SGOTM8 - Cutlery

I already found it, you obviously weren't reading my turn log ;)
apparently not well enough. I'll go back & re-read it. I was just so excited about the Republic of Cutlery

4 1150 Iron is in the far NW tip of the island, beyond Greece. China have snapped up two of the three sets of dyes.

Sometimes, lots of spam can be a bad thing :D Just adding to the post count....

I wonder if other teams have noticed our culture dip from 1250BC to 1000BC and figured out why...? Of course, if other teams are going to pull off the slingshot, chances are it'll be in the same turnset. Or if anyone else had/has/will have the same choice I had at the time?

I was just looking at the culture graph and it appears as though we are the only team to be a republic. It will be interesting to see how much everyone elses drops to see about anarchy periods. So far no one has built a single cultural building other than the palace they started with.
Interesting. But since only a couple of other teams have reached the point where we switched (most of them are still around 1500-1250 BC), I'm not sure it means much.

And it's definitely too early to be building culture buildings, since we don't have any cheap ones. We'll definitely want libraries/universities eventually, and possibly even temples/cathedrals when our cities get big, but for now sharpening up the ol' pointy stick seems to be the best approach.

We'll need to go against Alex before knights too. Since he has the only source of iron. He's going to dominate once the MA come around.
Well, it would help a lot to not go after Alex before we have longbows (and trebs might be nice, too). And he might be able to build better offensive units in the MA, but he already has as good a defensive unit as he's going to get until Gunpowder.

Teams that are going slow can definately extract some information out of those graphs. By seeing our dip in culture people might be more fanatical about going for it. I hope they miss

If they think to look at the culture graph. It hadn't really occurred to me - we're not playing a culture game, so why bother? Let's hope everybody else thinks that way, too...

:mischief:

And I think the current post counts (we're almost 70 ahead of our nearest rivals) show that we're quite capable of winning the Spam Laurel, even if we just stick to talking about the game.

and me keeping quite too.

and to put some content here, i agree Alex will only get more offensive power later on, so we can delay attacking him until we have LBs and BEFORE he gets knights.
or we could just take his iron earlier? :mischief:

So SW, couple things to remind you of....

1. Switch to researching Curreny (no beakers invested in const. yet.)
2. back off on sci a couple turns to get money for embassy with Alex.

A couple of notes from the Culture graph:
- Klarius also pulled off the slingshot and revolted between 1500BC and 1250BC.
- Ivan (PtW/Vanilla - so not direct competition) - built the Great Library. They gained around 60 culture between 1250BC and 1000BC. Okay, so maybe they built 3 temples, or 2 libraries. The Big Book Bindery is favourite.

TGL? I didn't think that they could rush it via leader until 1000BC. That means that it was hand-built :wow:.

We start with Masonry, so a dedicated pyramids pre-build in the second city might do the trick. Of course, it may be two libraries, if they went straight to Literature; a valid enough course of action in Vanilla, with no slingshot available.

I also saw that Wacken is starting to build a tiny bit of culture. I wonder if they have run out of room.

<<< :mischief: >>>

submitted 1 turn shy, so we can agree on going for war now.

preturn - move 2 settlers upnorth, and a worker to work.
lower Sci to 10% as we are broke (0g in the box) construcion in 50. make 4gpt.

1- Wooden Fork rax > archer,
China is building MoMs. right after finishing the PYRAMIDS in Beijing.
movement.

2- WoodenKnifeBurg archer > archer,
find the bleedin' Alex ploped a load right on the dyes we wanted.
i think its offensive language time. but we only have 5 homies to back us up.
so i wait some more.

3- Idiot Academy worker > worker, Chcago cutlery rax > archer,
decide to get some dyes by ploping right between alex and mao. they wont like like. but we dont care.

4- WoodenSpoon settler > settler, Party Hardy archer > archer,
WoodenKnife riots on me with no warning.
hire a beaker, lower sci to 0. we need more town and money. going to plop a colony on the rocks.

5- Pearlton worker > cat, LawnGuy worker > cat,
build Idiot Color getting another dye now. > cat,
worker arrives onto rocks.
it just occured to me that in order to get an alliance with alex, WE NEED AN EMBASSY BUILT which we cant afford.

6- Wooden fork archer > archer,
Chicago cutlery about to riot, put another beakerhead.
plop a colony on the rocks. everybody is happy now.
fire beaker in WoodenKnife.
working hard on roading the dyes.

IBT they now both have monarchy.

7- movement.
our offensive force is 10 archers. will wait 2 more turns for them to get into position and declare.

IBT - wonders never cease.
Mao demands Lit, i tell him to look for a corkscrew for his thumb. he laughs it off and goes away.

8- WoodenSpoonington setter > settler, Party Hardy archer > archer, Idiot Academy worker > worker, Pseudo-Greek worker > cat,

9- Dyes are connected
lower lux a notch, but cant effectively up sci, so leave it at 0.
troops are all in place.
4 archers and 2 settlers on the left flank, 3 archers on the right with 2 more arriving very soon.
saving now, at turns' end, before i declare,.
are we to declare now? wait abit more?

a note - Mao has Pony Back Riding and hooked ponies.

Hangchow... looks like an easy take. Xinjian... expect maybe 2 spears? And don't forget to gift Republic before declaring.

What's more beneficial, gifting Republic or tading it for any available gold and techs?

Hmm. They're in Monarchy already, right? Just strip them of all their gold, so they can't rush spears.

Nice work SW. Pull all of the money (only 8G) WM, and techs you can out of MAo before declaring . Then we can use Math to get Alex in the mix.

Roster check:

eldar
Tubby Rower
soul_warrior - did pre-war check
Beorn - need those monkey's to write up a declaration of war cuz your up
Minute Man - on deck
jb1964 -

Given all the speculation over the team plots I wonder how things would turn our if all of us didn't have this opaque window to peer through?

Has anyone seen the little white bear with blood-lust? All of his axe-sharpening is going to come in handy.

It would be nice to slow the pace just a bit. It seems as thought we've been sprinting through these turns. Not that there isn't enough talk about what to do, but we do have to give those monkeys enough time with their typewriters. ;)
