SilliNES3: The Search for Imago

This is the Darkest World.

Europe has long put away the most evil and deviant magical practices in it's past in the pursuit of more reliable and efficient technologies. However, not all the native peoples they've discovered shared their self-righteous moral system. For every European colony that succeeded, another failed at the hands of magically empowered natives, whose magic gave them an even footing with the Europeans (any magical advantage is usually matched by a different technological advantage, and vice versa).

Worldwide decolonization mostly occurred during the late 1800s and early 1900s as various mother countries were invaded, conquered, or fell into revolution. Now, throughout the non European world, the now independent colonies struggle to survive next to developed native states whose power rival those in the European heartland.

Meanwhile, Socialism has taken a deeper root than IRL. Dozens of Socialist countries exist throughout the world. Even the traditionally united Comintern is divided between the Democratic Socialists and the Dictatorial Communists.

In a more general sense, this world is more liberal than ours, due in large part to magic. Most states have banned sacrificial sacrifices of unwilling human beings, and many have banned blood and spiritual sacrifices as well. In doing so, most admitted that all humans have at least the rights to their own life (human sacrifice), liberty (blood sacrifice), and pursuit of happiness (spiritual sacrifice.) Or whatever list of rights we're going with.

It is now 1950, and ideologies born in the 1800's now face their second, or even third generation of implementation. The march of both Technology and Magic have revealed a whole new dimension of power: all across the world, theorists attempt to unlock the secrets to produce Weapons of Mass Destruction. While Europe stabilizes from its latest series of wars and revolutions, European Colonies and Native Powers alike begin to gear up for the next, seemingly inevitable, series of intrigue and war.

This is truly the Darkest World.

/End Narration

Basically most of Europe is filled out with PC's and very good NPC's. There are scattering of isolated PC's throughout the world, divided evenly between European Colonizers and Native Powers. If you have a specific area you are interested in, please ask. The Update Negatives give a good idea where the PC's are.

Having trouble keeping track of where everything is without a map, but- I can start in China, right?

EDIT: If so, my character concept is going to be the Second Han Empire. I will postulate that the Taiping Rebellion suceed but collapse under their own weight- after civil war, ultimately a new empire arises calling itself Han to harken back to the old days. The state has modernised quite a bit but is still a Constitutional Monarchy.

Republic of Tamil Nadu/mrrandomplayer
Government: Capitalist Democracy
ASP: 10
SpecTech: Economy(15), Faster Ship/Plane Engines(5)
Army: 60
Navy: 45
Air Force: 45
Unique Unit: Lightning Cruiser. Much faster than regular cruisers. They come in small groups.
Need I say more?

Specify something instead of just Economy for your tech would be nice but not required. You're all good.

Having trouble keeping track of where everything is without a map, but- I can start in China, right?

Well, I can't really make a REAL map until all the apps in.

China is 100% open. Nearest PCs are in India and Alaska.

EDIT: REMINDER TO ALL PLAYER APPLICATIONS ARE DUE WHEN I WAKE UP TOMORROW MORNING.
Nwag gets a bye because lateness and because China is pretty isolated atm.

I'll start there. See edit for character concept.

Second Han Empire/ Neverwonagame3
Government: Imperial Monarchy
ASP: 10
SpecTech: Cut-Price Troop Raising(20), Efficient Occupation(10)
Army: 50 Brigades
Navy: 25 Squadrons
Air Force: 25 Wings
Unique Unit: Flying Tigers (3 Sections per 1 ASP)
Specialists in taking control of the air.

Background: The Taiping Rebellion suceeded, but collapsed on itself after the death of its leader. Warlord Liu Heng ultimately won the resulting civil war, establishing a new Han Empire. The country has modernised considerably in practice, but superficially retains the old ways.

History: Will decline for now.
Neighbor Suggestions: I'll leave this to you
Capital: Nanjing
Core Lands: Ethnic Han Chinese lands- modern China except for Tibet, Outer Mongolia, Turkestan, and Manchuria
Reach Lands: Other lands in the modern Republic of China, Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan, and Mongolia
Colonies: None to start with

Looks good.

You have 10 ASP unspent.

I'd prefer if the Elite Dogfighting Squad be renamed something more unique, but that's fine. Maybe Flying Tigers? Anyway, they would be good due to training, not technology.

