Im seeking advice about settling this spot.

The only good thing about this site is the silver, witch I already have elsewhere. Atleast I can trade it away. Besides that it is a worthless piece of land. It will probably only drag my economy down. The thing is that it is the last unsettles piece of land on my continent. I own all the rest of my continent very soon. I fear that if I dont settle it, someone else will and I dont want the AI to have a base on my continent it can launch an attack from.
If I should settle there I think it is best to settle right on the silver because theres not food enough to be able to work the silvermine anyway without stagnating the city.

What would you do?

Forget it.
Let the AI settle the site,
its economy will slow down a bit.
It will be a small city and thus with a small garnison.

The Ai sucks at preparing war. nothing will come from that corner.

Allright. I will leave the worthless piece of land for the AI to settle. Thanks for the advice guys :)

Let the AI settle there, then take HIS city if u want.

you could chop a lighthouse there and eventually it would be worth it. if you want domination victory every little bit helps. I would build a lighthouse then just build commerce and it should more than break even - it's not even that far from your capital!

it doesn't appear you are doing that well in this game, is that right? I would definitely settle the city. at the very least, I could see a situation where you desperately might want to end a war with someone, and you could give this city to them in the deal. it would then be a drag on their economy and might culturally flip back to you anyway.

8 coastal tiles + a lighthouse + financial = 24 commerce. At 50% science it's 12 beakers and 12 gold per turn, even with no multiplier buildings and without working the silver mine to stagnate at max pop.

Of course, it'll take awhile to get there, but why not? It's certainly not going to hurt your empire once it has grown a little bit - and it'll prevent the AI from having an annoying crap city on your continent.

The AI doesn't understand the meaning of an invasion toe-hold city, so the only real reason to do it is because a) it will add a net positive to your economy in time, and b) there is a satisfying feeling to having the whole continent to yourself - that feeling really has no strategic value, but part of playing a game is enjoying it, right? =)

Well, I left the spot alone. Now Wang Kon settled there on the spot. Thats not so bad because I plan on conquering Wang Kons empire. He is the weakest. I think I should have settled there because of the strategic value og having all the continent to myself.

Youre right. Im not doing so good in some ways. Im behind in techs because I have not had a trading partner until now. I have ben at war with Ghandi, my onliest other civ on my continent, so Im his worst enemy an thus he wont trade with me. Now he is my vassal. Im also behind in power but that is about to be correctet. I can now build grenadiers in my HE/mil. academy city.

Its not a total loss yet. I have the most land and most hammer production. If I can catch up in techs I think I will be able to take out Wang Kon an eventual win conq/dom.

Im running Representaion/Mercantalism with the pyramids. Have the uni. of sankore. Have two holy shrines.

your next move really depends on a) the victory screen (to see if domination is key) and b) the power graph. Space is doable at this point and as an added bonus if you are at peace you can trade with the people on the other continent.

For domination you would probably have to invade the other continent. If you have poor relations diplomacy-wise then I would recommend invading and winning by domination (watch for defensive pacts though!!!).

If you have good relations then I would just go space race. For me financial is always a space race (or cultural) trait.
