Hi guys,

I've just started playing my first game of BTS.
I don't like espionage, however.

I heard there is a way to switch off espionage...
How do you do this?

(i checked in custom game options and didn't see it)

Thanks
Sreyas

just be aware that its broken (the no espionage part) ... all espionage is remade into Culture which the game otherwise aren't balanced for :P

Yeah, I guess the only good way of turning off Espionage is to play the vanilla game...

^^You can play Warlords as well. It has a lot more units and a few more techs than vanilla did. However, you also miss out on Corporations, the new techs in BTS (which balanced it out IMO), a few gameplay tweeks that you may have grown accustomed to, and some other stuff. EP isn't so bad once you get a handle on how to utilize it.

Or if you're happy playing a mod, try End of Espionage Mod (for BtS 3.19). :)

Basically it is BtS exactly the way it should be if you choose No Espionage. In other words, espionage points are not turned into culture, great wonders do not give great spy points, spy specialists are not available (from things like jails, courthouses etc.), buildings do not generate :espionage: points etc.

It's a very simple mod actually. Note that by using the mod it is assumed you will enable the "No Espionage" option from the Custom Game screen. Otherwise there's no point to using it.

AWESOME! I've always wondered if there was a mod for this.

Hey, PoM, does this switch the "spy" back to the way it was in Warlords? Or is there no way to see what your enemy's cities are like without open borders?

I think the answer to you first question is no, and to your second question yes.
I'm not 100% sure what you mean though. In Warlords, was it only possible to send spies into rival territory when you had open borders?

Nah. I guess my questions were a bit confusing.

In Warlords, spies spent gold to perform their limited abilities. Religion spread allowed viewing of enemy cities and land. Is it like that again with the End of Espionage mod?

Religion does not allow vision into cities in EoE mod. This is discussed a little, or at least mentioned by me, in the thread IIRC.
In EoE, spies can't spend gold to perform abilities. That's something I or another modder could look into though. Can you post a comment in the thread?
