I've noticed an issue in FF.
The Sheiam require carnivals in their cities, to get the Chaos Marauder unit coming through their planar gates

But, different from base FFH, carnivals can only be built in a city that has the Masquerade corporation. This essentially means you have to found that corporation, or hope one of your neighbors does and spreads it to you, before you can get this creature.

The chaos marauder is only mildly useful, and really not worth that effort. So it's just kind of a waste. I suspect this is an oversight? would seem a silly thing to do intentionally.

I'd suggest moving it's building requirement to something more easily achievable... like a market?

I agree with your idea as Carnivals are clearly harder to build now. Maybe a Pagan Temple gives you Chaos Marauders?

I kinda like getting them from the Planar Gates in the early going as they get weapons promotions. Also as demons you can use them as cannon fodder later on against units with Fear like the Horsemen. You get a lot of them when the AC gets high.

I don't think I would count on an AI civ spreading Masquerade - I haven't seen it anyway. You have to get that Great Bard and do it yourself. Getting to Drama first seems like the best way. Great, another tech to beeline!;)

Yeaaah... this of course all really ties to carnavals taking a Great Bard(Or being the bals) to get them, is a bit... much.

Gotta agree, I don't see why the Masquerade needs to be required for carnivals...
Doesn't the Masquerade corporation itself provide benefits?

I also really dont like the Masquerade requirement for carnivals, that, combined with the loss of hidden nationality, makes capturing animals not worth much.

I like the guild as a prequisite for carnivals, but I think that the Marauder thing was just an oversight.

I don't much like the requirement... as is, there's a great heaping pile of mechanics balanced atop the Carnival, so tying it to a corporation renders a lot of that useless to most.

Which is no fun.

The other problem is without carnivals the earliest you can start making artist specialists so you can get a great artist is drama. Thats quite a side path for most civilizations.

Exactly. Making Carnivals require a Great Bard is a double-whammy since Carnivals are what you'd normally use to GET a Great Bard.

Suggestion:

Put carnivals back to how they were, and allow the masquerade guild to unlock an upgraded version for them or something. For example:

Circus
Requires carnival
+15% culture
+2 happiness

Or something.

See the changelog for the new patch f.

No more Masquerade required for Carnivals!:D
