As you want, I wouldn't want to steal turns because I had problems with my connection... but if you want me to spice the save a bit before you play (for added challenge), feel free to move me ;) :lol:
 
Good point about march... but would you skip shock entirely for that? I spent some thoughts on promos and thought about having a mix of combat only/shock combat and few withdrawal units to knock down top defenders...

Why would you tech chemistry before communism? I'd rather boost WSs sooner and get rid of maintenance...

Shock (melee)?! :) That's about the last promotion I would pick. Or did you mean Pinch (gunpowder)? Note that Combat promotions are relatively much better when the attacker has a bigger base strength than the defender. For example against a Longbow Combat and Cover give the same bonus for Cossacks.

I agree if you meant Pinch, most C3->March, some Combat Pinch to spearhead after flankers (if we run into Muskets/Grens or the like) and some flankers.

Thinking now I think I'd go Chem->Astro->Scimet->Communism. Scimet gets a boost from having both Astro and Chem, and Astro gives us a boost in trade as well to reach those last few big techs. Building boats isn't that much of a priority but the trades and contact are nice. Could swap Astro and Chem as well, no strong feelings about that, then my thinking would exactly match shyuhes :) I do think we should get both before Scimet, both have a significant effect while giving a significant tech discount.

As for civics, I still think it's a no-brainer to go Slavery and Theo here with the GA. Since we're slaving, we won't need quite as much happiness. NSR culture I don't see really having any effect on the game :p

And as for diplo, IMO it's almost completely useless for us already (really, the only useful thing I can think of is OB with the islanders and that we're guaranteed to get with fair trade), EXCEPT with Churchill as we have a chance to peacevassal him once we get a bit more population and possibly power. So don't piss him off. :p

Agree with Silu - I don't think we need shock. Maybe 1 or 2 stack defenders but I'd go mostly combat--march. We should also look for our healer chariot (I think I saw one) and move him towards the frontline in anticipation of our first healer GG. I would even consider a second healer GG so that we can open a second front sooner, rather than settling the GG's.
 
The healer chariot might be on a scout tour in the Chinese heartlands :lol: Yeah, 2 medics is probably the right choice before settling. Settling got some FPS points and I think that's why I proposed that. :p

I was talking about shock as the strongest defenders are pikes but you're right ofc, it's rubbish...

One more thing you guys didn't comment on was OB with gandhi for quicker war.... it speeds up conquest of chinese cities and will diminish resistance but will mean diplo -ves with churchill IIRC. Go ahead anyway?
 
The OB is an almost no-existent diplo penalty (if we don't need to refuse closing them), so go for it. We should only need it for ~2 turns after which we can close them if Church asks.

A couple of Shock dudes will actually help Cuirassiers somewhat if you run into Pikes, true... I was somehow already thinking about Cossacks, for them Combat is preferable almost always against crap base str units.

I'm fine with Astro first. Be sure to take the Compass trade. :)
 
I don't think Churchill can ask us to close borders during the 10 turn window. We just have to remember to close the borders after 10 turns are up to avoid the risk of diplo demerits. Don't want to end up at war with Gandhi and him refusing to talk to us for closing borders by a rival's demand.

I think chemistry first is better than astro since it improves our workshops. Not too hung up about it though.
 
Stupid question (:D): how do I remove the "dotmap layer" in BUG? There are just to many things displayed when I open the save :lol:

edit: though I've seen enough to say this is already won :lol: no AI has gunpowder even :goodjob: team!
 
Well, we're starting the part of the game that I wanted to work on the most - efficient conquest :) Especially since we'll need boats for sure.
 
Deinstalling BUG won't help since we're forced to play BUFFY :)

I hate those dotmap layers, I never keep them on. It just messes with my city-o-vision instead of helping :p

OK, I agree with almost everything that has been said since Silu's set...
except maybe the civics during GA (I would do it more conservative, staying in caste seeing as the AIs are hopeless. might as well have a nice score :D)... theo... why not? I hardly see that doing any differences (cuirrassiers/cossacks against LBs)

I also would go chemistry before astro as teching faster won't bring the end of this game faster... but perhaps Mysty has something in mind?

... thankfully, no. Mao suicided 2 chokos in the IBT which convinces him of the hopelessness of his resistance so he cracks. I decide to accept his cap now as 1) we must advance on gandhi ASAP 2) I want to avoid unnecessary casualties 3) shanghai would be our only city that might be stuck in revolts and 4) it will kinda help mao's teching (for us)... :p

Power has steadily been increasing ever since we started *plop*-ing out cuirassiers ;) but you can also see what rifling did to gandhi's power in just one turn...


Now on to the military overview...

I prepared 3 stacks to attack 3 cities simultaneously. Starting with gandhi's SOD:

As you can see he has an ok mixed stack with plenty of siege which is good for us thanks to flanking. There are 32 units total while 12 are siege, it will take a few turns to take this city down. I'm not sure our 15 cuirassiers suffice since defences are 80% and the city is on a hill (I marked all hillside cities with a "h"). However it will prevent gandhi from using his SOD on us but will have to use it for defence...

Eastern stack. Not much to say, shouldn't be too hard.

Western stack. I stationned it in chinese land to save gold. Should suffice. Gandhi just built the islam shrine a turn ago or so...

Generally, we can't capture any city on the very first turn due to gandhi's usual great cultural pressure. This means gandhi has time for more rifleman-upgrades...

On the domestic side, we have our GA ready to be kicked off:

So now... on to the discussion...

  • Civics. We seem to be agreed on theo/slavery. Right?
  • DOW. Should we declare now and hope to catch gandhi off-guard (kinda) or delay it until we have rifling as well as sufficient funds to upgrade our cuirassiers to cossacks? I'm not sure on this... Waiting will greatly increase gandhi's army of rifleman, otoh we get better units... I'm not sure at all what's better. I think I'd just attack now, with cuirassiers, and sell some tech to gandhi to reduce the amount of money he has available for upgrades and upgrade our cuirassiers during the war.
  • Techpath. I set mao to tech astro for us. Since we'll get chemistry from churchill in time, next tech on our list would be sci meth. I'm not sure we can get astro from mao, but it would be very nice if we can... since we'll turn off research for a while for the upgrades.
