Should plurality decisons be binding?

Maybe the problem isn't how we count the votes but in how the people make the polls. But that's a different can of worms. I think a plurality wins, unless the poll clearly states otherwise. (ie, a lot of our naming polls stated there would be second polls unless there was a majority)

Well, what kind of decisions should be held as binding? How are we to determine this? Should the official be given complete freedom to make the decisions he/she sees fit?

These are the questions I have for you donsig.

My opinion is anything that is polled and gets a majority of the votes in the poll should be binding. It's a nice simple way to address the issue. Sure, there are polls where binding is meaningless. In a poll about a person's favorite color then binding is meaningless. The great part is we don't even have to worry about polls where binding is meaningless because, well, binding is meaningless for those polls  Any poll that pertains to [civ4] or DG gameplay are the ones I'm talking about. These have been referred to elsewhere as actionable polls. I think we have also talked about the trouble with explicitly defining such polls but we are all confident we will know one when we see it.

My opinion is that officials and DPs should be allowed to make any decision they see fit when there is no majority decision made via a forum poll. Also nice and simple. While this does give officials tremendous leeway in the absence of a majority decision we should remember that officials are still bound by the politics of their situation, etc. If they want to be re-elected (or not drummed out of the DG community) they will not go off like a loose cannon.

But up to know you only have debated what defines a majority. Is a majority >50% or the most votes?

Hey, I know! I even posted a link to the definition of plurality/majority for everyone to read. I was being sarcastic, sorry if I harmed anyone.
