SGOTM8 - klarius

lurker's comment: Great game! :king: It was very fun watching your spoiler and Wacken's as the game progressed.

Max research all the way is my favorite strategy in fast finish games, so I felt klarius's pain when you guys slowed down. But you had the best gift-and-retake operation of any team, which looks like enough to win.

Thank you, Dave.

I was glad we could make it an exciting fight. To (probably) win is just a sweet bonus.

Very fine play from everyone and a great game! :goodjob: I really enjoyed learning a lot from all the grandmasters on this team. And the Hydrophobic variant made a nice change - Thanks AlanH!

Megalou, a fine finish and an enjoyable report. :goodjob: I like It's Early Pension For Me.

Congratulations to the whole team.  :bounce: :woohoo: It looks as though beelining for Flight was an especially important decision.

Ronald, thanks for your good job on the spoiler.

And warmest thanks to AlanH and Gyathaar for their ingenuity and hard work. :king:

Congratz everyone! [pimp]

:hatsoff: What can I say, a great learning experience that surely bumped me up quite a bit on the civ learning curve :D ... Thanks for really really fun time. :goodjob:

So, Klarius and Co did it again.... :)
Congratulations with your win... nobody will beat that for sure... :king:

Looking forward for another race between our teams next time around.

What a finish, and a great race between yourself and Wacken. Great job. I was unsure if you could do by 1200 at the time Wacken finished (850 AD or so on your timeline) but you accelerated the pace in the last few years quite nicely. :goodjob:

IE on my computer keeps crashing when I visit your thread. See what you have done, even my computer is upset :twitch: .

Anyway, well done! It is tricky to really compare your game with ours ( apart from your flukey  finish date) as we got early workers (lucky us) but you got the slingshot, and the Chinese built the Pyramids for you I think. In the end though your gifting-extortion racket won the day. We rather laboriously destroyed the AI, but you convinced them to commit suicide instead. :goodjob:

Thanks for your gracious comments, gentlemen. But, Offa, I'm a bit wounded by the recurrence of the cheese metaphor in your observations on our strategy. ;) As I recall, on Team Offa you devoured the green Stilton as eagerly as the rest of us. :D

Thanks, Alan!

Here is an interesting piece of trivia from team Chunkey particularly for our honored team leader:
Greebley said:
1315 AD: Capture Nicomedia. Build Airport and start Transporting units over. I transport 26 units - tanks, the leader (now empty army), Infantry, settler, etc. over.
So there is apparently a difference between airfields and airports.

You should thank Gyathaar for the concept and design. He's the creative talent behind this game, I just tried to keep the books straight.

I don't think so.
Greebley isn't very clear in his turnlog ;) .
He didn't build an airport but an airfield (I looked into their save).
The leader (and settler) transport was probably by rebasing a helicopter.

Yes, it did sound sort of quick, building an airport and sending those units the same turn. It was quite interesting to get familiar with those unusual situations that normally don't occur in a fast finish games, though. Disbanding armies to get infantries  :crazyeye:

Anybody of you guys interested to stay together for sgotm9? I most probably could play.

Ronald

The final spoiler thread has been out for quite some time. Since nobody has seemed interested I thought I should volunteer to write it. It won't be funny like Cutlery's or in-depth like Wacken's but I think we are pretty much obliged to write one. If anyone feels they would like to write a fun or in-depth spoiler, speak now or forever hold your peace...

As for the next SGOTM, the odds are that I won't find time due to RL circumstances but I hope it's OK to leave it open.
