But you wouldn't. You would be the best of the couple of thousands who for whatever crazy reason decided that that is what they want to dedicate their lives to.

Now videogames on the other hand, million of people play, so people can relate to it. Even people who don't see it as sport express this view on computer games forums as Bigfoot demonstrate ;). And as I mentioned earlier it would be in the spirit of the Olympics, amateurs and all that.

But do millions of people play the same game? And have millions of people decided to dedicate their lives to video games?

Also if you're a damn good long jumper, you will likely at some phase of your life do long jumping.

:rotfl: Thats... awesome? Can't believe it's been around in the Olympics so long too. Watching must be riveting.

Actually it's one of the most demanding sports there are. Go walk yourself 50 kilometres, and do it FAST.

I might be conservative on that issue, but to me the Olympics are about physical sports, not intellectual sports. So I am very much against bridge making it to the Olympics, and also against video games.

But I am very much for a worldwide professional video gaming league.

Yes. More or less :).

In athletics classes in school, maybe. Otherwise I think not.

Anyway, I'm not really proposing adding videogames to the olympics. I just took this oppurtunity to point out the (I think) ridiculousness that's going on in sports nowadays. Lots of these should be phased out, like pole-climbing was, new ones should be added. Tell professional athletes to get off the drugs and get real jobs and turn the olympics back to the easy-going amateur games they were supposed to be.

All olympics sports are somehow derived from disciples used at ancient warfare, like spear throwing or marathon.
As warfare evolves, maybe it needs to be accomodated to more recent forms of warfare. The guy blowing cars from his Predator drone basically plays his own, utmost violent game.

How about removing the discuss in exchange for ultimate frisbee?

How is there anything about table tennis that renders it any less of a sport than say, non-table tennis?

Table tennis is a real sport with large followings played in large stadiums. It was somewhat larger in the eighties, but no one can say it's not a legitimate sport. It's surely more Olympic-worthy than 80% of the things they do at the Olympics (like hurdles).

As for video games? Well, they'd be fun. I'd watch. And the Olympics are about fun, right? People can't relate to pole vaulters or freestyle divers the way they can relate to gamers.

That sounds exactly like the WWE. I don't think that should be in the olympics. Grecco-Roman style is fine though. (and real)

Well yeah. But WWE isn't a sport because it's not competitive. It's the equivalent of theater.

Video Games is not a sport!

I agree that watching it can't be that fun but different people are entertained by different things.
But before you laugh at the competition, try it for yourself. Power/Race-walk say 5km maybe 10km, once you get that hip rolling you'll be surprised how fast your legs get tierd.

Video Games are the next big thing.

For really lazy, butt-stuck-in-a-chair, pizza eating, beer belly lonely single virgins....Buts its a different story in Asia though...

I love video games as much as the next guy but video games belong in the Olympic games as much as Poker or Fishing.

NOT AT ALL.
