace was a clue for expansion.

4) ICS in corrupt areas to maximize research during the Industrial Age was critical.

5) Early expansion and flawless running of settler factory was critical as well. This enabled war against China from a more favorable position.

6) Same turn when Flight/Advanced Flight were discovered, the corresponding units should have been ready for action.

Otherwise, we played a rather good game and finished only a handful of turns later than the winners. :)

barbu, have you uploaded the save?
For me, it still shows 1445 in the submission list.

And furthermore: I want to say: Woohhoooo...

I think we did well although one can always do better.
Becoming 3rd or so will not be a shame...

Thanks, it was fun playing with you guys!

The final save data is suppressed in the results until the game is over, in an attempt to reduce spoiler information for other teams still playing.

Well done :)

Haven't read any spoilers yet, but still I'd like to comment.
3) I'd never even come up with city-gifting. With hindsight; yes it might have worked.
4) Obviously, yes.
5) We had a 4 turn SF. I'll be reading the other spoilers for the differences.
6) Absolutely. Makes sense.

Ahh, thanks Alan for the clarification...
It seems like Team klarius has finished even earlier than Team wacken...
It surely will be interesting what they have done different.

Well, we had it but just having it does not count. One-two turns lost here and there and China had settled a couple of extra cities. Also, we had a somewhat too dense build in the core which took a couple of extra settlers. It could have been probably possible to settle closer to the horses thus greatly speeding the things up. In this setup, it was required to rush full throttle with settlers up north.

Hmm, Congrats to the team. It was fun to play with you guys. I even avoided the largest parts of the team CDZ curse.
I think we did pretty darn good. I am more than happy to take 3rd place, and the next game push for higher place.

I also enjoyed playing this.

We could have used more planning on things to do in the old chineese territory.

Gifting cities would have been a great Idea, too bad we did not think of that. The fact that we play mostly MP games has probably taken us away from those nasty exploits.

I'm satisfied with a 3rd place considering we didn't use exploits (that I remember) till very late in the game.
I'd rather be 3rd without exploits than 1st with exploits. Because an exploit-heavy victory wouldn't feel like a victory to me.

Edit: or 4th - 5th or whatever. Seems team Chunky finished faster than us as well. And other teams could fo it as well. Oh well.

They great thing is that we have the points lead. I like that.
