my classement :

Sim City 1 > SC3000 > SCS > SC2000 > SC4

I wish I had Sim City 2000. Easy to make screenshots there in the SCURK (Sim City Urban Renewal Kit) which then I can use for DYOS. Plus, Launch Arcologies are cool!

I play Sim City 4. I love building big cities and stuff. I got a couple of buildings though to solve my micromanagement problems. A city-wide police station, city-wide fire station, massive hospital that's cheap, massive school that's cheap (but only educates children, but educates them really good) and that's about it. I micromanage with the traffic and growth stuff, but money isn't an issue. I can make a fair amount of cash through tolls

What I really want for the game is an Arcology. However it must meet these requirements:

Holds at least half a million MIDDLE CLASS people (I can't stand those rich snobs who can't walk across a road without getting getting stuck in traffic and fired. I don't like poor people either. Lazy guys! Get a job you!)

Be really big and expensive (I can afford it)

Has to be very tall (Taller than the CN Tower or maybe as tall, I dunno, how tall can it be?)

Perhaps look like a Launch Arcology

Not create much crime. However, it should take up a lot of power and water, but not overkill on it.

Produces little to no pollution

So far, I haven't found any Arcologies for Sim City 4. I saw one for Industry, but that was stupid... only 500 jobs. Humph!
Great Region needs an arcology and I can't find it on the Sim City 4 website's building exchange!
I could build one, but I can't find a suitable building to use and modify as it does not give me the stuff I want to modify. Plus, I'm terrible at GMAX as I dunno how to use it and I dunno how to raise an object in the lot editor (how did those helicopters for the military get at that height on the platform?)

Can you help me?

Also, I have 5 modified city-wide police stations with a big effectiveness that is only an avenue across from a Small International Airport. However, the place is still an orange zone of crime! How is this possible and how can I fix it when i have all ordinances except for curfew activated!?

My classing of the games:

Sim City 4 is better than Sim City 2000 which is better than Sim City 3000 which is better than Sim City (because i have no played it or I did on my dad's PDA and I ruined his city with too many police stations!)

I haven't played Sim City Societies and I don't think I want to!

I have Simcity2K: Special Edition, its fine.
Simcity 3000 is great if you have a sub-par system.
Simcity 4 is great, but you seriously need to get a new computer if yours is around 5 years old.
Simcity Societies is good if you haven't ever played, easy to grasp, but not much replay value over time.

If you're hardcore, go for Simcity 4 or 2K.
Newbie: Simcity Societies
Casual: Simcity 3000

I've never actually played the original.

SC4 rush hour + NAM FTW.
Go over at Simtropolis to see what people can do with this. It blew my mind away.
But in truth, you need quite a good computer to run it properly (lots of RAM).

My first thought was 'Nam' and the choppers not being friendly.

I should have explained.
I couldn't imagine playing SC4 without the NAM now. I guess this says a lot about modders vs. game studios.

Depends on how good you are. If you get 4 make sure you get rush hour with it or its ridiculously hard. 3000 is more of what you're going to be used to, more "true to the series"
What ever you do, do NOT get societies, worst game EVER(well aside from like airport tycoon lol...)

If SC4 was a little more stable on my system I'd rate it highest- although I miss the fact that you couldn't create random fires in your cities if the fire coverage was too good- it all had to be Robots, and I dunno Earthquakes, and such.

I remember how excited I was about SC3000 when it first came out, because for once the GRASS was GREEN!!!

In SC4, the grass can be dirt if the terrain is high. Or snow during December 25th

Still, anyone want to build the Arcology? I want it to look big and cool (perhaps 25x25 tiles. If I can't find enough land in Huge City Parkland, I'll demolish my way through and build around it!)

The reward for doing so is honour and perhaps a lot of people will like you

It really depends what you are looking for. My ex roomate loved 2k but hated 3k and 4 because it was "too complicated," but it is that intricacy that I love about sim city 4. SC4 is also the strongest in terms of modded content and would work best if you are into the city story telling that many people partake in.

I hold SC2K and SC4 at about the same level, 2K for its (comparative) simplicity and 4 for its wide array of tools.

Perhaps look like a Launch Arcology

Hmm. Personally, I always liked the Forest Arcologies best in terms of appearance. They looked really serene and oddly pastoral for space age technology.

Actually, the industrial arcologies looked pretty good too, but they of course generated lots of pollution. No good.

I don't care about pollution. I have made structures which can get rid of air pollution from factories and stuff...
I can't get rid of traffic pollution though and elevated rails and monorails produce pollution too

But if the arcology can't look like a Launch one, make it look like a Forest Arcology. I don't really care! I want a large building that middle class people can crowd and it has to be big (but not too big like map big. 25x25 squares sounds big enough, perhaps less)

Plymouth Arcologies were also good. I like Launch Arcologies the most though

I looked at the stuff on Simtropolis (all the Guest stuff, if there's a difference)

No Arcologies there

EDIT: Signed up and had a look around using search. Something is going on there :)

I did find a mod that reduced crime significantly. Now my airport in Huge City is a light, almost faded away yellow in crime... or was it so faded away there is no crime there?

So in the Lot Editor, how do you raise the height of something? I can design an arcology now using a blank R $$ lot, but I can't figure out how to increase height

EDIT: Never mind, I found it