I would prefer 3 Sections vs 1 Wing.

Cut-Price Troop Raising won't directly affect conscription price. However, I will give you additional troops when you conscript. In addition, if you make a conscription-esque UU, this tech will be considered. Finally, since you put 20 ASP in it, the cut pricing would also reduce the economic burdens of mobilization. BTW you will get most of your Reach lands as of now.

I'll make a quick edit then.

A couple of things:

Inner Mongolia is the one that is OTL controlled by the PRC.

You might wanna put Turkestan with Tibet, Inner Mongolia, and Manchuria [aw yeah!].

:)

Oh and Terrance, I'm finishing sketching up the Stahlstromwachen.

I suppose.

Updated the form with new Unique Units, here are some key parts about said units:

Iron Marines: One of the classics, they men fight for THE EMPRA the Ostrian Union with a manner beyond others, hardened and trained to fighting anything and everything when needed, from Russian Necros to Giant spiders, to Dragonborns and Dragon-riding Mongolians, they even fought a God of Ice and Evil. They are the finest fighting force around, who are only beaten by Imperial Guardmen from Warhammer 40k... What? They ain't Space Marines, but they are better than No Marines! They gain a combat bonus relative to the level of Deep Strike.

Germanic Infantry: If the Iron Marines are relevantly equal to the Space Marines, then the Germanic Infantry are relevantly equal to the Stormtroopers of the Star Wars universe. While they are not bad to say at the least, they are weaker when going up against a force of Quality than a force of Quantity. This means that while it is able to curl-stomp forces of equal or greater size, any forces smaller than the size of a Regiments will be the one curl-stomping them. Apart from that, Germanic Infantry are able to sustain themselves without much logistics, giving them another boon.

Schaupanzer: Who likes tanks and gliders? The men driving these ones are, and they should be. While limited in movement on the ground, they are able to glide into combat when Deep Striked, allowing them to act as flying bricks with guns during their entrance into battle. Even if they do appear silly, they are nothing to be joked about, at the least they are not angry barrels...

Zurück-Rakete: One of the earlier attempts of a Militarized Satellite, these things are little more than oversized and glorified unmanned drones. While they are unable to fly close enough to the ground to supply decent Air-support, they are able to deploy multiple, smaller rockets over the target, showering the enemy with either big bangs or many mooks before heading back to base. Outside of military Station, however, they must be docked in the Führer-Raumschiff, and only it can hold so many Return-Rockets.

Going to edit a story into this post, and requesting time until the update.

OOC: Got writer's block, so decided to simply clarify the nature of the hypothetical China I envision. I have a bad feeling I'm missing something realism-wise, and I'd be harder on myself if not for the nature of the NES.

Remnants of Reaction in Second Han Empire
-The family structure remains in place. Fathers have legal authority over their wives and children (and in the case of the upper classes concubines). Foot-binding has been abolished, however, and many women work jobs to help support the family.
-Most titles are, ironically, based on Qing titles of the old reigme. Their functions, however, have drastically changed in practice and new titles have ocassionally been created.
-There is no formal Constitution. All authority still answers to the Emperor.
-China is still considered supreme in the world. The existence of other states not paying tribute to the Throne is something to be tolerated until they can be one day subdued. To this end, there is no formal Embassy system in the capital- the Embassies are far from it.
-The new China is economically protectionist in it's policies, enforcing taxes on outside trade.

This is not to say changes have not taken place. Ancient superstitions have been (formally) abolished, and their role in society suppressed- just as Christianity and Islam reformed to reject superstitions, so has the Chinese syncretic faith. Nationalism plays a major role in the Second Han. Science and technology have been adopted from the West. However, the state is still highly conservative thanks to holding its own against the barbarians.

Here's progress on the map.

Good news: I've done alot!

Bad news: I've done the easy parts! Oh no!!! The other borders I'm going to have to research and/or free draw.

I've finished sketching out most of the NPC's by now and I need to stat them up.

Still considering whether to handle occupied land as colonies/territories, or direct ASP bonus. Of course, this also has to do with the future of said occupied land and other details, but I'm concerned more about the general thought atm (as well as for starting lands.)

As long as my territory stays to what's already been defined, I'm fine with that (for what it's worth). We can even coordinate on it a bit.
