Thanks, we're teaching each other here, aren't we? I know I've learnt a lot from the sgotms  You guys rock
This is quite true. I seem to have a problem putting what I learn into action sometimes. ;) :crazyeye:

It's just a minor downer that I could have done so much better!
I feel like that after every game I play. In GOTM 47, at least my leader luck changed. Got 5 instead of 0.

Hey Capt. I haven't had a chance to play yet. If you want to pick it up I'll play after you.

The reason for not playing yet is............... I officially got the promotion and was working some over the weekend. So now I'm doing my new duties as Asst. Finance Director as well as doing my old job as Capital Projects Accountant. But we are planning on hiring a replacement for my old job so hopefully I won't be doing both jobs for a long time period.

The other reason is I'm still in shock from that butt whipping Bama put on the Gator's Saturday. Watching that game made me feel like a regular warrior being attacked by an elite cavalry.

Thanks, but it's all work and no play for me until thursday, I'm afraid. I had a new assignment put on my young and nerdy weak shoulders yesterday

I'm not sure I'm doing the right thing, but from the posts, it sounds like the following? :mischief:

Roster Changes :crazyeye:
Bluebox - UP
Capt. - On Deck
Gator
Leif
Willow
Nemesis
- Skipped

I hope this is acceptable to everyone. Perhaps we should try to pick up the pace a little. Many teams seem to be finishing and we have a ways to go yet. ;)

Congrats, Gator! I hope they find a replacement for your old position soon....

Looks like it's a busy week for everyone; I'm glad I'm not up! :)

Got it! I think everything's said. Will play tonight after I will have briefly looked over the last posts.

Good luck Bluebox!! :hammer:   :woohoo:

Thanks for the congrats. Benefits of the new position are already coming in. I got invited to the foundation's golf tourney next week.

Back to the game:

Go get 'em Bluebox.

Unless we capture the Great Library and take a huge tech elevator ride up to helicopters we will have a much slower finish then the other teams.

I hope you have fun. :D Just make sure you don't hit a hole-in-one. Between the new promotion and being the new guy, sort of, on the block, it'll cost you plenty!! :p

While I agree with your assessment, the question is what is the best way to get established on their continent? With all the islands and small cities (growing every turn), I don't think they're going to give up a city on their main continent unless they're gettin' whipped by someone. That someone won't be us since we can't get on their continent. Ideas? :mischief:

Welcome back in vB3.5! Forum upgrade seems to have been successful. [party]

I've played. I've traded. We've two more cities in ENgland, pillaged a lot of their resources. We're building banks in our homeland cities and Beijing is five turns from completing Smiths.

I thought we get nothing for our shields produced in the double core setup. Tech-wise we'd need Banking ASAP. I stopped funding troops and tried to research Chemistry in 6 turns as a trading token, but I failed one turn later. Instead I bought Theology and Education from Japan and then went on to buy Banking. This way we can at least build banks.

After that I researched Economics and set the prebuild to Smiths. Then I returned to our usual politics of cashing and rushing. :)

I also found a city on the incense hill to feed it into our trade net and reduce happiness cost.

Here's the log:

Preflight - Adjust Sci @ 60% - Research Chemistry in 6 turns. MM several Cities. Low corruption cities build cathedrals instead of CH as prebuilds for banks.

IBT - Romes learns Chemistry :(

Turn 181 - 660AD Trade with JPN: Theology = 508g + WM; Education = 563g. Sci @ 0%. Align troops around Nottingham. Renewing deal with Rome: 13gpt = Gems.

IBT - Zzzz

Turn 182 - 670AD Attack Nottingham: vKnight dies, rMusket 1hp; vHorse defeats rMusket, promoted, Nottingham razed. Incense feeded into trade net, Lux @ 10%.

IBT - Sneaking ENGSpear captures 2 Workers near Brighton, kills them ruthlessly. Sparta Marketplace -> Aqueduct.

Turn 183 - 680AD Trading with JPN: Banking = 801g + WM. Changing Athens, New York, Washington, Boston, San Francisco, Atlanta, Chicago, Philadelphia to Bank. Sci @ 70% for Economics due in 5 turns. Knight kills Spear near Brighton.

IBT - JPNGalley near Norrköping. ROMGalley near Las Vegas. Xinjian Aqueduct -> Harbor. Seattle Temple -> Bank. JPN learns PP.

Turn 184 - 690AD Founding Tacoma in the northern tundra. Founding Santa Fe near former Nottingham. Knight pillages ENGIncense near London, trade deal ENG -> ROME ends. :harhar: VKnight defeats ENGrKnight flawlessly. 4 Knights towards Newcastle. Rushing horse in Norrköping.

IBT - Shanghai Aqueduct -> Marktplace. Norköpping Horse -> Horse. Area 51 Temple -> Bank. Cincinnati Aqueduct -> Temple. JPN and Rome have traded PP and Chem.

Turn 185 - 700AD Building Gems colony in tundra. Attacking Newcastle:
vknight : rSpear - Sprear dies; vknight : rspear - vKnight dies, rSpear 1hp; vKnight : 1hpSpear - Spear dies; Newcastle captured, 4 resistors. Adjusting Detroit, Hangchow.

IBT - Thermopylae Marketplace -> Aqueduct. San Diego settler -> Worker.

Turn 186 - 710AD MM Shanghai. Cannot sell Gems to JPN.

IBT - We discover Economics. JPN has Copernicus.

Turn 187 - 720AD MM Cleveland. Changing Beijing to Smiths. Sci 0%. Founding Olympia.

--- save to disk ---

IBT - Dallas Aqueduct -> Bank. ENGGalley near Brighton.

