SGOTM8 - Cutlery

I read the thread and noted many misspelled words and several collections of letters that certainly were trying to be words but alas, were not.

Swim season’s over and my cat continues to hurl putrid masses of ooze onto my carpet. One bore a striking resemblance to the Great Lighthouse but with fur.

The opening moves certainly seem well thought out but then this might be one of those “A room full of chimps with typewriters, given enough time, will eventually produce the works of Shakespeare” moments. I don’t mean this as a slight to the team but a keen observation.

My wife is handing me my medication and a glass of lighter fluid. I’ll ping the thread tomorrow with more erudite pontifications.

:crazyeye: :shakehead :dubious:

This is definately going in the spoiler!!!

All will be revealed on Friday evening, assuming Alan has the game out by then. If not my opening turns will have to wait until Sunday*, because I'm attending a friend's wedding on Saturday.

* Post-wedding hangover permitting, of course.

Alan has seemed to be a morning man so far, so I wouldn't doubt they'll be up by friday noon.

My vote for the spoiler writing candidate goes to jb.

Alan is pretty good about putting the files right out on midnight. I can remember only 1 or 2 times that saves weren't put up within 2-3 hours of the appropriate time.

Last night my wife spoke to me about many topics including my how much time the kids and I have been investing in gaming, which includes soccer, football, scrabble, poker, belching contests, and of course, computer games. After this conversation I was more certain than ever that we should expand at a breakneck pace to quash the barbs. And I agree that escorts are a must unless the risk is deemed low via an advanced scout or placement that provides a one turn reaction.

When do barb horses come about?? Is it after you research HBR or is it after anyone researches HBR?

I say to hold off HBR as long as possible or until we see barb horses

Barb horses appear as soon as one Civ knows HBR*.

* I have been known to be wrong in the past.

eldar, Are you going to play tonight? I'm excited to get this thing kicked off :twitch: . I could probably play the next set on Friday, but for sure Saturday.

AFAIK, barbs play med-tech, so the horses would come about at the same time the average civ knows HBR. I can't remember wher I read that though, and it might date from vanilla 1.08 or something, but 1st HBR knowing civ seems a bit early.

I'm pretty sure barb horses appear as soon as one civ knows HBR. And galleys when one learns Map Making.

The AI seems to go for HBR fairly quickly, so I doubt holding off on it for too long is going to make much difference.

Midnight server local time is well in to tomorrow for me

Besides I'd like to finish off COTM15 this evening (and I think my wife would like me to finish it too....)

I thought that the server was in England. I guess that it is somewhere in the midwest of the US. I just saw a post in the maintenance thread that said that the server time is GMT -6 (not sure if that includes daylight savings time or not)

The server is in the Mountain Time Zone, and runs off an egg timer on Thunderfall's kitchen table, I think :joke:.

GMT is not changed by daylight savings. Currenty the UK is on GMT + 1, US East Coast is on GMT - 4, US West coast is on GMT - 7.

I knew the part about GMT not changing. It's just that states like Indiana don't use daylight savings for some reason. and I didn't know where the server is located but do know.

Can we somehow tie into NORAD's computers like on War Games & play Global Thermonuclear War?

Just wait 'til the end of this game, I suspect...

GMT, Mountain Time, and the habits of Indianans(?) regardless, the game is still going be appearing in the wee hours of tomorrow morning.

Oh come on, slacker ;)

Just as a taster... (and in part to test that the save is okay and the resources still work), I moved the scout to the mountain in the west:

Surely Gyathaar wouldn't put a river to the north without some land on the other side.

BTW klarius has posted a 2950BC save @ 53 Jason points. They had about 80 fraxis points @ 3000BC. Just for reference the average [c3c] fraxis score for SGOTM 7 @ 3000BC was about 125 and SGOTM6 was ~80.