Turn 188 730AD What to do with all those Workers? Rushing Settler in Brighton, rushing Horse in Norköpping. Moving knight stack towards London. Rush a settler in Kalmar. A worker near Las Vegas is waiting to found a colony.

IBT - Washington Bank -> Wealth. Norköpping Horse -> Horse. Houston Warrior ??? -> Aqueduct. Brighton Settler -> Musketman.

Turn 189 - 740AD
Founding Hunt Valley. Rushing Horse in Oxford. Knight pillages road N of London. Attacking London:
vKnight vs. vMusket, dies, vMusket 1hp
vKnight vs. vMusket, retreats, vMusket 2hp
vKnihght vs. vPike; dies, Pike 1hp
vKnight vs. rPike, dies, pike 1hp
vKnight vs. vMusk(3hp), dies, Mskt 1hp.

IBT- Longbow from London attacks eHorse, Horse retreats, Longbow -1hp. ENGGalley unloads Longbow near Brighton.

Turn 190 - 750AD Upgrading 3 Knights in Oxford.Rushing Horse in Norköpping. Resitance in Newcastle has ended, starving taxmen. Knight kills Longbow near Brighton flawlessly. Pillaging ENG Saltpeter, Gold hill near York. Pillaging ENGHorses. Rushing Horse in Oxford. Knight moves to ENGWool. Upgrading 3 Knights in Norköpping. New WW phase, LUX q 20%.

Notes - Do not sell Economics before Smiths is completed. Then try to get Chemistry to get on the MilTrad road.

MM Beijing after Production of Smiths - it's shields-optimized now.

I have moved the Horses knights out of Norköpping to keep them in case of flip. Being teleported to England is better than loosing them.

Keep an eye on riots. I have saved at the end of each turn to see the current wW effects.

We need irrigated grassland near Thermopylae.

WE need 2 more workers on the iron hill to be able to build a road in 1 turn.

We might want to join some workers to our cities and decrease our unit count.

Wow! I think the rest of us sort of forgot about how useful banks and Smith's would be in our strategy. Of course, a Great Library capture is moot now.

I haven't looked at the save yet, but I suspect we need to get Rome and Japan at war ASAP, and I suggest allying with Japan and going after the Roman cities on the island we share. I assume that the knights I left there are still there.

As for joining workers, I'd been sending a bunch south to the original core with the intention of joining them to ring 1 cities - not sure what Bluebox did with them....

If I have any more thoughts once I look at the save, I'll let y'all know. :)

 Good work Bluebox!!:goodjob:  :hatsoff:

I wasn't thinking about Banks at all. :wow: :shakehead

Roster:
The Capt. - UP
Gator - On Deck
Leif
Willow
Nemesis
Bluebox
- Just Played!

Just downloaded the save, so I need to have a look. But I have a feeling that Willow is making a lot of sense. We have to find a way to get onto that continent!!:crazyeye:

Yep, GLib is out of order now. Waiting for Flight would have taken too long anyway. I'd suggest build Smiths, selling Economics for Chemistry, declare on Rome, get Cavalry.:hammer: Don't know what we need for an MA with JPN. Maybe we can use Eco right for that.

Joining workers can be a problem now b/c of WW. No incentive to stop the ENG campaign. Some fresh knights are waiting in Oxford.Either do a ride over the country and take some of the smaller cities or pool our troops and get London. Capturing the capital is a hard hit for the AI; she'll think about her "peace" deals again.

Just had a good look and have some thoughts:

I think we must declare on Rome as soon as we can rush a few more Knights in Tientsin, Oakland and Macao. The most urgent reason is that the flip probability is 3.3 to 6.6 in Tientsin, 1.6 to 3.3 in Oakland and zero in Macao. I'm unsure how long its been but just in Bluebox's 10 turns, Tientsin could be 50% or better!

Once we declare on Rome, we need to have enough cash to ally Japan against them. I have no idea how much that would be?:crazyeye: But, is it better to pay GPT or cash on the barrel?:hmm: I have always disliked GPT but Klarius has shown me that it has its uses.

Norrkoping has a flip chance up to 7%. That can't last either, so perhaps we should push out and take some cities here as well. Even if we raze them, who cares way down there? The Vikings are still in the Ancient Age, no Currency. I think I remember that there are 2 Knights down there?:ninja:

Got to keep pushing England! Taking London will reduce flip percentages I think. Newcastle is 4% to 8%.

Our greatest need is a city on the Rome/Japan continent. Rome also look like the best target here as we can take Roman cities on the Tientsin Island and there is one near London. In addition, there are some smaller Roman cities way up north; Hispalis, Neapolis and Ceasaraugustus. If we can get our hands on a few of those, we might be in business!!

The next two turn sets are going to determine how quickly we're going to finish. (No pressure now!!):p If anyone has questions or comments, this is the time to get it said!:coffee:

Good luck Capt. Perhaps you should have a long consultation with Jeeves?:D

Looks good :goodjob:

If we're close to the age change we may want to keep our workers for railroads, which also increase commerce (I think).

As for getting a city on the JPN/ROM mainland, we need to get them fighting each other and then later declare on the other party as well. We should try to capture as many of their off-island cities as possible and then sue for peace hopefully gaining a front line city. We may actually have to do this a couple of times to be able to reach their main island. First peace with JPN would probably yield a city on their second island. If we can hit the ROM cities on ENG island and capture the ones on the island we share with them we might be able to get a small city from them. But that is uncertain.

I'm going to take a closer look at the save.

I'm working on a potential new plan so please don't play until we get a chance to discuss it. I'll try to post it later tonight.
